2 Installed on thousands of single-family and apartment homes... Quick Tie is the smart framing system for uplift and shear loads. A less expensive, better way to frame! Safe and secure engineered system Meets model building codes Install Quick Ties after framing is up Easy to inspect Faster than straps and endless nailing Less expensive than conventional ties Compensates for wood shrinkage by pre-stressing Quick Ties We use Quick Ties on every wood frame we build. It s cheaper, faster, less complicated, and just plain better than the old way. - James A. Malone III Johnson, Graham & Malone The Quick Tie system produces a superior structure because it addresses shrinkage problems it s clean and easy to inspect because all items are visible at inspection! - Manuel Martinez, P.E. Tie down roof framing to the top plate (HA4, MTS12, QGT, SC35) Use Quick Tie(s) at each end of shear walls as hold-downs (QT, QT3) Installation is simple and fast: Space Quick Ties below the uplift loads at 8 on center or less as required by uplift reactions (QT- 1 /4 Quick Tie) Use one Quick Tie at each end of headers as required by load strap the header to the top plate (QT, LS12, MS24) Drill bottom hole through plate and into concrete Drill top hole through the plate Blow out hole with compressed air; brush; blow again Inject epoxy Insert either end of Quick Tie in epoxy and allow to cure Tighten Quick Tie Nail opening straps, hold-downs, and hurricane clips

3 THE QUICK TIE SYSTEM The Quick Tie system installs fast and has been successfully used on thousands of wood structures. The system is installed after the building is framed. Quick Ties eliminate the need for laborintensive straps that bulge drywall, are time-intensive to install, and difficult to inspect. DESIGN FOR UPLIFT 1. Determine the uplift loads at the roof line tie roof framing to the top plates. 2. Layout the Quick Ties below to meet the uplift loads at 8-0 or less, on center, starting at 12 from the corners. Quick Ties can also be used in multi-story structures. 3. Use the Quick Tie spacing table to determine spacing based on uplift loads. DESIGN FOR SHEAR 1. Install Quick Tie(s) (or QHDs) at each end of the shear wall. 2. Install wedge or epoxy anchors in bottom plate of shear walls to resist horizontal shear loads at foundation. 3. For high loads use the Hardy Frame system shown on pages 8 and 9. THE PRE-STRESSING DIFFERENCE This simple system of wire rope and connectors pre-stresses the wood structure. Becase the rope s t r e t c h e s... it can be pre-stressed to produce zero movement and compensate for wood shrinkage! Shrinkage and movement are a common problem with the old method of straps and threaded anchors they re installed before the stucture is loaded. When the building is exposed to dead loads and wind, deflections The old way: an endless trail of nails Call Quick Tie anytime for technical assistance: (800) develop in these products due to shrinkage and compression loads which create a loose load path to the foundation. Loose structural joints allow movement which, in turn, causes the building to be pulled apart until these parts are tight. Quick Ties are flexible and elastic. By pre-stressing to a desired load there will be zero movement until the force applied reaches the pre-stress load. Quick Ties are easy to inspect. If there is a problem, you will detect it beforehand. NOTES 1. Tie all roof framing to the top plates with properly designed connectors (see pages 4-7). Tie down beams and truss girders. 2. Use Quick Tie(s) at each end of header when header length exceeds spacing requirements for Quick Ties, as shown on page Use all the connectors shown and fill all nail holes with specified nails according to tie and connector load tables. 4. Quick Ties must be epoxy-embedded into concrete as shown on pages 10 or Use only the connectors specified in the Quick Tie system and connector load tables. 6. Quick Tie allowable design load with edge distance equal to or greater than 6 = 2,860 lbs. The minimum edge distance required is 2 1 /4. The maximum uplift permitted is 2,860 lbs. When a minimum edge distance of 6 or greater is provided. NOTE: The exact location can change slightly as long as the maximum spacing between any two Quick Ties does not exceed 8 +/-. Therefore, an absolute maximum spacing of 8-6 is acceptable. DESIGN NOTES: 1. Use one Quick Tie within 12 of each load bearing corner (One side of corner preferrably the side where the top plate laps over the other wall.) 2. Use one or two Quick Ties at each end of all shear wall segments. If shear wall is not subject to uplift loads, use only one or two ties (or hold-down) at each end of each shear wall segment. If shear wall is subject to uplift loads, use Quick Ties as specified in table plus one or two ties at each end of each shear wall segment. A QHD2 (conventional hold-down) may be used at shear wall ends when Quick Tie spacing & corner tie-down requirements have been met. 3. Use one Quick Tie at each end of all openings over 8-0 unless truss loads indicate narrower spacing is required. 4. Use specified Quick Tie(s) at concentrated uplift loads of 1400 lbs. or greater. 5. Space all Quick Ties as specified in the table provided for all walls subject to uplift loads. 6. All Quick Ties shall be installed according to these specifications unless designed and certified by a licensed professional engineer or architect. 7. 12 Q1000 EPOXY SYSTEM & ACCESSORIES Q1000 QUICK SET EPOXY Our standard epoxy adhesive is a 100% solids true epoxy formulation, with minimal shrinkage and excellent physical properties, including adhesion and resistance to creep under load. Using structural fillers, Q1000 is formulated to a non-sag adhesive consistency, making it ideal for horizontal and overhead installation. It can be used to place anchors in both concrete and un-reinforced masonry. Q1000 Epoxy Adhesive is a superior choice for anchoring for a broad range of applications, providing tenacious adhesion to the substrate while coating and protecting the embedded dowel. The epoxy distributes the transmitted load from the dowel into the concrete over the entire surface of the anchor hole, without the point stresses developed by mechanical anchors. Since the epoxy is multiples stronger than the concrete, the ultimate anchor load will be limited only by the concrete or the steel. FEATURES Largest, most cost-effective packaging Readily dispensed by both pneumatic and hand dispensers Cures at temperatures down to 35 o F Q Q1000 is available in 33 oz. cartridge systems.
