Cable Preparation & Installation The slack storage compartment of the wall box is large enough to accommodate 25 feet of buffer tube slack from a 144 fiber loose tube cable. However, it is recommended that you only prep as much cable as you will need to perform your work. NOTE: You will need approximately 3 feet of fiber inside the splice tray so add that to the total prep length. The splicing side of the indoor wall box will accommodate a cable that is prepped in either a ring cut/mid-span opening fashion or at the end of the cable. NOTE: An OSP cable is shown in the picture, but an IFC tight buffer cable can be used as well. If a shielded cable is used, a bonding clamp 3M 4460-D or equivalent can be used. Cable Mid-Span Opening End of the Cable If a shielded cable is used, a bonding clamp 3M 4460-D or equivalent can be used. 3M 4460-D Bonding Clamp Installed In order to install cable in the splicing side of the wall box, the feed through plate will need to be removed by removing the two screws holding it in place. Screws and plates 10

Locate the green clamp shells and corresponding 1/4-20 mounting screws from the ship-along hardware. The clamp shells are used in same size pairs. Avoid using a clamp that is too small and does not easily close around the cable. Use the next larger clamp and grommet tape. Grommet tape should be applied to the green clamp shell prior to installation. Use the included mounting screw to fasten the clam shell and the cable to the panel on the provided tab. The cable should be mounted so that the breakout is slightly beyond the end of the clam shell. After mounting the cable, replace the feed through plate with the same screws. 11

Grounding The panel and all associated cables can be grounded to the provided lug. Sealing the Panel The unused holes in the housing of the panel can be sealed using the included plugs. Plugs Installed 12

Fiber Splicing Route the buffer tube to be spliced in the slack storage and up to the cassette to be spliced. Mark the tie off point of the cassette with a marker. Make sure to leave around 3 feet of extra buffer tube after the mark to allow for slack in the tray. Mark here Remove all Clearview Cassettes from panel that need to be spliced. This can be done by opening the bulkhead and removing the two captive screws holding the cassette to the bulkhead. Captive Screws SEE THE SPLICING MANUAL FOR SPLICING IN THE CLEARVIEW CASSETTE. Return the cassette to the panel. Store buffer tubes and secure with the provided Velcro and bridge lances. Close the bulkhead and make sure the tabs in the housing are bent enough to retain the bulkhead. 13

Jumper Installation Access to the jumper side of the panel is done via the security screw on the right hand side of the panel. Security Screw Individual jumpers can be inserted through either the upper or lower hole in the enclosure. You may want to wrap the group of jumpers with some grommet tape to protect them from the edge of the sheet metal at the opening. Grommet Tape Store the slack from the jumpers on the slack management spools provided. It is recommended that the jumpers leave the radius spools toward the back wall opposite the cable entrance, and then transition forward to the adapters. This will allow for proper jumper swing if the bulkhead is opened. The slack can then be dressed up using the supplied Velcro strips. 14

Grounding The panel and all associated cables can be grounded to the provided lug in the splicing side of the wall box. 30

Fiber Splicing Route the buffer tube to be spliced in the slack storage and up to the cassette to be spliced. Mark the tie off point of the cassette with a marker. Make sure to leave around 3 feet of extra buffer tube after the mark to allow for slack in the tray. Remove all Clearview Cassettes from panel that need to be spliced. This can be done by opening the bulkhead and removing the two captive screws holding the cassette to the bulkhead. SEE THE SPLICING MANUAL FOR SPLICING IN THE CLEARVIEW CASSETTE. After splicing is complete, return the cassette to the panel and store buffer tubes and secure with the provided Velcro and bridge lances. Then close the bulkhead and use the 7/16 " screw to secure it closed. 31

