Pollux Lighting Pollux has been in business since 2000 selling into the European & Asian markets extensive knowledge of the HID business to grow they need a North American presence Pollux has been in business since 2000, selling into the European & Asian markets until last year. They have extensive knowledge of the HID business & they realize that to grow they need a North American presence. That brings us very quickly up to today! 3

Brief History ESAPCO/Farmtek is one of the first North American clients increased our North American customer base working on several other opportunities China - reputation for years of supplying cheap & copied products products have improved drastically in quality, design & pricing lighting fixtures being produced in over 1000 lighting plants throughout China ESAPCO/Farmtek is one of the first North American clients we secured. We have increased our North American customer base & we are working on several other opportunities at this time. We believe that we have performed satisfactorily for the ESAPCO/Farmtek organization & we intend to continue doing so for a long time. China, as you all know, had a reputation for years of supplying cheap & copied products. This reputation was correct & they gained market share. Over the last years their products have improved drastically in quality, design & pricing with lighting fixtures being produced in over 1000 lighting plants throughout China. 4

BRIEF HISTORY to do business in North America there are approvals that must be received & maintained such as UL/CUL Pollux products carry this approval We can also obtain approvals, if necessary, on proprietary products Chinese made products must meet the same criteria that are required of North American manufacturers Pollux is also an ISO certified manufacturer Of course to do business in North America there are approvals that must be received & maintained such as UL/CUL. Pollux products carry this approval &we are adding new products, which will receive their approvals before we market them here. We can also obtain approvals, if necessary, on proprietary products we produce for our customers as UL maintains an office in China. These approvals mean that Chinese made products must meet the same criteria that are required of North American manufacturers. Pollux is also an ISO certified manufacturer, which assures our customers that we meet testing, reporting & all other criteria necessary to receive this certification. This gives you a little history about Pollux, the Chinese lighting industry & myself & I d be glad to answer any questions you have in this regard after this presentation. I have been asked to give you some information on Ballast, Lamps, Fixtures and Work Lights as supplied to ESAPCO/FARMTEK. So here we go!!! 5

What are they? Where are they used? What types are there? What is the construction? What types run what lamps? What is Ballast life? Ballast protection & any other issues. 6

BALLASTS - Construction WHAT ARE THEY: ballasts are transformers! You ve all seen large metal cases on Hydro poles in your hometown area & these are large ballasts. They convert the current from the power source & control it s output to the lamps or lines. The names ballast, transformers & coil & cores are used in the lighting industry but all refer to the major electrical component of any HID (high intensity discharge) lighting fixture WHAT ARE THEY: ballasts are transformers! The names ballast, transformers & coil & cores are used in the lighting industry but all refer to the major electrical component of any HID (high intensity discharge) lighting fixture. 7

BALLASTS - Construction WHAT ARE THEY: predominantly copper wire windings incorporated into a set of laminations, stamped from electrical steel welded into a specific shape vacuum impregnated with a varnish to reduce noise and to help dissipate the heat it is matched, where necessary, to a rated capacitor and/or a starter WHAT IS A BALLASTS CONSTRUCTION: ballasts have common elements in their construction regardless of the type of ballast. Ballasts all use predetermined quantities of, predominately cooper, magnet wire with a specific gauge and the number of windings being determined by the wattage, voltage and type of lamp to be driven. These windings are incorporated into a set of laminations, stamped from electrical steel, in certain configuration such as E&I, U I or TL that are accumulated in a predetermined number of sets, again dependent on the wattage, voltage and type of ballast being made, and are welded into a specific shape. Once the unit is welded it is vacuum impregnated with a varnish that flows between all the coil windings and the steel laminations to reduce noise and to help dissipate the heat generated when the ballast is running. Once the ballast is impregnated it is matched, where necessary, to a rated capacitor and/or a starter. 8

