3 John Wooten John Wooten was born on December 5, 1936 in Riverview, Texas, and attended Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, New Mexico and is a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado with a Bachelor of Science Degree; and When the Cleveland Browns selected John Wooten in the 1959 National Football League (NFL) Draft, it proved to be one of the most important drafts in Cleveland Browns history. He played for the Cleveland Browns from and then the Washington Redskins from and during the off seasons from , he wasa junior high school teacher at Addison Junior High School in Cleveland, Ohio; and John has been involved with the NFL for 44 years and served as Director of Pro Sports Advisors (Agent for Professional Athletes ); Player Personnel (Cowboys ); Director of Pro Personnel (Cowboys ); Creator/Director of Player Programs (NFL ) Player Personnel (Eagles ); Vice President Player Personnel (Eagles ); Assistant Director ofpro/collegescouting (Ravens ), Consultant-Player Personnel (Ravens until he retired in 2004) and is President of Wooten Printing, Inc. in Dallas, Texas; and John is considered the "Architect of the NFL 's Rooney Rule" and his on-thefield honors include, Associated Press All-Big Seven; All American Honors at Offensive Guard at the University of Colorado in 1958; named to the Chicago Tribune's College All Star Game in 1959; Sporting News NFL All Star Team in 1965; named to the NFL Pro Bowl teams in 1966 and 1967; Cleveland Browns All-Time All Star Team, named to University of Colorado's All Century Football Team; inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame Inductee in 2002; Hall of Fame inductee with the University of Colorado in October 2004; Honored Jersey with the University of Colorado in September 2005; and has three World Championships- Browns -1964, Cowboys and Ravens in 2000; and John has a deep commitment to the community he has lived in and understands the value of giving back. 4 - JUAN CASTILLO Juan Castillo a native of Port Isabel, Texas, is in his 17th season with the Philadelphia Eagles and was named defensive coordinator on February 2, 2011, after spending the last 13 years as the team's offensive line coach; and Mr. Castillo began his amateur football career as a linebacker with Texas A&M-Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I) and the United States Football League's San Antonio Gunslingers; and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater before spending on the staff at Kingsville (TX) High School; and his work as an offensive line coach at Texas A&M caught the eye of former Eagles coach Ray Rhodes' who recruited him on March 1, 1995 as an offensive assistant, a post he held until being promoted to tight ends coach in One year later, Castillo became the club's offensive line coach; and Juan Castillo credits his mother Juanita for inspiring his strong work ethic, desire to succeed and give back to others; and is highly regarded in the world of professional football and known for cultivating a strong foundation for linemen and a penchant for developing undrafted players into solid NFL Starters; and Juan Castillo is proud to be one of a few coaches in the National Football League of Hispanic descent, and has done work for the NFL in promoting the game for its Spanish-speaking audience; and Mr. Castillo will be honored at the 20th Almiversary of the Urban Football Coaches Association with their First Almual John Wooten Award; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Los Angeles City Council honors Juan Castillo for his many years of dedicated service and commitment to the Philadelphia Eagles, and for the strong impact he has made on the men nuder his tutelage, and wishes him continued success.