Jumper Installation Access to the jumper side of the panel is done via the security screw on the outside door. Individual jumpers can be inserted through either the upper or lower hole in the enclosure. You will want to wrap the group of jumpers with some of the provided grommet tape to protect them from the edge of the sheet metal at the opening and provide an environmental seal. Make sure to use enough tape to fully seal the gap around the jumpers. Store the slack from the jumpers on the slack management spools provided. It is recommended that the jumpers leave the radius spools toward the back wall opposite the cable entrance, and then transition forward to the adapters. This will allow for proper jumper swing if the bulkhead is opened. The slack can then be dressed up using the supplied Velcro strips. 32

Jumpers can also enter through the 2" conduit opening provided in the rear of the panel by removing the conduit sealing plug. Pre-connectorized jumpers or OSP cables can be sealed in the same fashion as the distribution side by using a liquid tight fitting around the cable. 33

Splice Only FieldSmart Pedestal The FieldSmart FDP Pedestal is a value added version of an Emerson BD5 distribution pedestal. This style pedestal is a round-cornered, square-design telephone distribution pedestal accepted for use by the RDUP (formerly RUS). The pedestal has been modified to accommodate the use of fiber optic distribution and drop splices. This pedestal is designed to accommodate outside plant cables with a loose tube/buffer tube construction. It can handle both armored and non-armored cables. If cables are to be installed in a ring cut/mid-span opening configuration, then only cables capable of passing the RDUP mid-span criteria of the PE-91 specification are allowed. Included in this pedestal are: a splice tray bracket, one splice tray, a dielectric wrap around shield, radius limiting spools, Velcro style cable management, cable securing zip ties and a shield isolation bonding/grounding bracket assembly. Features and Benefits: Rugged metal housing made of mill-galvanized steel--for durability and low maintenance costs Emerson s unique multi-stage paint process meets or exceeds EPA standards and provides a tough corrosion-resistant finish for longer life Tongue-in-groove fit of upper cover protects against environmental conditions Factory installed dielectric shield offers ultraviolet protection of cable conductors; while remaining user friendly RUS accepted shield isolation bonding/grounding bracket assembly accommodates the RUS PE- 91 requirements for cable shield isolation; 6AWG grounding capability Splicing capacity for up to 144 splices that can be used for either distribution to drop splices or to splice express fibers 39

Accessory List Radius limiting spool 2. Velcro cable management 3. Splice tray 4. Distribution and drop cables 5. Outside cover 6. Security screw for holding on the cover 7. Secondary splice tray holder mounting location 8. Vinyl dust /UV shield 9. Zip Tie cable management 40

Pedestal Access The interior of the pedestal can be accessed by loosening the security screw on the right hand side of the pedestal using a 7/16 thin wall socket or a telecommunications industry can wrench. Then, by supporting the top of the cover and pulling out and up on the handle, the outer cover of the pedestal can be removed to provide access to the interior. 41

Cable Preparation & Installation OSP distribution cables that are entering or exiting the pedestal can be prepped in either a ring cut/mid-span opening fashion or at the end of the cable. Ring Cut/Mid-span Opening End of the cable The pedestal is designed to hold more than 20 feet of buffer tube from a 144 OSP cable, but most manufacturers recommend not exposing more than 20 feet in an OSP environment. This rule is especially true for ring cut applications (see RDUP PE91). In either cable prep method, please verify with your cable manufacturer to see if a central strength member clamp (3M 2172 or equivalent) must be installed to secure the central strength member, in order to maintain the cable warranty. 3M 2172 Cable Clamp Installed 42

If a shielded cable is to be used and grounded in this application, then a bonding clamp (3M 4460-D or equivalent) shall be attached in addition to the strength member clamp. 3M 4460-D Bonding clamp installed Cables to be installed can be secured to the back plane of the pedestal using the zip tie mounts found at the bottom of the pedestal. Zip tie locations When attaching the cables to the back plate using zip ties, it is very important to not fully tighten the zip ties around the cable. Each zip tie should allow at least 1/8 of clearance on all sides. This is important as the cable will need to piston or freely move inside the zip tie independently from the pedestal in the case of pedestal shifting. Be sure to leave at least 4-6 inches of cable from the zip tie to the strength member tie-off. NOTE: A drop cable is also installed in this picture. The excess buffer tube should then be routed loosely around the radius limiters provided and then secured loosely with the Velcro management that is installed in the pedestal. Loose zip