BALLASTS - Usage WHERE ARE THEY USED: ballasts are used to run all fluorescent & HID lighting fixtures fluorescent ballasts mounted in the fixture itself HID units can be mounted inside the fixture, integral, in a separate ballast enclosure or remote mounted HI-Bay fixtures have the ballast in a separate ballast box or housing wall mount or floodlight units the ballast is usually mounted in the fixture and thus integral to the unit WHERE ARE THEY USED: ballasts are used to run all fluorescent & HID lighting fixtures. In the case of fluorescent ballasts they must be mounted in the fixture itself, as there is a necessity to be close to the lamps. In the case of HID units they can be mounted inside the fixture, Integral, in a separate ballast enclosure attached to the fixture or they can be remotely mounted away from the fixture. Typical HI-Bay fixtures have the ballast in a separate ballast box or housing with the socket and reflector mounted to that box. In some applications of Hi-Bay installations the ballast are remotely mounted from the fixtures at ground level or in protected rooms so that ease of maintenance or noise factors are a consideration. In Wall Mount or Floodlight units the ballast is usually mounted in the fixture and thus integral to the unit. Ballparks are an example of sites where outdoor fixtures have remote mounted ballast & this is primarily for maintenance purposes. 9

BALLASTS - Types WHAT TYPE OF BALLAST ARE THERE: Fluorescent ballasts long rectangular units - light 1 or 2 lamps 1, 2, 4 or 8 High Intensity Discharge (HID) ballasts Mercury Vapor, MV-the oldest of the HID Metal Halide/ Metalarc, MH-second generation of HID lamps High Pressure Sodium, HPS- the next in the line of HID lamps. WHAT TYPE OF BALLAST ARE THERE: there are numerous types of ballasts as they pertain to lighting. There are Fluorescent ballasts, Fluorescent dimming ballast, HID ballast & HID dimming ballast. Fluorescent ballasts are usually long rectangular units that are made to control current to fluorescent lamps. These ballasts are made to light 1 or 2 lamps 1, 2, 4 or 8 in length in either single or multiple lamp configurations. Fluorescent ballasts are usually mounted in the fixture and are co-coordinated to the number of lamps, wattage of lamps, lamp length and voltage of the lamps. These ballasts are potted in a pitch formulation in the can that allows for heat dissipation and to quiet the noise from the ballast. You will all have heard the hum from fluorescent ballast and that noise is usually from the vibration of the ballast in the metal fixture housing. High Intensity Discharge (HID) ballasts are designed to operate a specific type of lamp, as are fluorescent ballast. These types of lamps are the ones previously mentioned: Mercury Vapor, MV-the oldest of the HID family of lamps. Still used today but in very limited applications Metal Halide/ Metalarc, MH-second generation of HID lamps that operate indoor or outdoor as standard operating lamps or as dimming lamps and give off a white light appearance and High Pressure Sodium, HPS- the next in the line of HID lamps. Lamps are run as standard operating or dimming lamps and give off a yellow light. Low Pressure Sodium, LPS- are the newest of the HID lamps but are not used very much due to a limited number of fixtures capable of mounting the lamps and ballasts. 10

BALLASTS - Types High Intensity Discharge (HID) ballasts Low Pressure Sodium, LPS- are the newest of the HID Metal Halide ballasts can run both MH & MV lamps dimming ballasts can be manually or motion sensor dimmed electronic ballasts are the next generation of lighting ballasts Low Pressure Sodium, LPS- are the newest of the HID lamps but are not used very much due to a limited number of fixtures capable of mounting the lamps and ballasts. Metal Halide ballasts can run both MH & MV lamps yet there are still specific MH ballasts out there. There is a family of dimming ballasts out there that can be manually or motion sensor dimmed to save energy that are being used quite extensively in warehouse applications The latest in the ballast technology are the electronic ballasts that at present are very costly but offer less maintenance costs, greater operating costs and of course can be used in smaller fixture. There is an electronic ballast now out that can run any of the HID lamps. The electronic ballasts are the next generation of lighting ballasts. 11

