2 LICORICE ALLSORTS NECKLACE by Vicki Runnegar I am quite fond of making things that resemble food! WHAT YOU NEED Polymer Clay in bright yellow, hot pink, black and white. Try Sculpey or Fimo. Colourful chord to use for necklace Ruler Sharp cutting implement, Sculpey blade or box cutter Clay roller something hard and smooth like side of a glass cup. Needle tool or a toothpick or skewer. Baking tray Oven This licorice allsorts necklace is no different. Made from polymer clay, this necklace makes a fun colourful neck adornment for you or could be given as a gift. You may need to fend off some sweet tooth s who try to eat it though. The licorice beads are medium level difficulty, if you have a steady hand and a light touch you will have no trouble but some might find this a bit of a challenge. If you have any licorice bead failures don t despair, use the clay to roll onto spherical beads to get a nice marble effect. Kids will have a great time rolling off cuts into beads to use to make their own necklaces.

3 Step 1: MAKE LAYERED ALLSORTS Break off 1 row of each black, yellow and white polymer clay. Knead clay with fingers to condition and make pliable for use. Step 4: Now you have all of your pieces ready to layer. These pieces will need to be able to fit a 4cm x 2cm rectangle. Step 2: Working on a hard flat surface, roll clay into a ball and then roll out into a rectangular shape about 5mm thick. I used a small plastic clay roller, you could use the side of a glass cup for this. Step 3: Cut each piece in half. Put aside half of the white clay to use later for the pink licorice. Step 5: Layer your clay with the straight edge matching in this order - yellow, black, white, black, yellow. Step 6: You need a very sharp cutting blade for this. I used the Sculpey one, you could try a box cutter. Carefully slice off the edge to get a nice even finish.

4 Step 7: Use a ruler to measure 2 by 2cm x 2cm squares and cut out to make 2 cubes. Cutting can be tricky, it is best to shave off small amounts at a time to avoid smudging and blurring. Step 8: To make holes, gently insert a needle tool or a toothpick into the top of the allsort bead rotating as you go. Turn over bead and repeat. You may need to ease the hole larger until it is the right size for your chord. Step 9: Repeat steps 1-8 to make pink allsorts beads, place on a tray ready to bake. Step 10: MAKE CYLINDER ALLSORTS Condition 2 rows of black and white clay. Roll the white clay into a 2cm diameter log. Roll out the black to make a 5mm thick rectangle. It needs it to be about the right size to wrap around the log. Step 11: Slice off end of rectangle to make a straight edge. Wrap around the log, cut the other end of the rectangle so that the edges meet without overlap. Smooth edges with your fingers. Step 12: Evenly roll out the cylinder until it is about 1.5cm diameter.

5 Step 13: Trim off the end, cut 2cm lengths, rotate the blade around the circumference to cut. You may need to shave off a little form the cut ends to get a neat result. You will need 5 pieces in total. Step 16: Once cooked, thread onto chord and tie a knot. Step 14: Make holes through cylinder beads. Voilà - you have your very own licorice allsorts necklace! Step 15: Place on an oven tray and bake according to polymer clay manufacturers instructions.
