1 Baltic Anklet By Rachel Russ The Baltic Anklet socks give a delicate peek of colorwork to show off how unique you are. European design influences creep into this sock but not the difficulty factor of most traditional folk socks. Knit from the top down on dpn s, turning the sock inside out before moving onto the leg creates this fold down picot edged cuff. Mix up the color palette for your own Baltic Anklet pair. MATERIALS TENSION/GAUGE Yarn: 4ply/Fingering weight Approx CC1 35 metres/38 Yards,CC2 18 metres/20 yards, MC 225 metres/246 yards Shown In: Spud & Chloe Fine Sock (65 grammes = 227 metres/248 yards, 80% Superwash Wool/20% Silk) CC1 Lipstick 7810, CC2 Calypso 7806, MC Sidewalk 7822: 1 skein of each Needles: 2.75mm/US 2 dpns or size needle to obtain gauge 16 sts/ 20 rows = 5cm/2 in stocking stitch worked in the round SIZE Women s medium UK size 5/US size 7 Foot length can easily be reduced/extended Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker

3 STANDARD KNITTING ABBRIEVIATIONS CO Cast on K Knit YO Yarn over RS Right side P- Purl K2tog Knit two stitches together WS -Wrong side M1 - Make one stitch, by picking up the horizontal loop before next stitch and knitting into back of it Fold down cuff P A T T E R N With CC1 cast on 64 sts loosely. Divide these sts evenly on 4 dpns, 16 sts each needle. Join in the round being careful not to twist stitches. PM if desired. Follow Cuff Edge Chart 1. Row 4 is the turning edge row for the picots. Knit Row 8 as follows; k2tog with cast on edge st and st on dpn needle. *Rep for rnd. Rnd 14 begins Color Chart Row 1 with all colors as specified increasing evenly to 72 sts total. Turn working side out: wrong side of knitting now faces you. To hide the hole, begin with Sl 1, K2, p2 in MC for 14 rnds decreasing evenly to 64 sts total in the last rnd. Change to Stockinette Stitch for approximately 2.5 inches or desired length of leg. For a nice anklet length, the patterned cuff length should match stockinette leg length ready to begin heel.

4 Heel flap K16 sts. Turn work. Sl1, p31 sts onto one dpn for heel. The remaining sts on 2 dpns rest for instep which is half of the total stitches. Working back and forth on heel sts only with RS facing, Row 1: *Sl1, k1, rep from * across. Row 2: Sl1, purl to end. Rep these 2 rows 15 times more for a total of 32 heel rows or 16 chain edge sts. End ready to start RS row. Turn the heel Set up Row 1: Sl1, k 16, ssk, k1, turn. Row 2: Sl1, p 3, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 3: Sl1, k to 1 st before gap, ssk, k1, turn. Row 4: Sl1, p to 1 st before gap, p2tog, p1, turn. Rep Rows 3 and 4 until all side sts are worked ending on RS with 18 sts. Using another dpn, pick up 14 sts on right side of heel flap. K across instep sts. Using another dpn pick up 14sts on left side of heel flap 14 then knit across the first 9 heel sts. Put remaining 9 heel sts on left dpn. This dpn is now the BOR. (Beginning of Round) Dpn #1 23 sts Dpn #2 16 sts Dpn #3 16 sts Dpn #4 23 sts Gusset Rnd 1: Dpn #1 k to last 2 sts k2tog. Dpn #2 k. Dpn #3 k. Dpn #4 ssk, k to end of rnd. Rnd 2: K Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until st count is back to original 64 sts.

5 Foot Continue in Stockinette Stitch until desired length approximately 2 inches less of total length needed. Round toe Rnd 1: Dpn #1 K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Dpn #2 K1, ssk, k to end of needle. Dpn #3 K to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Dpn #4 K1, ssk, k to end of needle. Rnd 2: K Rep rnds 1 and 2 until 32 sts total, then Rep rnd 1 to 8 sts total. Finishing Break yarn, using darning needle gather toe sts through twice puling tight and weave ends. Block on sock blockers if desired.
