1 SECTION LIGHTING PART 1- GENERAL 1.01 WORK INCLUDED A. The Contractor shall provide all lighting fixtures, panelboards, labor, material, etc., in accordance with the preceding specifications, the requirements of this Section and as shown on the Contract Drawings. B. Lighting shall be in accordance with latest requirements of the illuminating engineering society and all lighting fixtures shall have the Underwriter s Laboratories label of approval. C. All wiring shall be placed in conduit and shall comply with the specifications for conduits, outlet boxes, pull and junction boxes wire and cables, grounding, etc, as set forth in these specifications and as noted herein. D. The contractor shall submit for approval, catalog cuts showing performance and construction details of standard fixtures, and complete working drawings showing all proposed construction details for special or modified standard fixtures, and shall submit ETL photometric curves. E. Manufacturer s catalog number and description in this section establishes quality, style, finish, etc. The Contractor shall provide pigtails and flexible conduit where required at connections to the outlet box. The use of catalog number describing the various types of fixtures shall be used as a guide only, and does not include all the required accessories or hardware that may be required for a complete installation MANUFACTURERS A. The equipment covered by these specifications shall be standard equipment - of proven performance as manufactured by reputable concerns. Equipment shall be designed, constructed and installed in accordance with the best practices of the trade, and shall operate satisfactorily when installed as shown on the contract drawings
2 1.03 SUBMITTALS A. In accordance with the procedures and requirements set forth in Division 1, the contractor shall obtain from the equipment manufacturer and submit the following: 1. Shop drawings. 2. Preliminary operation and maintenance manuals. 3. Final operation and maintenance manuals. 4. Spare parts list. B. Each submittal shall be identified by the applicable equipment identification number and specification section. C. Each submittal shall be complete in all respects, incorporating all information and data listed herein and all additional information required for evaluation of the proposed equipment s compliance with the contract documents. Partial, incomplete or illegible submissions will be returned to the contractor without review for resubmittal. D. Shop drawings shall include but not be limited to: 1. Equipment specifications and data sheets identifying all materials used and methods of fabrication. 2. Complete assembly, layout, and installation drawings with clearly marked dimensions. 3. Weights of all component parts, assembled weight of units and approximate total shipping weight. 4. Example equipment nameplate data sheet Interconnecting wiring diagrams. 6. Manufacturer s name, address, and telephone number
3 E. The Contractor shall submit operation and maintenance manual in accordance with the procedures and requirements set forth in Division I TOOLS, SUPPLIES AND SPARE PARTS A. The panels and accessories shall be furnished with all special tools necessary to disassemble, service, repair and adjust the equipment, all spare parts as recommended by the equipment manufacturer and the following spare parts: 1. 5 ballasts of each type used on jobsite fluorescent lamps of each type used on jobsite. B. Spare parts lists, included with the shop drawing submittal shall indicate specific sizes, quantities and parts numbers of the items to be furnished. Terms such as I lot of packing material are not acceptable. C. Parts shall be completely identified with a numerical system to facilitate inventory control and stocking. Each part shall be properly identified by a separate number. Those parts which are identical for more than one size shall have the same parts number BALLASTS PART 2 - PRODUCTS A. All ballasts shall be high-power factor, energy efficient type. B. Ballasts shall be directly mounted to housing without spacers or washers, and shall be removable to facilitate repairs. C. Ballasts shall meet Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. specifications and shall be certified by Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) for compliance with certified ballast manufacturer (CBM). Ballasts shall be electronic with less than 20% THD