BALLASTS For Mercury (MV), Metal Halide(MH) and Low Pressure Sodium(LPS) there are sub-groupings of ballasts as Reactor ballasts (NPF) no capacitor Reactor ballast (HPF) with capacitor. High Reactance Autotransformer (HX) Constant Wattage Autotransformer (CWA) Constant Wattage Isolated (CWI) Within the type of ballast there is a sub grouping of ballasts as follows: For Mercury (MV), Metal Halide(MH) and Low Pressure Sodium(LPS) there are; Reactor ballasts (NPF) no capacitor & used where the input voltage to the fixture is the same as the lamp starting voltage. Usually watt Reactor ballast (HPF) with capacitor. Same characteristics as NPF unit but the capacitor blows if there is a power surge thus protecting the ballast. Usually watt High Reactance Autotransformer (HX) for use where the input voltage does not meet the starting voltage of the lamp. Usually watt Constant Wattage Autotransformer (CWA)- the most common type of ballast. Better quality and operating characteristics than reactor ballasts. Accidental lamp outage due to current drops is greatly reduced due to the ballasts ability to tolerate current drops of 30-40%. Usually watt Constant Wattage Isolated (CWI) Highest lamp regulation available and very safe as no connection between primary and secondary coils of the unit. Unit can stand a 50% current drop before lamp goes out. In Canada these ballasts must be used for 480 and 600v applications. Usually watt 12

BALLASTS For High Pressure Sodium (HPS) all these ballasts require a starter A. Reactors, as above. B. High Reactance Auto as above. C. Constant Wattage Auto as above. D. Constant Wattage Isolated, (Regulated Lag) as above. The pricing of these ballasts is usually in the same order as the type listing above. For High Pressure Sodium (HPS) all these ballasts require a starter to help get the lamp started, there are: A. Reactors, as above. B. High Reactance Auto as above. C. Constant Wattage Auto as above. D. Constant Wattage Isolated, (Regulated Lag) as above. 13

BALLASTS Pulse Start Ballasts for Metal Halide special ballasts to run special lamps. Various companies offer these ballasts to run the highend Metal Halide lamps, which give better color and longer life. These ballasts require a starter. HID Electronic Ballasts: offer better operation of the lamps due to less fluctuations in current, better color rendition from the lamps, quieter operation and longer lamp life. Vari Ballast: latest type. Unit can run HID and Fluorescent and has dimming capabilities. Pulse Start Ballasts for Metal Halide, special ballasts to run special lamps. Various companies offer these ballasts to run the high-end Metal Halide lamps, which give better color and longer life. These ballasts require a starter. HID Electronic Ballasts: offer better operation of the lamps due to less fluctuations in current, better color rendition from the lamps, quieter operation and longer lamp life. At the present these units are very costly. There is a major difference in the mounting distance of these units versus the standard type of ballasts (magnetic) and that is that they must be within 25 of the unit they control versus 100. Vari Ballast: latest type. Unit can run HID and Fluorescent and has dimming capabilities. The unit is a Master Control Unit, MCU or more commonly known as a Micro Processor. 14

BALLASTS BALLAST LIFE: dependent on current fluctuations, with or without capacitor, magnetic or electronic. dependent on where the fixture and/or ballast is mounted, the new electronic ballast/micro processors have the longest life. BALLAST PROTECTION: capacitors, fuses and ballast potting are devices and methods for ballast protection. putting ballasts in remote locations, cooler areas, helps to reduce maintenance costs. electronic ballasts are not subjected to the operating conditions or environments as magnetic ballasts so there protection is greater BALLAST LIFE: is dependent on current fluctuations, with or without capacitor, magnetic or electronic. Ballast life is also dependent on where the fixture and/or ballast is mounted, in a very hot environment versus outdoors, is the ballast remotely mounted or integral to the fixture. The new electronic ballast/micro processors have the longest life. BALLAST PROTECTION: Capacitors, fuses and ballast potting are devices and methods for ballast protection. Putting ballasts in remote locations, cooler areas, is a very good method of protection for the ballast and it also helps to reduce maintenance costs. Electronic ballasts are not subjected to the operating conditions or environments as magnetic ballasts so there protection is greater. 15

