1 PRESS RELEASE MARION HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF DISTINCTION The purpose of the Marion High School Hall of Distinction is to give lasting recognition to Marion High School graduates who have made exceptional contributions to the achievements and prestige of Marion Community Schools. Furthermore, it is the purpose of the Hall of Distinction to promote more interest in Marion High School and to display before current Marion students, the success of past graduates who have contributed in making Marion schools exceptional. The Marion High School Hall of Distinction selection committee has chosen the Class of 2008 inductees. The selection task was difficult, as nearly 60 highly talented and capable nominees were considered. Nominees not selected continue to be considered for three years. A call for new nominations will be made annually. The Hall of Distinction induction ceremony will take place on June 6th at 6:00 p.m. at the Roseburg Event Center, 2983 W. 38 th St., Marion, IN Tickets can be purchased through the Superintendent s Office located at the Education Service Center, 1240 S. 2 Nancy H. Teeters, Class of 1948 Fiscal economist Nancy Hays Teeters received her B.A. in economics from Oberlin College in 1952 and her M.A. in economics from the University of Michigan in From 1957 to 1966 she served as a staff economist for the Federal Reserve Board s Government Finance Section. Mrs. Teeters was on the President s Council of Economic Advisors in 1962 and was the in-house expert on the Kennedy-Johnson tax cut proposal. In 1970 she joined the Brookings Institution as a research associate. She co-authored with Charles L. Schultze, Edward R. Fried, and Alice M. Rivlin the Brookings studies, Setting National Priorities, a highly regarded analyses of the Federal budget. In 1974, Mrs. Teeters joined the staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Budget as its chief economist. President Jimmy Carter nominated Nancy Hays Teeters in August 1978 to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; she became the first woman to sit on the Board in the history of the Federal Reserve. In July 1984, Mrs. Teeters joined IBM as Director of Economics; in March 1986, she became the second woman to be named a Vice President at IBM. 3 Mr. Jim Sutter, Class of 1952 While in high school, Mr. Sutter participated in the Latin and Spanish clubs, Hi-Y Club, intramural basketball and orchestra. Mr. Sutter was the concert Master and played 1 st violin. One of his mentors was Lloyd Dacosta Jones, his orchestra instructor. Mr. Sutter started a scholarship at IWU in Mr. Jones honor for students pursuing a career in music. Mr. Sutter studied business at Indiana University and he operated the family dairy business, Sutter s Dairy, in Marion until He grew a convenience store business, Handy Andy Foods, into a multimillion dollar operation. He has served on several boards and commissions, including the YMCA Board of Directors, Boys Club Board of Directors, and Fidelity Federal Savings Bank. His leadership roles have ranged from President of the Marion Boys Club to Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce to President of the City s Economic Development Commission. He also served one term on the Grant County Council. Mr. Sutter has been instrumental in the restoration of the Coliseum to house the new YMCA of Marion. He has also been a supporter of the Grant County Humane Society. He is a humble and quiet philanthropist who continues to do his good deeds behind the scenes.

4 Bill Perry, Class of 1969 Mr. Perry received his B.S. degree from the United States Military Academy and a Masters of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School. He also has a Master of Science in Systems Management from The University of Southern California. He serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Council, an organization of Senior African American Executives in the U.S. as well as on the Board of Advisors of the Association of Graduates of the United States Military Academy, where he is chairman of the Diversity Leadership Council. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the West Point Society of New York. Mr. Perry has a long business career as a general manager in technology and financial services companies. Mr. Perry has held several positions with AT&T, Lucent Technologies, CIGNA Group Insurance and IBM.