Grounding Each pedestal comes with a pre-installed RDUP approved, grounding and bonding plate. 44

Fiber Splicing The pedestal is capable of holding up to 144 splices by adding up to eleven 12 fiber trays (part number ), one at a time to the included bracket. NOTE: If more than 6 trays are used, you will not be able to hinge the entire stack to access lower splices. Although the bracket will accomodate12 trays, we recommend only using 6 for 72 splices. Trays can be added by sliding the new tray onto the hinge pins and then folding it down to snap the tray in place. Align the pins and insert into position Fold the tray down snap in place Additional capacity (up to 12 more trays) can be added to the pedestal by adding a second splice tray bracket (part number ) to the back wall. NOTE: If more than 6 trays are used, you will not be able to hinge the entire stack to access lower splices. Although the bracket will accomodate12 trays, we recommend only using 6 for 72 splices. 45

The bracket is installed using the preinstalled screws from the back plane. Remove the screws and discard the nuts. The screws can then be used to attach the bracket to the pedestal. The first sacrificial splice tray is pre-installed with two 4-40 x 1/4 screws (part number ). 46

Closing the Pedestal After work is completed in the pedestal, the black vinyl sheeting will need to be wrapped around the splice trays and secured into place using the slots and tabs that are precut into the vinyl. The cover is replaced by first hanging the top of the pedestal cover from the back panel, then swinging the cover closed and tightening the security screw. Security Screw 47

Installation in a Proform 12 Pedestal Push the insert into the slots until the assembly clicks into place then verify the spring clips have engaged over the plastic railing. The assembly can be removed by pulling on the spring clip and lifting the insert. Align the mounting tabs with the corresponding slots in the base of the pedestal. Make sure that the front of the insert faces the smaller shorter side of the pedestal. 51

PON in a PED VAULT MOUNT Using a Clearfield FieldSmart 24 x 36 vault, with split lid and a 12 x 12 Channell Pedestal cover, the PON in a PED provides PON access from above, while incorporating slack cable storage directly below in the vault. 52

General Use The following describes the general use of the pedestal insert. Although the pictures are representative of a Channel Pedestal, the functionality is the same regardless of the application. Removing the Cover The cover can be removed by tilting the cover away from the bottom of the insert and sliding the tab out of the provided latching hole. This will provide access to the front of the insert and the designation card inside the cover. NOTE: The cover is not included with the BD7 version of the insert. The desi-card is provided as a label to be applied to the inside door of the pedestal. 53

Installing PON Splitters The splitters can be installed in the top left corner of the Insert by sliding them onto the provided studs and securing with the plastic wing nuts. The splitter slack is then routed around the spools as shown and then the staging plate is installed in the brackets provided. The staging plate is installed by snapping the plate into place. Distribution ports can then be activated by removing the connectors from the staging plate and connecting them to the corresponding adapter, routing the slack as shown. The fibers can then be dressed up with the provided Velcro. 54

Pedestal Cable Preparation OSP distribution cables that are entering or exiting the pedestal can be prepped in either a ring cut/mid-span opening fashion or at the end of the cable. In either cable prep method, a central strength member clamp (3M 2172 or equivalent) must be installed to secure the central strength member. 3M 2172 Cable Clamp Installed 55

If a shielded cable is to be used and grounded in this application, then a bonding clamp (3M 4460-D or equivalent) shall be attached in addition to the strength member clamp. 3M 4460-D Bonding clamp installed Cables to be installed can be secured to the side brackets of the pedestal using the zip tie mounts found on the bottom mounting brackets of the pedestal. When attaching the cables to the back plate using zip ties, it is very important to not fully tighten the zip ties around the cable. Each zip tie should allow at least 1/8 of clearance on all sides. This is important as the cable will need to piston or freely move inside the zip tie independently from the pedestal in the case of ground heave. The excess buffer tube should then be routed loosely around the radius limiters provided and then secured loosely with the Velcro management that is installed in the pedestal. This cable can then leave the other side of the pedestal and be secured in the same fashion as described above. 56