BALLASTS BALLAST to FIXTURE RELATIONSHIP: any fixture that has an HID lamp must use a ballast. ballasts are necessary to boost or reduce the current from the incoming line to the lamp so that startup may occur. all sizes of ballasts fit into their fixtures, so that is why you see some different sized units within a family of units. a good example is the Surface Mounted fixture family: you will see 4 different sized units that are produced so that all available ballasts can be mounted BALLAST to FIXTURE RELATIONSHIP: any fixture that has and HID lamp must use a ballast. Due to starting current requirements ballasts are necessary to boost or reduce the current from the incoming line to the lamp so that startup may occur. Fixture makers must be sure that all sizes of ballasts fit into their fixtures so that is why you see some different sized units within a family of units. A good example is the Surface Mounted fixture family. You will see 4 different sized units that are produced so that all available ballasts can be mounted in fixtures designed to take specific sized ballasts. To mount a small HPS ballast in a fixture requires a smaller fixture than to mount MH ballasts in a fixture. This is also true for the Lamps. As you will see from the lamp examples, later on, the lamp is also a large contributor to fixture design and in a lot of cases more so than the ballast. 16

BALLASTS OTHER INFO Fluorescent ballasts are all potted and HID ballasts can be potted as well if wanted. Ballasts must be mated to the lamp ratings or vice versa. 18 LAMPS come in all shapes, sizes, colors and various wattages made of an outer glass envelope with a wire or ceramic inner filament some have an inner envelope that fits over the filament lamp envelope is made of clear glass and can then be coated, phosphorus coating, or painted or etched have a base, screw type, bayonet or pin all lamps, except flashlights, use a socket for mounting LAMPS; come in all shapes, sizes, colors and various wattages but all are made of an outer glass envelope with a wire or ceramic inner filament. Some lamps also have an inner envelope that fits over the filament. Every lamp envelope is made of clear glass and can then be coated, phosphorus coating, or painted or etched. All lamps have a base, screw type, bayonet or pin, and all lamps, except flashlights, must use a socket for mounting. A lamps primary purpose is to supply light and in order to do so they need electricity. To provide this electricity a lamp must have a battery, a solar battery, a ballast or in the case of incandescent lamps a direct electric current input to light the lamp. 18

LAMPS - Incandescent LAMP COMPARISONS: basically there are 3 distinct lamp types out there: Incandescent lamps basic everyday type of lamp used in commercial and residential lighting can be used indoors or outdoors Main criteria: lamps do not exceed that wattage rating stated on the fixture lamp voltage must be equal to the line voltage LAMP COMPARISONS: basically there are 3 distinct lamp types out there. Incandescent lamps are the basic everyday type of lamp that are used in commercial and residential lighting. As with the other 2 types of lamps, incandescent lamps can be used indoors or outdoors in fixtures designed for their use. One of the main criteria is that the lamps do not exceed that wattage rating stated on the fixture and the second criteria is that the lamp voltage must be equal to the voltage that is running through the lines. 19

LAMPS - Incandescent require no ballast to operate the lamp do not give off the same level of light output as the other 2 lamps - applications are very limited Halogens, or Quartz do not require a ballast and can be used indoors or outdoors run extremely hot, due to their size and construction, and must never be touched can be mounted in and hard wired to HID fixtures Incandescent lamps require no ballast to operate the lamp. Incandescent units do not give off the same level of light output as the other 2 types of lamp so that their applications are very limited. Within the incandescent family are found the Halogens, or Quartz, lamps. These lamps do not require a ballast and can be used indoors or outdoors. Halogen or Quartz lamps run extremely hot, due to their size and construction, and must never be touched when running or until they have cooled right down. Halogen/Quartz lamps can be mounted in and hard wired to HID fixtures to give instant light if there is a power interruption in an HID environment as they have the instant strike capabilities that allow light to be provided once the hydro comes on until the HID lamps restrike. 20

