1 Call to Artists Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture & Horizon Drive Business Improvement District Grand Junction, Colorado Electric Art THE PROJECT The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture and Horizon Drive Business Improvement District invites artists to compete for a art commission to create art on Traffic Signal Boxes (TSBs) located on Horizon Drive in Grand Junction. This project will brighten city streetscapes, enhance community pride create new, paid opportunities for Colorado-based artists. LOCATIONS This project is for 2 TSBs owned by the City of Grand Junction and located on Horizon Drive and Crossroads Boulevard, and Horizon Drive and G Rd. The TSB s are located in safe environments for artists to work and provide maximum visibility for pedestrians and drivers. THEME Artwork should reflect a local flavor and be representative of the Grand Valley. Ideas include local agriculture, history, industry, attractions, and outdoor recreation. ARTIST S AWARD The total budget per TSB is $1500 and includes all specified materials and labor. TSBs will be prepared for artist s application of design. Artists painting the TSBs will use a three-step process: applying primer, painting the design, and applying the final protective varnish or clear coat. Artists will also be required to paint and seal the TSB concrete bases. Artists must use specified products.

ARTIST ELIGIBILITY Open to individual artists (no group entries) residing in Colorado. All eligible applicants, regardless of age, race, sex, religion, nationality, origin, or disability, will be considered. ARTIST CONTRACT & INSURANCE Artists whose proposals are chosen will be provided with a contract and required to provide a comprehensive general liability insurance policy naming City of Grand Junction as additionally insured.

4 LIFE SPAN OF Artists should understand that the finished works will be on functioning equipment that will need repair or replacing at some point in time. The City can't guarantee duration of each TSB. While this project requires a clear coat, the City can guarantee that damaged or vandalized TSBs will be repaired and the artwork to its original state. Artists must accept the risk that their artwork may be damaged, altered or removed at any time after completion. PROJECT TIMELINE Artists will be expected to paint their TSB between May 1 8, DEADLINE: Wednesday, March 13, by 5:00pm Wednesday, May 1 May 2 8 Application & Model Priming of TSB Painting TSB Decisions will be made Wednesday, March 20 and artists notified. Proposal Description explaining concept and design and how artist proposes to approach this project (1 page maximum) 2. Application including A. Examples of artwork image identification B. Contact information for two references who can speak to your art experience C. Budget 3. Five (5) images illustrating examples of your best works relevant to public or private commissions. DO NOT provide website addresses or links. It is the responsibility of each artist to select the five works which best illustrate your capabilities. 4. Current resume detailing your experience as an artist and any past public art projects. AND 5. Create a MODEL Artist must make a 3-D scale model using the design template provided as a guide for size and proportion. Artists are encouraged to visit the TSB s on 4th & 5th and Main Street. Artists may submit 1 (one) idea only.