Fiber Splicing SEE THE CASSETTE MANUAL FOR SPLICING IN THE CLEARVIEW CASSETTE. After splicing is complete, return the cassette to the pedestal and store buffer tubes, and secure with the provided Velcro and bridge lances. 57

The FieldSmart Small Count Delivery SCD Case is the industry s only universal drop cable enclosure for use with any drop cable media in all application environments. The solution provides configuration flexibility in the FTTH last mile access point with an innovative, intuitive and modular approach, while utilizing proven traditional sealed closure techniques. FieldSmart SCD Case allows you to standardize drop cable deployment methodologies with a single enclosure system. The identical enclosure is shipped with associated mounting hardware to be placed: on a strand on a pole or wall in an above-grade pedestal, or in below-grade level vault environments aerial The FieldSmart SCD Case extends its flexibility by supporting the feeder or distribution drop option of your choice, including the pushable fiber or FieldShield drop cable, industry standard flat drop or round OSP cable using industry standard or HFOC connectors. The system also supports direct splicing to the feeder or to the outbound legs of splitters in distributed split architecture. 58

Opening the SCD Case The SCD Case is accessed by removing the compression clamp at the bottom of the case. The 6 clamp utilizes a plastic clamp. Remember to remove the cover slowly so the inside O Ring around the terminal base stays in place. If cover is tight, tap around base with a screwdriver handle to break cover loose. DO NOT damage area where sealing clamp seats. The SCD Case can be secured by different means. They both accept a paddle lock as shown below. It is also possible to us a bud tag or a security bolt. Use the buried service wire gauge, attached to the cover, to determine correct grommet. The wire gauge has six tapered holes to measure the proper size of the buried service wire. Insert the service wire into the larger end of the tapered hole, starting with the largest hole. The largest hole the buried service wire will NOT go through determines the correct size sealing grommet. Each tapered hole has a number that corresponds with a number on the sealing grommet. Make certain both numbers are the same on the gauge and the grommet. 59

For flat drop cables, the sealing grommet labeled 3-4 is to be used. In order to accommodate the flat shape of the cable, you will need to slice open one side of the grommet. CAUTION: Use of other than the correct sealing grommet is certain to produce service failure. DO NOT use tape or other substance in lieu of the correct sealing grommets. Remove the reusable plug from the base in the location where the cable is intended to be installed. Identify the location where you want to add the drop and remove the factory installed SWEP plug from the base (7/16 nut and slotted screwdriver). NOTE: Make sure both o-ring grommets are removed when SWEP plug is removed. Insert the cable through the base from the outside. Place the sealing grommet over the end of the cable and slide along the length of the cable to the local location. The flat drop cable is installed into the grommet by sliding the cable into the slot on the side of the grommet. Lubricate the outside of the sealing grommet with the lubricant provided. NOTE: You can also lightly lubricate inside of the holes on base to aid in installation; particularly on the larger figure-8 grommet. NOTE: DO NOT lubricate the incoming cable as this will remove friction required for grommet installation. Insert the sealing grommet into the hole, pressing with fingers as far as possible. Pull service wire from under terminal while pushing on top of grommet until seated. The sealing grommet is properly installed when the top surface of sealing grommet is slightly below top surface of terminal base. NOTE: It is important to let the grommet set and the grease dry for 15 minutes before moving to ensure a solid seal. 60

