1 4 th Grade Spring Break Math Activities Instructions Indiana s College- and Career-Ready Academic Standards 2014 include one or more math fluency standards per grade level in Grades 1-8. Fluency will be assessed on the 2015 ISTEP+ with a short test (ten minutes or less) at the beginning of Part 2 in April/May. The fluency standards for 4 th Grade are: 4.C.1: Add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers fluently using a standard algorithmic approach. 4.C.4: Multiply fluently within 100. The selected activities for Spring Break 2015 are aligned to the 4 th Grade fluency standards. Please select one or more for your student. Addition up to 10,000 and Subtraction within 10,000 Crossword Puzzles o Students will compute the answer to each clue in the crossword puzzle. o Students may complete the puzzles independently or with a partner. o Product to turn in on April 6, 2015: completed puzzle(s) Five-Minute Multiplying Frenzy o Students will complete the Five-Minute Multiplying Frenzy grids with a goal of 5 minutes per grid. o Product to be turned in on April 6, 2015: completed grids Juniper Green 100 o Students will play the game twice, using the two boards provided. o The goal of a two-player game is to develop a strategy to force your opponent out of the game by becoming unable to select a new factor or multiple. o The goal of a one-player game is to use as many numbers in the grid as possible. o Product to be turned in on April 6, 2015: completed recording sheets

7 Juniper Green 100 Topic Factors and Multiples Players 1 or 2 Materials Object Juniper Green game board (one for each game), highlighter or pencil Use strategy to force opponent out of play The first player begins by highlighting an even number. Play Players take turns highlighting any remaining number that is a factor or a multiple of the previous number selected by the opponent. Players record the factor or multiple selected on the recording sheet. Play continues until no factor or multiple can be highlighted. One- Player Game The goal for a One-Player Game is to select factors and multiples so that as many numbers as possible in the grid are used. Sample Recording Sheet:
