21 There are now 1.64 million digital tech jobs in the UK, and the digital sector is creating jobs 2X faster than the non digital sector Google has announced plans to hire more than 3,000 staff in the UK, The planned expansion of their King s Cross campus in London, would leave it employing 7,000 in London by 2020, making it the biggest development outside the US.
22 There are many predictions about robots stealing our jobs. It has been predicted that by 2050, 40% of jobs will be automated, with all industries affected. How can we prepare the future work force, for the jobs of tomorrow?

25 English, Maths and Digital Skills The House of Lords Digital Skills Committee previously called on the future governments to address the growing shortage of young people capable of filling jobs in the technology sector by making digital literacy the third core subject alongside literacy and numeracy. The report makes it clear that our approach to educating people of all ages needs a radical rethink, Nicky Morgan said. From an early age we need to give digital literacy as much importance as numeracy and literacy.
26 Primary School Computing Computing was added to the Primary School curriculum in The first students exposed to the new curriculum are now in year 8. Therefore they could be in our College classrooms in 2020/2021.
27 A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. 28 Key stage 1 (Age 5-7 years) Pupils should be taught to: understand what algorithms are, how they are implemented as programs on digital devices, and that programs execute by following precise and unambiguous instructions create and debug simple programs use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content recognise common uses of information technology beyond school use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies
