Innocence By: Hali F, Tim L, Drake S, and Nathan M. Scene 1 Narrator: The sound of sleep filled the entire Sanchez house on this beautiful spring night. Disturbance had no intention what so ever to interrupt during this time of peacefulness. That was until there was a creek in the floor. CREEEEEKKKKK!!! Jessica: Hnmmm! (as she yawns and wipes her eyes) who s there? Frank: Shhh! You re going to wake everyone else up! Jessica: What are you doing in my room? Frank: Come on honey bee, I m going through a lot right now and I really need your help. Jessica: Oh no! Please Dad, no! Don t do it! What have I done wrong this time? Frank: You haven t done anything wrong (he whispers as he kneels to one knee) you re my little princess and you do this because you love daddy right? Jessica: Yes I love you dad, but why do you choose to keep on hurting me? (As she lays her face into the palms of her hands) Frank: It helps me in a way you will never understand, now let s get it over with. Narrator: What didn t last very long hurt young Jessica the most? She just could not understand why her only father would do such a thing to hurt her. Jessica lay in her dark room on the bed all night crying and talking to God. Jessica: Why God?! Why is it me that he has to fulfill his terrible needs with? I m hurt so bad and it seems like he would rather get an issue off than caring about his own daughter s safety. Please make that be the last time he ever does that to me again! I ask you for forgiveness for my dad, he didn t mean it. In Jesus name Amen! Scene 2 Narrator: The next day Jessica had awaken to go to school, still
Narrator: The next day Jessica had awaken to go to school, still a little shaken up from the night before; she still managed to pull through. She made it all the way to 5 th hour Geology class, and then she came face to face with her best friend Grace. It didn t take long before grace noticed something was wrong. Grace: Hey Jess are you ok? You seem like you re having a bad day! Jessica: (she says very nervous like) Oh! Me? Yes im perfectly fine, why would you ask that? Do I look bad or something, because I feel great! Grace: Jessica Sanchez, No you look horrible and you re not fooling anyone, especially me! What s wrong with you? Jessica: Really? You can tell? (Sighs) Hugh! I am having the worst day of my life Grace, something so terrible happened to me last night and I don t know what to do about it! Grace: Yea, I figured something happened because you haven t been acting like yourself all day! So tell me what happened to you last night? Jessica: You have to promise not to tell anyone what im about to tell you ok! Grace: Yes, have I ever broken a promise?! Now tell me! Jessica: Pinky! Grace: I pinky promise cross my heart hope to die I won t tell Jessica: Ok, so it was really late at night and everyone was sleeping, that is until I heard this loud creek in the wooden floor. It sounded like someone was walking outside my door in the hall way and it happened to be my dad. He came into my room and he (She starts to cry) He made me! He made me Grace! Grace: He made you what Jessica? Jessica: He told me it would be ok and I was a good girl for helping him! He raped me! Grace: Oh no! Why, why would he do that to you? Oh my gosh Jessica! Have you told anyone else? Jessica: No Grace! That s my own dad and what do you think people would say if they found out about this? Grace: It doesn t matter if he is your dad Jessica; he hurt you in a way that deserves to be punished. Jessica: You promised you wouldn t tell anyone! Please don t. Grace: I won t tell anybody trust me! (As she crosses her
Grace: I won t tell anybody trust me! (As she crosses her fingers behind her back) Narrator: After hearing these shocking words come out of her best friend s mouth, Grace felt it was her job to do something about it. She had to tell someone and as soon as possible before it happened again. So Grace went straight to Jessica s next closest family member, her mother! This is when the tables turned. Scene 3 (Grace walks into Jessica s mother s room) Grace: Hey Trace do you have a second? Tracy: Yea Grace what s going on? Grace: Um the other day Jessica looked upset and down at school and she told me something so important that I think you should know about! Tracy: Yes, what did she tell you? (As she crosses her arms) Grace: Well we both were at school and she I noticed that she looked like she had been having a bad day, so I asked her what was wrong and she tried to avoid it, but soon broke down to me. Tracy: So what was bothering her? Grace: Trace, I know you re not going to want to believe what she told me, but she told me that Frank had raped her Tracy: (Putting her hands on the side of her head) WHAT!? I can t believe this. Did she go into detail at all? Grace: Yes, she actually gave me all the details of that night. Tracy: Did she tell you when it happened? Grace: Yes, it happened two nights ago around 2:00 a.m. Tracy: Alright so what all did she say? Grace: She said that Frank went into her room and started shaking her trying to wake her up. After he woke her up she asked him why he was in her room. He told her to be quiet because everyone else was sleeping. She told him she didn t want it to happen again. Apparently Frank told her the she was his princess and it was helping him become a better father. After he raped her she said she was laying there in bed crying asking God why this had to happen to her and how she didn t want that to happen to her ever again. Jessica made me pinky promise her that I wouldn t tell anyone else.
that I wouldn t tell anyone else. Narrator: Tracy is in shock and is crying Tracy: I can t believe he would do such a thing, I m going to have to have you leave, but I m going to have to talk to Frank about it. Grace: I m sorry I had to be the one to tell you. Tracy: It s alright it s not your fault Grace. I appreciate you telling me otherwise who knows how long this would keep going on for. Grace: Just don t tell Jessica that I was the one to tell you because she would be very upset with me since I pinky promised her that I wouldn t tell anyone. Tracy: Of course I won t Grace Scene 4 Narrator: Jessica mother is astonished and doesn t believe anything until she sits Jessica down in front of her. Tracy is standing in the kitchen when Jessica walks by. Tracy: Jessica, come here for a second. Jessica: Alright what do you want? Tracy: Has something been bothering you lately? Jessica: No not really why do you ask? Tracy: You have been looking down the last few days, are you sure nothing s wrong? Jessica: No Mom, I m totally fine! Where is this all coming from? Tracy: Grace told me what happened Jessica: What?! (Starts to get emotional) Tracy: Why didn t you come and tell me right away baby? Jessica: He didn t mean it mom! It only happened that one time. Tracy: What do you mean he didn t mean it? Are you crazy that is your father! (As she slaps the table) Jessica: I know, I just didn t know how to tell you. I m sorry! (Crying) Tracy: I can t believe what I m hearing right now, this shouldn t be true! Why God!! Narrator: Tracy still in shock with what she heard come out of her only daughter s mouth. She excused Jessica from her presence and took about a good two hours to think to herself.
presence and took about a good two hours to think to herself. Tracy knew what she had to do next and that was to confront her husband about it. Scene 5 Tracy: (Walks into room while dads sitting reading paper) Hey Frank Frank: Hey honey, how s your day? Tracy: I have to talk to you about something. Jessica has been acting really weird lately, has she talked to you about anything? Frank: She has been telling me that she has been having trouble in school, and with some of her friends. Why do you ask, what has she told you? Tracy: She just came and talked to me about an hour ago. (Long pause, as she stares at him and Frank avoiding eye contact) she says you have been going into her room late at night & waking her up. Frank: Well yeah I have just been checking on her. I have had these horrible nightmares about her for the past couple of days, & it worries me. So I just have to check and see if she s okay just for my satisfaction. (He says nervously) Tracy: Jessica told me what you have been doing to her Frank: What?! What did she I was doing to her? Tracy: She said that you have been sneaking up into her room at night and telling her that you love her, and that everything would be alright, she was telling me how you would make her do things for you to please yourself, did you rape my baby girl? (Gets interrupted) Frank: OK! (As he puts his head down) Tracy I have something to tell you. Tracy: What do you need to tell me Frank? Frank: Well, when I was younger around the age of 10 my father hurt me. Tracy: What do you mean? Frank: He hurt me in a way that I would never forgive him and still don t until this day. I ve never told anybody this; have been holding it to myself for 20 or more years now. Tracy: Well can you tell me how he hurt you though? Frank: He would do the terrible things you would never think a
Frank: He would do the terrible things you would never think a [parent would do to their child, he raped me! Tracy: (Sitting astonished and speechless) uh! I am so sorry Frank; I don t understand why he would do that to you! Why? Why, would you do it to our baby girl if it hurt you so much? Frank: I don t know! (Starts to cry) That s all I ve ever known! I m so sorry! I m sorry. Tracy: I don t know what to say or do. You hurt my baby, that s my seed you carelessly tortured because of your past and needs! I can t have you living in this house anymore or around my child Frank. Frank: Please Tracy I won t ever do it again! I will do anything, I m sorry. Scene 6 Narrator: Jessica gets home from school to her parents sitting silently in the living room. Jessica: Hey, what s going on in here? Tracy: Jessica your father has a problem he Narrator: gets interrupted Frank: Baby I m sorry, there are things that happened to me when I was little, which I just can t explain to you. You know I love you with all my heart, and I wouldn t hurt you on purpose...i tried to stop myself, but I couldn t. Something inside me just told me to keep going. I feel horrible for what I have done and I will go get help I swear. You know I don t mean to hurt you, you re my baby. Jessica: I don t think you meant to, but you hurt me, I don t know what to think of you anymore. It doesn t seem safe that you can t help it, I don t think I want to live with you anymore, you scare me daddy. Frank: But baby you know I love you (Gets up and walks towards her) Tracy: Frank stop! Frank: So this is how it s going to be now? I can t even get close to my baby girl anymore? Because I made this one mistake? Tracy: Yes Frank that s how it is, I can t trust you being around Jessica anymore. I don t feel that she is safe under the same roof