Remove any excess lubricant from the grommet and base. The hour glass shaped sealing grommet is a solid grommet with two sets of circular slits. These circular slits can be removed to form a cable grommet that accommodates cables of different diameters. The double cable entrance grommet with the lay in feature allows for a looped cable to be installed into the base. The circular slits will accommodate cables from.4 through 1.8 in diameter. The cable diameter can be best determined by the use of the diameter tape provided. Wrap the diameter tape around the cable with the numbered side exposed. An arrow on the diameter tape will point to a number corresponding to a slit in the sealing grommet. A number indicating the smallest slit is located at the center of each sealing grommet. Count each slit from that number stopping at the number indicated by the arrow on the diameter tape. Remove the unwanted portion of the cable entrance with snips. A correctly fitted sealing grommet has an opening nearest the cable diameter yet completely closes over the cable without undue force. Test fit the grommets over the cables before final assembly to assure a proper fit. Using a small amount of lubricant, lubricate all the sealing surfaces of the sealing grommet including the internal surface touching the cable and the side slit of the grommet. Also lubricate the surface of the base where the grommet will meet the plastic. Two cables can enter the case through this grommet as well as a mid-span opening of a cable. NOTE: DO NOT LUBRICATE BETWEEN THE ANULAR RINGS. Too much lubricant will cause the grommet to fall out and too little will make insertion difficult. It is important to let the grommet set and the grease dry for 15 minutes before moving to ensure a solid seal. 61

There is also a two place strength member tie off location on the rear of the bulkhead for larger count incoming cable. The strength members of drop cables can be secured using the optional strength member clamps. The clamp can be secured to the strength member close to cable exit of the base. The FieldShield Duct or microduct can be installed in the same fashion as a regular OSP cable. If a figure 8 duct with toning wire is used, the toning wire will need to be peeled back and the jacket smoothed out before installing into the base. Once the duct is installed into the SCD Case, the pushable cable can then be installed per the usual methods. NOTE: Too much lubricant will cause the grommet to fall out and too little will make insertion difficult. It is important to let the grommet set and the grease dry for 15 minutes before moving to ensure a solid seal. 62

The SCD Case Grounding Kit is composed of the following parts: 2 flat washers 1 ground stud 2 lock washers 1 sealing grommet 2 nuts Assemble the parts in the order shown, leave off the last washer, and lock washer and nut. It may require some grease to help slide the grommet into place on the stud. Place a small layer of the grease provided with the cable sealing grommets around the outside of the sealing grommet. Next, press the grommet into the base using one of the smaller cable entrance holes. The grommet can then be secured using the washer, lock washer and nut from the bottom side. A multiple location grounding plate can also be attached to the grounding stud on the outside of the base, if desired. 63

Excess slack can be stored in the SCD Case in several different manners. Ring cut cables can be stored on the rear of the bulkhead as shown below. Both cases can accommodate a maximum of 40 feet of slack. To determine the maximum length of a mid-span opening available, divide 40 by the number of buffer tubes stored. For example, for a 48 fiber cable, you can store 10 feet of mid-span opening. 64

How to Use the SCD-6 Case for Terminated SC APC Drops Remove up to 10 feet of outer sheath, route into rear of backplane. Tie off strength members and ground if necessary. 10 feet slack shown below. Bring desired buffer tube to front of the back plane. Route buffer tube and determine proper strip length for splicing into xpak. 65

After mid-spanning buffer tube, cut desired fibers and leave pass through fibers intact. Route pass-through fibers into xpak and tie-off buffer tube as shown. Splice pigtails onto desired fibers. 66

Load terminated fibers into xpak and do the final assemblies on xpak (install faceplate and fold). Insert mounting pins into xpak and attach to SCD Case back plane. Install drop cables into SCD Case, using split grommet and plug into terminated xpak. 67

