3 Eco-Statements activities The main objective of EDA is to develop A/C technologies reducing environmental impacts during out of operation phases of the A/C lifecycle How to quantify environmental benefits brought by these new technologies? By performing Eco-statements in a comparison mode What do we need? Streamlined LCA methodology Environmental data: Creation of an aerospace Database Life Cycle Assessment Tools: Development of tools Completed

4 Aerospace Environmental database Objectives: Build common consolidated aerospace database based on the ILCD* format including data collected from partners on current and future technologies throughout the project Current baseline processes New processes/ technologies Completed 21 processes Across 8 partners 77 technologies/processes Across 13 partners Example of Environmental data gathered on technologies: Energy consumed, Emission to air, waste, Hazardous materials used,... * ILCD : International reference Life Cycle Data system

5 Develop Life Cycle Assessment Tools Two LCA tools under development (based on the database under creation): - EcoSky GaBi based tool simplified and advanced versions Completed - LEAF Simplified LCA tool developed by Airbus and Bio-Intelligence Completed - Environmental Metrics - Warnings on aspects of concern

6 Realisation of Eco-statements Technology level What do we want to do? Compare new technologies to current technologies How? By performing Eco-statements using the tools on: A part with current technologies VS A part with new technologies What else do we need? We need details on the parts such as: - Materials used on the part - Manufacturing and Assembly processes used - Design information (weight, dimension,...)

9 Eco-Design Guideline Goal: to develop a guideline in order to optimize the aircraft design, production, and end of life phases from an overall environmental perspective 3 topics under development: Web tool - quick check tool for designers Eco-design label Requirements list

10 Eco-Design Guideline Quick check program for designers (web tool): To develop design guidelines covering design, materials choice, dismantling, re-use, recycling, disposal recommendation Materials options Postconsumer recommendation

11 Eco-Design label: Eco-Design Guideline Preparation of a document that provides a guideline for quantifying the life cycle environmental impact of aircraft Complying with principles set in ISO type III Eco-Label on modularity and comparability Requirements list: Analysis on current legislations, link to Eco-Design activities in aviation industry, and way forward with possible recommendations
