1 Golden angels in an elegant design The magic of advent these modern-looking, golden-gowned angels are simply perfect for giving your home a festive Christmas feel. Made using the clay-like FIMOair basic modelling clay, the angels are easy to make and quick to dry at room temperature. The addition of leaf metal and gold-coloured wire turns them into elegant Christmas decorations for placing on doorsteps or windowsills. 2 Preparation A B C Print out the templates for the body and wings and cut them out. For the substructure, draw around the body template 3x side by side on a piece of card and cut out the entire shape. Bend the cut-out cardboard shape to a cone and stick together with sticky tape. Cut approx. 1 cm off the top. D Tip: Roll the cut-out cardboard shape before sticking it together. This gives the cardboard a rounded form, making it easier to stick together afterwards. The sheet of FIMOair basic for covering the body has to be larger than the substructure. You therefore need to draw around the template 3½ times on a sheet of paper and cut out the entire shape. 2

3 1 2 3 For the cone, flatten 2/3 of the FIMOair basic slightly with your hand. Place the clay on a smooth surface and use the acrylic roller to roll it out until it is approx. 0.5 cm thick. Place the template from step D onto the sheet of FIMOair basic and cut out. Cover the cardboard cone with the sheet of FIMOair. It is best to work with moist hands. 4 5 Tip: Any left-over material can be wrapped up tightly in clingfilm. This keeps the material pliable so it can be used again at a later date. Use the modelling stick to smooth over the join well. Smooth over the surface of the cone with moist hands. Make a hole in the top with the wooden stick. Enlarge the hole by moving the stick around a bit. Use the aluminium wire to make 4 holes for the wings. 3

4 6 7 8 For the head, cover a polystyrene ball with an approx. 4-5 mm thick sheet of FIMOair. Smooth over the ball with moist hands and stick it onto the wooden stick. Tip: Leave the ball on the wooden stick and stand in an empty bottle to dry. Angel with golden wings Roll out the remaining FIMOair basic to a sheet. Divide into two equal-sized pieces, large enough for the wings. Place the baroque texture sheet on the sheet of FIMOair basic and roll over it once firmly and evenly with the acrylic roller. Then peel the texture sheet off carefully. Do the same on the second sheet. Tip: Before embossing, cover the texture sheet with a dusting of baby powder, talc or cornflour to make it easier to remove from the FIMO afterwards. Place the left-sided wing template on one of the sheets of FIMOair basic and cut out around it; do the same for the right-sided wing using the second sheet of FIMOair basic. Use a moist finger to smooth over the edges a little. Use a piece of aluminium wire to make the holes for attaching later. Leave the wings at room temperature to dry. Tip: Allow the finished models to dry at room temperature the amount of time that takes depends on their thickness and size. Every now and again you should check them and turn them to ensure that they dry evenly. Small cracks can be repaired later on using a little extra material. WARNING: Do NOT dry in the oven or microwave. 4

5 Once dry, remove the cardboard mould from inside the cone. Sand over any unevenness on the ball and/or cone with the sanding sponge. Sand over the edges of the wings too. Mix a little varnish and metallic powder together in a small bowl, dip the dry bristle brush lightly into the mixture and then apply to part of the angel s body using diagonal brush strokes. Brush size for leaf metal onto the wings and allow to dry briefly. Carefully add the leaf metal using a dry, soft brush and dab it on gently to make it stick. Finish off by applying a coat of varnish for leaf metal. Detailed instructions are to be found on the packaging of the leaf metal. 5

6 To attach the wings, thread a piece of aluminium wire through the holes on opposite sides of the back of the wings. Once joined together, the wings can be attached to the angel by threading the ends of the wire through the holes in the body. Bend the aluminium wire on the inside of the body to prevent the wings from slipping out. Angel with star-studded gown For this version, make the cone as described before in steps 1-4. To decorate, roll out a thin, approx. 2 mm thick sheet of FIMOair basic and cut out stars using a shaped cutter. Scratch grooves into the backs of the stars, moisten slightly and then press firmly onto the body of the angel. Use aluminium wire to make a hole in each side of the body for attaching the wings later. Make the head as described in step 6. Leave all pieces to dry thoroughly. Once dry, mix a little metallic powder in a small bowl together with a few drops of varnish. Use a brush to cover the stars with this mixture. 6

7 15 16 Make the wings by bending the aluminium wire into the shape of the template, leaving approx. 2 cm extra at each end. Insert the ends of the wings into the top of the body and into the side holes and bend inwards. For an attractive neck, wrap gold-coloured wire around the wooden stick just below the head and then stick into the body. Tip: The aluminium wire is very soft and easy to bend into shape with your fingers. With a pair of round nose pliers, you can make even more exact small curves. Larger curves can be created by bending the wire around thick felt-tip pens, small bottles or glasses. 7
