3 Brand cooperation with added value - GRASS moves kitchens made by STOSA Cucine In order to further increase its brand awareness, GRASS GmbH has embarked on a cooperative venture which is unique in this industry. The intensive cooperation which has been agreed recently with Italy's fifth largest kitchen manufacturer, STOSA Cucine, will create genuine added value for both companies. 'Ingredient branding' is the magic word - and the cooperation between GRASS and STOSA creates a win-win situation for both companies. The companies involved contribute their respective competences and end up with more than the sum of the two parts. What seems to defy the laws of arithmetic works well in practice when two fields of competence can be harmoniously combined. Harald Klüh, Global Brand Manager at GRASS, explains how it works, citing an example that most people should be familiar with: "Strong brands can benefit from each other's dynamism and create very positive awareness which they cannot convey by themselves. For example 'INTEL inside' has developed into a quality standard that is known all over the world and which, without a doubt, is perceived as a significant added value." GRASS and STOSA will be cooperating particularly closely - they have already planned joint exhibition stands and marketing activities. In future, STOSA Cucine will exclusively fit GRASS movement systems and sell its kitchen furniture with the quality seal "Moved by GRASS". This will be a way for STOSA to differentiate itself clearly from its competitors Page 2

4 and those companies which install cheap fittings from the Far East. In return, GRASS benefits from the cooperation by increasing the awareness of its own brand. In many other industries, so-called 'ingredient branding' has been around for quite a while. However, in the furniture industry a strategic cooperation such as that between GRASS and STOSA is a genuine 'first'. In spite of the novelty aspect of this departure the companies show no sign of nervousness - quite the contrary. Both partners bring a lot to the table: GRASS can look back on over 60 years of experience and expertise as developer and manufacturer of functional movement systems and has, with its innovative product solutions, made a significant contribution to the development of the entire furniture industry over the past decades. And STOSA is one of the best known kitchen manufacturers in Italy with a reputation that stretches far beyond the country's boundaries. So it is no surprise that both companies are driven by the firm conviction that their respective brands can benefit from each other and both continue to grow through this cooperation. But GRASS's and STOSA's ingredient branding will not only affect the two companies - it will also impact on the end users' perception of quality. In future, people buying kitchen furniture will be able to see at a glance what components have been used and whether they are getting genuine added value - similar to when they buy a car or computer. And this is sure to stir up some movement in the whole furniture industry. Not that the cooperation partners will mind that. After all, movement is their business. Page 3

7 Tiomos the hinge for the door to the future Maximum stability. Different levels of damping. Stylish design. With Tiomos, GRASS has initiated a new era of intelligent and highly functional hinge systems. This new type of hinge goes far beyond the conventional cup fittings which have been installed for years. Tiomos is not a development of an existing fitting but a completely new concept - which is totally groundbreaking - and which now is probably the world's best movement solution for furniture doors. The fully concealed integration of the Soft-close closing damper in the hinge arm, which can be adjusted to different levels of closing strength, is one of the outstanding characteristics of Tiomos. Irrespective of their size and weight, cabinet doors fitted with Tiomos close evenly and smoothly from a 20 opening angle. Newly developed movement processes form the basis of an extremely easy door opening action and, in addition, make it possible to minimise the width of gaps between doors and drawers. GRASS defines the fine adjustment options of Tiomos hinges in three movement dimensions. Dimension 1: depth adjustment by +3 or -2 millimetres; this is continuous and self-locking, using a worm gear principle. The second dimension is the height adjustment by +/- 2.5 millimetres. In the 3rd dimension, the overlay can be adjusted by +/- 2 millimetres with limit stop. There are a number of Tiomos versions for furniture makers to choose from. The continuously expanded Tiomos range includes movement solutions for glass, mirror and aluminium frame doors through to Page 6

8 variable wide-angle applications and offers the perfect movement for almost all applications - with and without damping system. In short: Tiomos is perfect for meeting the increasingly demanding requirements of modern furniture making. With Tiomos it is possible to cover door thicknesses between 14 and 26 millimetres with just one type of hinge. Furthermore, it offers maximum reliability because the ergonomic clip component engages audibly, which means that installation errors can be avoided. GRASS offers its customers continuity as the depth of the cup remains unchanged and customers can continue to work with the usual depth of 12.6 millimetres. In order to develop and produce a hinge of this quality it was necessary to draw on the expertise of the entire GRASS group. In the early development phase, which lasted several years, developers already focused on such important attributes as kinematics, long service life, stability, style and full functionality in all climate conditions. Experience of more than 30 years of hinge system production in the GRASS group was channeled into producing the right quality. The durability tests are extensive. The climate change and vacuum tests were devised by GRASS especially for Tiomos. This new hinge system by GRASS has achieved exceptionally positive values in tests for durability and for deflection under load. Furthermore, the use of top-quality materials and state-ofthe-art production methods guarantees superior product quality of the kind that customers have come to expect from GRASS products. 11 DWD XP: versatile, comprehensive double-wall drawer range for high-comfort movement People are all different and so it is with their ambitions, desires and needs. Some may be looking for a more compact solution whereas others prefer the generosity of an island layout. But maximum functionality is something everyone wants. The comprehensive double-wall drawer systems DWD XP and DWD XP Agantis by GRASS meet nearly all of these requirements, from the slides to the add-on system. The extraordinary running performance of the DWD XP drawer system and the elegant design of the double-wall drawer sides combine to form a comprehensive drawer system of the highest quality. DWD XP offers outstanding quality, maximum design freedom and innovative functional solutions for modern furniture making. The technical data of the DWD XP system illustrate the point. With load capacities of 40 kg, 60 kg and 80 kg even extra-wide drawers with heavy loads are extremely stable. 12 Individual design options, from the slide to the add-on system The DWD XP range includes various colour, material and design schemes for the drawer sides - with matching add-on and dividing systems - thereby offering maximum design freedom. High-quality surfaces in a wide range of materials and elegant colours give furniture an exclusive feel with style and character. The drawer sides of the DWD XP and the minimalist, straight-line version DWD XP Agantis, are available in standard heights of 95 mm and 127 mm. There are a number of different add-on systems for DWD XP and DWD XP Agantis to allow a maximum of individual design solutions. DWD XP Agantis is available with Top glass side elements and rectangular railing. DWD XP can be fitted with these two add-ons and also with round railings and Duowing and Variowing. Duowing is a compact storage solution with solid steel side elements and Variowing is an add-on system for more storage space and a range of design options due to the free choice of materials. Matching dividing and organising systems, which make the best possible use of the available storage space, complement these drawer systems. They are made from top-quality materials, in a timeless design, and harmonise perfectly with the drawer system. A range of opening systems is available, particularly for handle-free furniture, that provides additional convenience to customers. Tipmatic Plus is a mechanical opening solution which only needs a gentle tap anywhere on the front of the drawer to open it gently and evenly. The full extension drawer slide opens the drawer to its maximum, thus giving convenient access to its contents. Thanks to its Page 11

13 catch function, Tipmatic Plus then locks the drawer again when it is closed. In combination with the Sensomatic electro-mechanical opening system, DWD XP guarantees maximum convenience. Thanks to its automatic touch-sensitive function, a gentle trigger is enough to start the drawer movement. The action is even, precise and elegant, and can be triggered from anywhere on the front surface. When the drawer is closed, the Soft-close damping system ensures a gentle and silent closing action. The system is particularly useful for handle-free furniture but it can also be used on drawers with handles to assist the movement. With DWD XP, furniture makers can select a solution which is exactly right for enhancing their models with the most attractive added value. Because for GRASS, nothing but the best will do. Page 12
