1 CALL TO ARTISTS Cape Cod Healthcare s New Emergency Centers at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital OVERVIEW The Cape Cod Healthcare Gifts of Art Program in collaboration with Woringer Art & Design is seeking Cape Cod-based artists to submit artworks to be considered for permanent placement in patient treatment areas of the newly constructed emergency centers scheduled for completion in spring of Project Description Cape Cod Healthcare is incorporating original art and reproductions throughout the multi-million dollar emergency center expansions at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital. Works by regional artists will be featured throughout both facilities. Inspired by the beauty of our natural environment, the objective of the Gifts of Art Program is to build on Cape Cod Healthcare s permanent art collection that enhances healing and well-being through positivity, creativity, and tranquility. With excellence as the goal, the future collection of the emergency centers will emphasize art and artists throughout Cape Cod. It is anticipated that multiple works by individual artists will be selected and, in some cases, may be displayed in a series of four pieces. Works should be available unframed as framing will be standardized per program specifications. Additionally, some artworks may be reproduced onto acrylic. About the Emergency Centers Eligibility: Artists from the Cape Cod area Application Deadline: January 10, 2015 Acceptance Notification: February 16, 2015 Delivery Date: March April 2015 Location: Cape Cod Healthcare s Emergency Centers at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA and at Falmouth Hospital, Falmouth, MA The emergency departments at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital were designed to accommodate an annual combined patient volume of 80,000 (55,000 and 25,000, respectively). In 2012, however, Cape Cod Healthcare s two emergency centers treated more than 133,000 patients (92,000 patients at Cape Cod Hospital and 41,000 patients at Falmouth Hospital). Add two visitors or family members to accompany each patient, and volumes escalate to nearly 400,000 individuals annually, which is almost double the year-round population of Cape Cod. In order to maintain the highest standards of patient care delivery, Cape Cod Healthcare has committed to building two new emergency centers that will enhance the level of care for which we are nationally recognized. The overall concept for both emergency centers will focus on enhancing our patients' healthcare experience from the moment they arrive. Thoughtful interiors that more closely resemble a hospitality setting will feature natural light and a neutral palette that offers the softest hints of color for a quiet, understated and enriching atmosphere. Design elements, including artworks, reflective of this region s coastal elegance that lives and breathes inspiration from the Cape s natural environment of sand and sea, will help facilitate healing throughout both facilities. Once complete, the new facilities will not only address the current size constraints, but will also provide welcoming, spacious, patient-centered designs, with state-of-the-art technology that enhances the healthcare experience of all our patients. And finally, our emergency department physicians, nurses, and clinical providers will have the advantage of delivering personalized, exceptional care in new facilities that reflect our commitment to clinical excellence and patient satisfaction. Emergency Center Exam Rooms The Cape Cod Healthcare Gifts of Arts Program Cape Cod Healthcare is committed to supporting the Cape s cultural community by continually investing in artworks by local artists. In 2006, Cape Cod Healthcare formalized its Gifts of Art Program with the addition of the 120-bed inpatient addition at Cape Cod Hospital. The Marion G. and Stephen P. Mugar Building showcases vibrant visual arts primarily by Cape Cod artists, including many original pieces as well as giclée reproductions. Today, Cape Cod Healthcare s Gifts of Art Program includes an expansive permanent art collection, several rotating galleries, and artworks loaned by artists, art collectors, galleries and museums. The permanent collection includes many pieces generously donated by artists and benefactors, as well as those purchased directly by Cape Cod Healthcare for specific capital projects, renovations and expansions. The Gifts of Art Program is managed and administered by the Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation located at 32 Main Street, Hyannis. Cape Cod Healthcare is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. 3 CRITERIA FOR ARTWORKS Coastal elegance is a refined style that lives and breathes inspiration from the Cape s natural environment of sand and sea. The palette is soft with hints of color that promotes a quiet, understated and enriching atmosphere. Artworks should fit in with and/or represent this theme, including: Contemporary and abstract style original artworks, including minimalist and non-figurative imagery Preference is given to "contemporary" interpretations of nature rather than realistic landscapes Photography that has a contemporary essence Abstracts that have beautiful colors and represent the coastal elegant theme and spirit Imagery could be of a section of the original work of art High-resolution scans of original art are required. Media submitted should reproduce well on acrylic. Submittal Requirements Cape Cod Healthcare will be responsible for reproducing and framing all artworks. Please submit digital images (with a resolution of not less than 300 d.p.i., preferably in jpg format), an annotated image sheet including dimensions and prices on up to ten specific works that are currently available for sale. Please select works that you feel are most representative of the coastal elegant theme as indicated above. Works must be represented in horizontal format. Two options for final sizing include 16 x 20 or 18 x 24, not exceed 22 x 30. Please include: Artist s statement regarding proposed artworks relation to the coastal elegant theme A professional resume Up to ten works available for consideration The images must be in.jpg format An annotated image list that includes title, medium, dimensions and price Art submissions will not be considered for purchase without this information. Artist Recognition and Compensation Each selected artwork will be labeled with the title, the artist s name and address (or other contact information) A gallery notebook will be available at each emergency center with artist contact information and supporting materials Selected artists will receive an honorarium of $200 Selection Process Finalists will be selected upon review of their submitted qualifications and works. The artwork will be juried by members of the Gifts of Art Committee and reviewed and approved by the Project Oversight Committee for acquisition. Cape Cod Healthcare reserves the right to reject all submittals and to cancel this call to artists. Cape Cod Healthcare reserves the right to reject a selection based on visual inspection of that work. The final selection is wholly within the discretion of Cape Cod Healthcare.
