The recent corrosion-related pipeline failures have been highly visible in the news and now the U.S. Government is holding individual personnel including non-management technical personnel criminally responsible for ensuring safe operation of pipelines. In the PIPES Act, that responsibility is clearly placed on the senior leadership within operator companies. It is imperative that we begin thinking about the role of the corrosion professional in ensuring pipeline integrity and the potential liability.
