3 Identifying Subterranean Termites There are several species of subterranean termites within the United States. They are found in virtually every state, with the exception of Alaska. The Reticulitermes termites are approximately 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch long, and their bodies can be anywhere from coal block to a yellow brown. Their wings can be smoky gray, pale gray or even brown.