4 2.02 FIXTURES A. Sockets shall be porcelain or high-heat non-hydroscopic, non-flammable, mounded compound bodies with keyless sockets (for incandescent fixtures) rated at not less than 600 watts 250 volts. B. All glassware shall be high quality, homogeneous in texture, uniform in quality, free from defects, of uniform thickness throughout and properly annealed. Edges shall be rounded and free from chips and rough edges. C. Fluorescent fixtures shall be complete with housings, louvers, if required, accessories, starters, of the types and quantities specified herein and on the drawings LAMPS A. The contractor shall furnish and install lamps in all fixtures, incandescent lamps shall be inside frosted with minimum rated life of 750 hours, except where drawings indicate FAR, R type HID lamps. B. Fluorescent lamps shall be T-8, 32 watt or T-5, 28 watt with minimum rated life of 18,000 hours and rated output in the range of 2,700 to 2,800 lumens per application with minimum CRI of 75. Prior to acceptance of the work by the engineer, the contractor shall clean all fixtures and replace all nonworking lamps. C. All outdoor light fixtures, including wall packs, shall be full cutoff per Suffolk County Local Law ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS A. The contractor shall provide fixtures as indicated on the drawings. B. Acceptable manufacturers for each category of fixture arc as follows: 1. Fluorescent fixtures Crouse Hinds; Hubbel; Lithonia; Appleton, or equal
5 2. HID. fixtures Appleton; Crouse-Hinds; Hubbel; or equal. 3. Industrial incandescent Appleton; Crouse-Hinds; Russel-Stoll, or equal. 4. Explosion proof incandescent Appleton, Crouse- Hinds; or equal. C. Ballasts shall be as manufactured by General Electric, Westinghouse, Sylvania, Magnetek, or equal INSTALLATION PART 3 - EXECUTION A. Lighting fixtures shall be located as shown -on the Contract Drawings. Lighting fixtures to be of type specified on Contract Drawings, unless otherwise noted. B. The Contractor shall provide and install all inserts, conduit, wiring, structural supports, fluorescent tubes, mercury and sodium vapor lamps, ballasts, etc. as specified, or otherwise required, for a fully operational system. He shall properly adjust and test the entire lighting system to the satisfaction of the Engineer. C. The Contractor shall protect all fixtures at all times from damage, dirt, dust, etc. Before final acceptance, all fixtures and devices shall be cleaned of all dust, dirt, or other material, be fully relamped and in operating condition to the satisfaction of the Engineer. D. Circuiting shall be as shown on the Contract Drawings. E. The Contractor shall provide recessed fixtures with a separate junction box concealed and located as to be accessible when fixture is removed. Prewired junction box attached to fixture shall be provided in all incandescent downlights, where housing is bigger than aperature opening. F. All lighting units when installed shall be set true and be free of light leaks, warps, dents, and other irregularities. All hangers,
6 cables, supports, channels, and brackets of all kinds for safely erecting this equipment in place, shall be furnished and erected in place by the Contractor. G. The Contractor shall install fixtures at mounting heights indicated or as instructed by the Engineer. In areas with exposed ducts and/or piping, installation of lighting fixtures shall be adapted to field conditions as determined by the Engineer. H. The contractor shall support each fixture securely. Each fluorescent fixture shall be secured to the pump station. The Contractor shall not secure fixtures to the work of other trades, unless specified or noted otherwise, and shall not support fixtures from plaster. The Contractor shall furnish and install all steel members and supports as required to fasten and suspend fixtures from the structure. I. In all mechanical equipment areas, the contractor shall install lighting fixtures on ceiling after all piping and equipment therein has been installed. Exact locations for such fixtures may be determined by the engineer on the site during the course of the work. J. Upon completion of work, and after the building area is broom clean, all fixtures shall be made clean and free of dust and all other foreign matter, both on visible surfaces and on surfaces that affect the lighting performance of the fixture, including diffusers, lenses, louvers, reflectors and lamps. K. All fixtures that require physical adjustment shall be so adjusted in accordance with the directions of the Engineer. The Contractor shall also adjust angular direction of fixtures and/or lamps, as directed. L. Relamping access shall require no special tools. All optical control surfaces such as lenses and reflectors shall be safely and securely attached to fixtures and shall be easily and quickly removed and replaced for cleaning without the use of tools. No fixture part that may be removed for maintenance shall be held in place by metal tabs that must be bent to remove said part
7 M. The Contractor shall install switches 4 feet above the floor at the locations shown, and they shall be single pole, double pole, 3 way or 4 way as indicated. N. All switches shall be enclosed in cast boxes and shall be furnished with waterproof, cast covers for surface mounting. The Contractor shall provide all covers with rubber or neoprene gaskets. - END OF SECTION