LAMPS - Fluorescent Fluorescent lamps are widely used in numerous applications. require a very different shaped fixture due to the construction of the lamp primarily long, 12 inches to 8 feet mated to ballasted fixtures Requires ballast for starting and maintaining the current levels give off more light than incandescent lamps usually found in commercial and industrial applications because of the fixture size Fluorescent lamps are widely used in numerous applications. They require a very different shaped fixture due to the construction of the lamp. Fluorescent lamps are primarily long, 12 inches to 8 feet, thin lamps that are mated to ballasted fixtures. All fluorescent lamps require a ballast for starting and maintaining the current levels so there must be a mating of lamp and ballast wherever they are used. Fluorescent lamps give off more light than incandescent lamps and are usually found in commercial and industrial applications because of the fixture size. 21

LAMPS - HID HID lamps used in many applications, including residential where building size and height are a criteria have some very unique usage criteria based on the varying color ratings of lamps yellow color makes them impractical for indoor use for example require ballasts or a self ballasted lamp to produce light higher fixture cost but operating costs are lower due to efficiency, longer lamp life and less maintenance HID lamps are used in many applications, including residential, where building size and height are a criteria. HID lamps, because of the varying color ratings of lamps, have some very unique usage criteria. An example is the use of HPS lamps as an indoor light source. Because of the yellow color produced by these lamps their use as an indoor product will be unacceptable. HID lamps require ballasts or a self ballasted lamp to produce light. HID lights usually have a higher fixture cost than other type of fixtures but in the long run their operating costs are lower, due to the amount of electricity used to run the lamp, longer life of the lamp and thus lower replacement costs and less maintenance costs. 22

LAMPS - Terminology LAMP TERMINOLOGY: lamps have common ratings or measurements that apply to all lamps and some of these are 1. Lumens/Luminous Flux; measurement of light output from a lamp. 2. Lux/ Illuminance; measurement of light intensity falling on a surface. 3. Efficiency of the Lamp; lamps convert electrical power, watts, to light. Different lamps do this with varying efficiency. Lower the efficiency the lower the lamp life. 4. Initial Foot-candles; light level after new lamps installed. 5. Maintained Foot-candles; light levels after light loss factors are considered over a period of time. LAMP TERMINOLOGY; lamps have common ratings or measurements that apply to all lamps and some of these are: 1. Lumens/Luminous Flux; measurement of light output from a lamp. 2. Lux/ Illuminance; measurement of light intensity falling on a surface. There are many factors in this measurement such as area, height, reflectance and lumen output of the lamps being measured. 3. Efficiency of the Lamp; lamps convert electrical power, watts, to light. Different lamps do this with varying efficiency. Incandescent at 10 lumens per watt to LPS lamps at lumens per watt. Lower the efficiency the lower the lamp life. 4. Initial Foot-candles; light level after new lamps installed. 5. Maintained Foot-candles; light levels after light loss factors are considered over a period of time. 23

LAMPS - Conclusion Some Lamps from GE Lamp Guide HID lamps have characteristics that allow them to burn & perform only when mounted in a fixture in a set position HID lamps can explode and thus send shards of glass. Over the last few years lamp manufacturers have developed lamps with the internal envelope to catch the glass shards before they fall I think all of you are aware of the different shapes of incandescent and fluorescent lamps but may not be as familiar with the shapes of the HID lamps. I am inserting a series of pages from a GE Lamp Guide that shows you the various sizes, shapes and types of HID lamps as manufactured by GE. Other lamp manufacturers, Phillips, Venture & others, have their own directories/guides as well. There are also info. Data sheets here as well. Some HID lamps have characteristics that allow them to burn & perform only when mounted in a fixture in a set position such as base up, base down or horizontal burning position. This means that the socket has a specific orientation in the fixture to give maximum efficiency to the lamp. Because HID lamps can explode and thus send shards of glass everywhere there is a need, especially in Hi-Bay units in the food industry to us enclosed fixtures so that the glass does not drop into vats of food mixtures. Over the last few years lamp manufacturers have developed lamps with the internal envelope to catch the glass shards before they fall and burn through the outer envelope and thus the use of open fixtures is more acceptable. 24

