Any two of the four cards with the same value or meaning can be considered a match. MATCH These cards provide an avenue for students of mixed abilities help each other improve their fluency with mental math and modeling for a variety of topics across all math domains. The cards can be used for activities and games by individual students, pairs, or small groups. Each easy-to-print card set comes with brief instruction cards for four games and a folding card storage pocket. All Rights Reserved. Teacher s es It s easy to create an interactive bulletin board similar to the sample! Use versatile game cards for review or to improve fluency. Students can play games alone, with a partner, or with a group. Some games require only a few minutes. Setting Up a Bulletin Board Game s Choose one or more sets of Multi-Match game cards to feature on the bulletin board. (At least one free set is available for each grade level.) Print several copies of the game cards and cut apart. You may want to print a couple of extra sets in case cards get lost or damaged. Cut apart the cards or ask students to help. Game Setup Signs There are four different games to play with any set of cards. These are described briefly on the mini cards that come with each set. For more detailed instructions, download the free Games Guide. The setup for each game in shown on signs on pages 4-7. Decide which games to feature and print the appropriate signs. Game Storage Pockets Each card set comes with a folding card storage pocket that shows the card set title. Print the pocket for each set along with pockets for unshuffled cards (from this file). Answer Keys Each card set comes with a recording sheet and answer key. You may want to make the answer keys available for reference during games. If so, use a file folder to make a pocket to hold the answer keys. Bulletin Board Headings and Multi-Match Sign Print the headings and the Multi-Match sign. Arrange all of the parts on a bulletin board. You may want print the Math Games title at 200% or cut out your own large letters. Using the Bulletin Board Introducing the s Choose four matching cards from one of the card sets and display these on the Multi-Match sign. Point out that the cards are labeled with suits (stars, squares, circles, and triangles). A matched group of four cards will include one card from each suit. Explain that during games, any two of the four cards can be matched to each other. This is illustrated by the small two-way arrows on the Multi-Match sign. (During the Crazy Match game, students may also match two cards of the same suit.) Discuss game instructions for one or more games and answer any questions that students have. Reminders for Students When finished with a set of cards, return them to the appropriate pocket or to a pocket. Each card set has a unique border. Put stray cards away by looking for the cards with the matching border design. If the Wild cards were not used during a game, remember to put them back along with the other cards. The games are not meant to be a speed contest. Make sure that your partner or others in your group can justify whether cards match. Help each other understand the topic. If you disagree, refer to an answer key for the set.
