Well construction is becoming more complex as wells are being drilled in deeper water, high pressure/high temperature environments, as well as more environmentally sensitive locations. Fluid design needs to consider all facets of a well construction, including overcoming various wellbore stability issues, maintaining well integrity, minimising formation damage to maximise productivity and reducing overall environmental impact. A correctly designed drilling fluid will assist the well engineer in delivering the well within technical limits and under budget. WORKSHOP OVERVIEW This workshop will focus on the technical advancements of drilling and completion fluids in complex wells, as well as reviewing current and future drilling waste management technology. The objectives of the workshop are to: Review advancements in fluid design and well surveillance for deepwater and HPHT wells, and learn about relevant case histories Provide an understanding about the latest technology and fluid designs for minimising formation damage, optimising production in complex well/completions and maximising drilling performance Review the latest innovative technologies in prevention and mitigation of lost circulation and application of wellbore strengthening solutions Update on the various drilling waste management technologies used to minimise environmental footprint and save costs by treating waste onsite Review current drilling waste management and solids control practices and technology, advantages and limitations, and discuss the future requirements for cuttings treatment and disposal in increasingly stringent and diverse discharge environments WHO SHOULD ATTEND This workshop will professional involved in drilling and completions, operators, service companies and academicians who are interested in learning about new technologies, relevant industry challenges and achievements. This session will discuss leading edge fluid designs and fluid innovations to take the next step forward Coffee Break Session 4: Advancements in Deepwater/HPHT Fluids Session Chairs: Iain Mitchell, Llyod s Register Energy - Drilling; Paul Tipton, Petrofac Deepwater and HPHT drilling present significant challenges to drilling fluid performance in areas such as rheology profile, thermal stability and gas hydrate inhibition. Logistics and hydraulics modelling can also be a challenge. This session looks at the technologies that are being implemented to address these challenges Session 5: Interactive Poster Session Session Chair: Phillip Moses, Chevron Phillips Chemical Asia Pte. Drilling fluid composition and properties have profound effects on drilling performance. In knowing this, we design the best fluids for drilling our well in the safest and most efficient manner. Modern well designs (extended reach, horizontal, etc.) require re-examining the role of fluids to maximise drilling results.

Bhd. Improvements in drilling waste handling and treatment are often driven by environmental regulations. This session will discuss how existing and new legislation is affecting the industry, with a focus on recent advancements made in solids control and drilling waste management Lunch Session 9: Loss Circulation Material Do We Have the Solution for Every Challenge? Session Chairs: Muhamad Aizat, PETRONAS; Max Wang, Sharp- Rock This session focuses on advanced proven technologies and practices in various drilling environments for preventive and remedial lost circulation solutions that can form seals independent of formation permeability. Related tool features pertaining to pumping LCM through drilling BHA will also be discussed Coffee Break Session 10: Formation Damage Minimisation (Production Optimisation) Understanding formation alterations and rock/fluid/fluid interactions during drilling and completion reduces operational risk and helps minimise the impact on optimal production or injection. This session will examine some of the advancements and new approaches being taken to minimise damage Session 11: Workshop Summary by Co-Chairpersons 1830 Workshop Concludes Poster Solicitation and Information All participants are encouraged to prepare a poster for the Workshop. Presentations on both research and field experience are welcomed. Posters, including unconfirmed/partial results, are to be presented at an assigned time and are open for discussion. Posters will be on display for the entire Workshop period. When preparing your poster: Avoid commercialism. No mention of trademarks/product name Poster size should be approximately 0.8m x 1.2m (W x H) or size A0 in portrait layout Identify topic by title, presenter, affiliation, address, and phone number Include a brief abstract that summarises the technology to be addressed Make the display as self-explanatory as possible Place the information in sequence; beginning with the main idea or problem, method used, results, etc. (Draw a plan keeping the size and number of illustrations in mind) Keep illustrations simple by using charts, graphs, drawings, and pictures to create interest and visually explain a point Use contrasting colours Use large print for narrative materials. Work in progress, new ideas, and interesting projects are sought. Note-taking by participants is encouraged. However, to ensure free and open discussions, no formal records will be kept. Workshop Deliverables: The committee will prepare a full report containing highlights of the Workshop discussions. This report will be circulated to all attendees. PowerPoint presentation materials will be posted on a specific SPE URL site and made available to attendees after the Workshop. Provision of the materials by discussion leaders will signify their permission for SPE to do so. Commercialism: In keeping with the Workshop objectives and the SPE mission, excessive commercialism in posters or presentations will not be permitted. Company logos must be limited to the title slide and used only to indicate the affiliation of the presenter and others involved in the work. Attendance Certificate: All attendees will receive an attendance certificate attesting to their participation at the Workshop. This certificate will be provided in exchange for a completed Workshop Attendee Survey Form. Continuing Education Units: This Workshop qualifies for SPE Continuing Education Units (CEU) at the rate of 0.1 CEU per hour of the Workshop. Transportation/Visa: Attendees are advised to book their international / domestic airline tickets early from their country to Malaysia. All travelers to Malaysia must be in possession of passports valid for at least six (6) months with proof of onward passage, either return, or through tickets. Contact your local travel agent for information on visa requirements to Malaysia before your departure. Dress Code: Casual clothing is recommended. The Workshop atmosphere is informal.