LAMPS - Conclusion By virtue of the gases used in the construction of HID lamps there is distinctive coloring that comes from each lamp: mercury vapor and metal halide lamps give off a white light color sodium s give off a yellow color Super Metalarc lamps give of the most brilliant white light of all lamps Metal Halide lamps tend to give a light that displays objects in their most natural color spectrum By virtue of the gases used in the construction of HID lamps there is distinctive coloring that comes from each lamp. Mercury vapor and metal halide lamps give off a white light color while the sodium s give off a yellow cover. Super Metalarc lamps give of the most brilliant white light of all lamps. The Metal Halide lamps tend to give a light that displays objects in their most natural color spectrum. Ladies and gentlemen this gives you some ideas about the ballast and lamp end of the lighting fixture business and in particular to the HID business. I ve put an appendix at the end of this presentation that lists some sites where you can get further information on ballasts and lamps as your need arises. 25

PRODUCTS - Overview Overview of some of the fixtures that our firm Pollux supplies to ESAPCO/FARMTEK. Things that differentiate HID products from the other types of lighting out there HID lighting fixtures design, give off a more regulated light pattern distribution than incandescent or fluorescent fixtures usually through the use of reflectors We now come to the real reason for your time here today and that is a quick overview of some of the fixtures that our firm Pollux supplies to ESAPCO/FARMTEK. Before we look at individual items just a quick overview of some of the things that differentiate HID products from the other types of lighting out there. HID lighting fixtures, by design, give off a more regulated light pattern distribution than incandescent or fluorescent fixtures usually through the use of reflectors. 26

PRODUCTS - Overview HID lighting fixtures use of HID products, to light a given area with necessitated footcandles, usually takes fewer fixtures initial cost more per fixture but the installation, maintenance and electricity costs are considerably lower payback re the higher purchased costs are achieved in a very few years life of the lamp and ballast are much longer due to the aluminum content in cast fixtures The use of HID products, to light a given area with necessitated footcandles, usually takes fewer fixtures. These fewer fixtures may initially cost more per fixture but the installation, maintenance and electricity costs are considerably lower and payback re the higher purchased costs are achieved in a very few years. The life of the lamp and ballast are much longer than the alternatives and the fixtures themselves have a long life due to the aluminum content that are in cast fixtures. 27

PRODUCTS - Overview HID lighting fixtures capable of being dimmed and are thus an excellent product for use in warehouse In large structures, warehouses and factories HID ballast allow for remote mounting from the fixtures (at floor level for easy maintenance) HID ballast tend to have longer life and less ballast problems than fluorescent HID fixtures designed for outdoor use are normally waterproof 28

PRODUCTS - Overview HID lighting fixtures The use of a specific HID fixture versus another HID fixture is dependent on: the electrical characteristics of the area to be lit the type of lamp the customer wants to use, the character of the space to be lit the output required. HID units are capable of being dimmed and are thus an excellent product for use in warehouses etc. where there must be light but which are subject to very minimal movement and thus it is advantages to have the lights dim until activity brings them up to full brilliance. In large structures, warehouses and factories HID ballast allow for remote mounting from the fixtures so you can have your ballasts at floor level and the fixture up high and thus maintenance costs are lower if a ballast fails as you don t need lift trucks etc. to reach the ballast. Fluorescent fixtures can not be run with remote ballast and thereby replacement costs are higher. HID ballast tend to have longer life and less ballast problems than fluorescent. HID fixtures designed for outdoor use are normally waterproof. Any fixture, however, if mounted with the glass lens face up into the sky will allow some water into the unit. Most external use HID units are used in a face down or horizontal mounted position and thus are waterproof. Any manufacturer can make a fixture that is 90% guaranteed waterproof but that raises the costs and usually is not a necessity. 29

