A variation on freeform peyote, we will focus specifically on ruffles. We will start by discussing potential color schemes and ways to move colors and textures through your piece to help integrate the design. You'll be able to complete a smaller project like a pair of earrings or pendant, or make a good start on a larger project such as a bracelet. Both styles are created by combining various elements. The base elements are covered using a coiling technique called the gypsy wire wrap. Dangle precious gemstones from the eyes to add color and movement. Join the components with jump rings to create fabulous gypsy-style chandelier earrings. 14 MIXED MEDIA CLASSES Chemical-Free Etching Instructor: Juli Martin $25+$10 materials fee Learn how to etch beautiful images onto copper without the hazardous waste of traditional methods. Science fair meets jewelry adventure in what is sure to become a favorite technique for modifying metal. Learn to build a compact etching system using repurposed household goods as well as several different techniques of resist and image transfer. We will also learn how to create more detailed and textural images using multi-layer etches and patina techniques. Session 1: Wednesday, May 30 6pm-9pm Session 2: Monday, August 6 6pm-9pm Trapped Rings Instructor: Juli Martin $25 Capture beads, cabochons, rough stones, sea glass, old coins and more with this versatile technique. Learn the basics of what kinds of shapes work and what don t, as well as different prong shapes and designs. Mix metal and textures to create gorgeous rings out of ordinary (and extraordinary) objects. Session 1: Wednesday, June 27 6pm-9pm Metal Garden* Instructor: Melissa Cable $45 Learn to make metal flowers using metal shears...no jeweler s saw needed! Students will receive patterns for three flowers and choose their own project. As part of creating the flowers you ll learn to cut, file, texture, stamp and rivet metal while exploring different ways to incorporate these flowers into your other metal or mixed media designs.