5 Don Tillman, Class of 1957 A 1957 Graduate of Marion High School, Mr. Tillman went on to higher education at Indiana University and Northwestern University. He began his professional career, at WMRI Radio in Marion, and later was one of the creators of WTAF-TV Channel 31, Marion's first television station. After a stop at WQAD-TV in Moline, Illinois, he became Station Manager in Charge of Programming and Production for WTTV in Indianapolis. Mr. Tillman was responsible for making WTTV one of the top and most respected television stations in the country. In 1981 he managed KTTV in Los Angeles and Metro Media Studios in HOLLYWOOD. Mr. Tillman was responsible for the production facilities for such shows as All in The Family, Family Ties, Facts of Life, Married with Children, the Simpsons and he also created the long running Fox show Comic Strip Live. His many accolades in his career, include four EMMY Awards, Gold Medals from International Film Festivals, five Telly Awards, six Angel Awards and two International Olympic Media Awards. His most prized award, The Sagamore of the Wabash, presented by Governor Otis Bowen for the nine year production of the Governor's television program Report From The Statehouse. During his time in HOLLYWOOD, he served two terms as Chairman of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Currently he is one of the nine Trustees of the World Famous "Hollywood Sign", a Director of the William H. Parker Foundation of the Los Angeles Police Department and Executive Director of Television for the University of Southern California. Don has been married to Dianne Nelson Tillman, "Class of "59", since 1965, they have two children, Donna and Jeff, three grandchildren and another on the way.

6 David L. Joyce, Class of 1962 While in high school, Mr. Joyce played football, basketball and baseball, earning a total of 10 varsity letters. He was also Vice President of his Senior Class and was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Senate. He was honored in 1983 by Marion High School with its inaugural Outstanding Alumni Award along with 11 others. After high school, he went on to graduate in 1966 from DePauw University. He did his graduate work at the University of Illinois in Labor and Industrial Relations. After college, Mr. Joyce was hired by the St. Louis Football Cardinals and worked for them from 1967 to In 1970, at age 26, he became the youngest Business Manager in the history of the National Football League. Mr. Joyce went on to be a co-founder of a health care company which contracted with hospitals to create new physician groups and then manage them. He and his two partners sold the company in 1979, but stayed on for five more years and built it to $100 million in annual revenue with over 150 hospital clients nationwide, over 200 employees and approximately 2,000 physicians. He subsequently built several other health care companies and sold them. He started yet another healthcare physician staffing and management company in 2001 and today already is doing $50 million in annual revenue and is doubling in size about every 12 to 15 months. All the companies Mr. Joyce has founded have been unique with great foresight and on the cutting edge of the physician practice management industry. He is considered one of the foremost health care experts in the country in the field of physician group formation and management. Mr. Joyce has lectured with MBA programs at St. Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis, MO and at Duke University s MBA program. He also was a member of the DePauw Alumni Board of Directors for 8 years. He currently resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

7 David A. Fisher, MD, Class of 1973 Dr. Fisher is an orthopaedic surgeon currently practicing in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from Marion High School in 1973, where he was a multiple year letterman in swimming and tennis. A graduate of DePauw University and a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Fisher went on to complete his internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and his Orthopaedic residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He also completed a fellowship in joint implant surgery at St. Anthony Hospital, Columbus, OH. Dr. Fisher s current hospital affiliations include Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital, Clarian North Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Community Hospitals and St. Vincent Hospitals, all of which are located in Indianapolis, IN. He has an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery (Indiana University School of Medicine), and he is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Indiana Orthopaedic Society, the American Medical Association, the Mid-America Orthopaedic Society, and the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Fisher has been involved in clinical research and teaching for 20 years, lecturing both nationally and internationally, and has had numerous publications. He has also been involved in the development of total hip and knee prosthetic implant systems, which are currently in use around the world for people suffering from arthritis. He was the Director of the Joint Implant Service at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis from 1988 to 2006, and currently is the Medical Director of the Total Joint Center for Excellence at the Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital. Dr. Fisher is the pastpresident of OrthoIndy, one of the largest orthopaedic practices in the country, and has served on several Boards and Foundations. He currently resides in Fishers, Indiana with is wife, Kathy Kiley Fisher (also a 1973 MGH graduate), and their 3 children.