PRODUCTS - Overview Product must meet code codes govern the sale of qualified products in the marketplace In the US and Canada we have UL/CUL approvals that cover all lighting fixtures Codes certify that the fixtures must meet required parameters: operating temperatures, use of sockets that prevent a lamp from being screwed in incorrectly the use of approved wiring The use of a specific HID fixture versus another HID fixture is dependent on a number of factors. The electrical characteristics of the area to be lit, the type of lamp the customer wants to use, the character of the space to be lit and the output required. The USA and Canada, along with other countries of the world, have codes that govern the sale of qualified products in the marketplace. In the US and Canada we have UL/CUL approvals that cover all lighting fixtures that are sold. These codes certify that the fixtures must meet required parameters to receive approval. These parameters are operating temperatures, use of sockets that prevent a lamp from being screwed in incorrectly and thus cause light fixture failure, the use of wiring, that bears its own approval 30

PRODUCTS - Overview Product must meet code Code parameters: use of gasketting material in a fixture EPDM or neoprene if not a hot running silicone for higher temperature units labeling of a fixture prior to sale Each of these areas of approval certify that the fixture meets all the requirements in a fixture, the use of gasketting material in a fixture, EPDM or neoprene if not a hot running unit but silicone for higher temperature units and even the labeling of a fixture prior to sale. Each of these areas of approval certify that the fixture meets all the requirements to assure the customer that if he mounts the fixture and uses in the manner described by the manufacturer that he will have no problems with the unit. If a manufacture puts an approval number on his fixture he is liable for any damages or failures caused by the normal operation of the unit. If a manufacturer puts UL/CUL labels on products not approved he can have his manufacturers rights removed and thus not allowed to make or sell his fixtures in the market. 31

PRODUCTS - Overview Product Construction Most HID fixtures : made with the use of aluminum and thus withstand a greater number of elements than steel bodied fixture are painted, where applicable, with powder coat finishes that are baked on for greater protection Most HID fixtures are made with the use of aluminum and thus withstand a greater number of elements that can cause corrosion than a steel bodied fixture. Most manufacturers of HID products paint their units, where applicable, with powder coat finishes that are baked on for greater protection against the elements. If you know a fixture is going to be mounted on a pier, into the ocean, you should not sell a standard HID fixture. The salt spray from the water will erode away the paint and the aluminum very quickly and your customer will not be pleased. You can order as a special manufacture a fixture that is cast with an alloy that is of a higher copper content and thus able to withstand the salt spray to a much greater extent. To do this your customer may be required to buy a specific quantity of fixtures and he can expect a very high cost. 32

PRODUCTS Specific Units PL2013 Fluorescent Trouble Light: 1 simple work light similar in use to the units you ve all seen used in garages uses a PL13 fluorescent lamp unit comes with a SJTW cord with a 300V rating uses a PL13 fluorescent lamp The first unit is our PL2013 Fluorescent Trouble Light: this unit is a simple work light similar in use to the units you ve all seen used in garages. This particular unit uses a PL13 fluorescent lamp, hence its name. The unit comes with a SJTW cord with a 300V rating. 33

PRODUCTS Specific Units PL2013 Fluorescent Trouble Light: 2 unit is a polymeric housing with a polycarbonate lens unit also comes with an on/off switch Easy relamping with only two (2) screws to open the relamp door The unit is a polymeric housing with a polycarbonate lens. 35 PRODUCTS Specific Units PL W Halogen Worklight : 1 unit runs a 500w Quartz Halogen lamp does not require a ballast runs from direct current comes with it s own cord - vinyl coated SJTW has a safety guard protecting the tempered glass This unit comes with it s own cord and again is a vinyl coated SJTW wire that is 300V rated. In the same family of fixtures is our PL W Halogen Worklight: as the name implies this unit runs a 500w Quartz Halogen lamp. Quartz Halogen fixtures do not require a ballast for running. Direct current, from the plug, is sufficient to light the lamp. A very important safety note- quartz lamps (halogen lamps) are extremely hot burning so you never touch a lamp when it is burning nor should you touch the glass lens. It is also important to note that you never touch the lamps with your bare hand. Always install the lamp using a cloth or a glove as the oils on your skin can cause the lamp to fail prematurely. This unit comes with it s own cord and again is a vinyl coated SJTW wire that is 300V rated. 35