The buffer tube that will be spliced can be routed through the top of the base and transitioned to the front. Then, extra slack can be stored on the front of the bulkhead before it will be spliced. Additional buffer tube or incoming drop storage is located around the outside of the bulkhead insert. NOTE: The fiber is stored either on the front or back of the insert when at the bottom. When using an xpak in the SCD Case, (the 5 holds 1 xpak, the 6 holds 2 xpaks) the mounting tabs will need to be removed from the bulkhead using a side cutter or utility knife. Be sure to cut all connective material flush to the sides of the coupler. The couplers are then inserted into the rectangular dome on the base in the manner shown. The xpak with a cable exiting the top of the cassette can then be attached to the bulkhead as shown. The slack of the incoming cable can be stored either on the front of the bulkhead or on the rear. Added support for the xpak can be installed using the piece of Velcro that is shipped with each unit, as described in the optical component section. 68

The front of the bulkhead incorporates a splice tray that is capable of up to 9 splices in the 5, or up to 18 splices in the 6. NOTE: The rectangular domes for xpak mounting can be removed to make room for splice sleeves. They can be removed with a side cutter or utility knife. Optical components can be spliced to drops in the splicing compartment. The optical component will need to be attached to the bulkhead using an RTV adhesive. A small variety of terminated optical components can be purchased in an xpak. This is limited to 1x2, and 1x3 FBT splitters and standard FSAN WDMS. These xpak can then be installed as described above. NOTE: If the optical component in the xpak prevents normal mounting, you can insert a piece of Velcro in the cover as shown then wrap the Velcro and secure the xpak to the bulkhead. The SCD Case can be aerially mounted by using the aerial mount kit. The kit is installed by first installing the flat plate, washer and lanyard to the base of the SCD Case as shown below. Then the hanging clamps are attached to the dome using the provided hose clamps. Try to evenly space the clamps as shown below. Finally, use a zip tie to attach the lanyard to the aerial bracket. The entire assembly can then be mounted to the aerial strand. 69

The SCD Case can be mounted into a direct bury pedestal by utilizing the pedestal mounting bracket (supplied with the pedestal). The SCD Case is mounted to the pedestal with a single screw as shown below. The vault mounted bracket can be installed to the side of the CraftSmart Fiber Protection Vault using the vault mounting hardware (ordered separately). The case can then be mounted to the metal step rack bracket inside the vault as shown below. Step Racks and Universal Mounting Brackets are adjustable, so customer can mount SCD Case in the location that meets their needs. NOTE: All CraftSmart Vaults come standard with ¼ turn L-Bolt locks and 3 step racks on the inside of the vault. Step racks can be repositioned by customer by simply removing the 2 wing nuts, washers and bolts, then drilling 2 - ¼ holes and re-installing the step racks where required. For maximum clearance and cable bend radius, measure 23 from the inside sidewall of vault for step rack placement (see picture below). 70

This system allows for a tool free removal of the case for technician work. The SCD Case can also be temporarily mounted vertically for ease of work. The SCD Case is wall/pole mounted by using the offset s-mounting bracket, and bolting the bracket to a solid part of the wall/pole. NOTE: Be sure to use the appropriate fasteners to match your mounting surface. 71

CraftSmart Test Access Point (TAP) Box Application Clearfield s CraftSmart Test Access Point (TAP) Box gives the service provider an accessible exterior access point to do one or more of the following at a customer s site before it enters the premise: Splice in splice tray inside of box Quick connect service - thru connectors in box Test /Access thru connector port Using the supplied VHB tape squares, cable tie downs can be applied to the back wall of the TAP Box. Cables can then be secured before splicing. The TAP Box accepts a pushable fiber conduit quick connect coupler. The coupler can then be zip-tied into place

Two different optional grounding kits may be used inside of the TAP Box: 1. TAP-GL-KIT is used for dielectric cable and as a central strength member tie-off. 2. TAP-ARM-GL-KIT is used for armored cable grounding. The TAP can be secured with either a lock or security tab. The TAP can be mounted to a wall using standard hardware and the provided holes. Mounting holes A cable exit providing covered access to the inside of the building is located at the bottom of the TAP. Radius protected slack management allows cable to be safely stored as it translates from the entry to the mating point. 73