Jessica anymore. I don t feel that she is safe under the same roof as you. Frank: What are you saying, you want me to leave? Tracy: Yes frank I want you to leave here and never come back. The way you hurt my baby will never leave my mind. I don t care if you think it s not right, because what you have done is not right. You have destroyed our family and made it a living hell. Please gather your things and be out by tomorrow morning. Frank: I can t believe this is happening. You are kicking me out, after everything I have done for you and I make one mistake? I already told you I would never do it again. Please just give me one more chance I swear to you it will never happen again. I will fix this, I can go get help. Just please don t kick me out forever. Tracy: Frank it has to be this way...i...i need time to think, I can t comprehend everything right now it s all just too much. Please just leave. Narrator: Frank walks up the stairs Scene 7 Tracy: Hey how s it going? Jessica: Pretty good. What you watching? Tracy: Oh nothing just some old reruns of Threes Company. Jessica: Oh (she laughs) Come and knock on our door. We ve been waiting for you. Where the kisses are hers and hers and his, Threes Company too. Tracy: (laughter) how do you know that song? I ve never seen you watch this show. (More laughter) Jessica: I ve watched a few episodes in my lifetime. I m going to bed, goodnight mom. Tracy: goodnight Jess I ll talk to you in the morning. Narrator: The next morning Tracy: Honey are you feeling okay? Jessica: No my stomach has been hurting for like a month or so. Tracy: Ok do we need to go to the doctor or anything? If there is anything I can do to help you don t hesitate to ask. Jessica: Yeah I ve wanted to ask you to take me but your never home. Tracy: Okay well I ll take the next few days off work and call the doctor.
the doctor. Narrator: The next morning Tracy wakes up to the sound of Jessica throwing up in the bathroom. Jessica walks out as Tracy steps out of her bedroom. Tracy: How are you feeling? Do you want some white soda? Jessica: I feel like utter crap right now mom and yes that would be nice. Oh what about some chicken noodle soup too please. Narrator: They enter the living room and Tracy walks into the kitchen. Jessica turns on the television. Tracy walks in with the chicken noodle soup and some white soda. Jessica: Thanks mom I haven t eaten in like two whole days. Tracy: That s not good honey. You should have called me I would have stopped and gotten you some chicken noodle soup on my way home from work. Jessica: Its ok mom I m not too worried about it. Did you call the doctor yet? Tracy: No not yet it s only seven a.m. I ll call at around eight is that all right? Jessica: Yeah that s fine but the sooner the better. (She starts to eat her soup and turns on the television) Narrator: Eight o clock rolls around and Tracy calls the doctor and after some arguing she gets an appointment Tracy: Ok honey your appointment is one fifty. Jessica: Ok I m gonna go take a nap wake me up around noon. Tracy: Ok hope you sleep well. Narrator: Tracy watches TV for a couple of hours she wakes up Jessica and takes her to the doctor. On the way back Tracy could tell something was up but Jessica wouldn t tell her. Tracy: What s wrong Jess? Jessica: (She starts to cry) the doctor did a full physical and I told me I m pregnant. Tracy: Well first of all have you ever had sex? Jessica: No mom not after what happened, and that s the only thing that keeps running through my head. But dads an old man he couldn t possibly have done that, right? Tracy: Well men reproduce their whole lives. I am going to have to have another word with him. Scene 8 Narrator: Later on that day Tracy scheduled an appointment for
Narrator: Later on that day Tracy scheduled an appointment for Jessica to get a pregnancy test. She was put into the round as soon as possible. Doctor: Is Jessica Sanchez present? (He shouted from the office door into the waiting room) Jessica: Yes doctor I am here. Doctor: Well hi there, follow me on back. Narrator: As they walked to the examination room Jessica scoped in every room she passed and saw all of the babies and pregnant mothers. Doctor: Ok have a seat right here Jessica: ok Narrator: The doctor asked Jessica various questions dealing with her past and history. After answering truly she was sent off to the restroom for her urine test. Doctor: (walking into the room) Jessica congratulations you re pregnant! Jessica: (screams in sadness) NOOOO!!! Narrator: After she gets the results and paper work she walks out into the waiting room where her mother was anxiously waiting. Jessica fell to her knees as soon as she stepped in the doorway. Then her mother ran over to comfort her. Tracy: It s going to be ok baby! It s alright, we will take of this situation don t worry.
