8 Quick Change Sweep Points /// Speed-Loc Adapters There are over 50 Speed-Loc Points to choose from: 6mm or 8mm, standard or heavy duty and seed-bed preparation or primary cultivation tools. After 12 years use in the UK a pattern of types to suit different machines in our range of soils has emerged and are usually available from stock. The most commonly used points are 8mm thick from standard duty (200 series) range. Some popular examples are shown below. Primary Cultivation Tools The range includes spikes and points with hardened and extended-wear pads to improve penetration in tough soil conditions. The wear pads, with a hardness of HRC, increase life expectancy and give longer wear times. For deeper working, extended heavy-duty wear pads protect the pin in the Speed-Loc adapter. Spikes Ideal for primary cultivation in very dry and hard conditions. Two versions are available: 3 (7.6cm) 51 2 (14cm) 7 (18cm) 9 (23cm) 12 (30.5cm) Both are 2¼ (57mm) wide, 5 8 (15mm) thick and 6 (15cm) long. Use the 0215, with the extended heavy-duty wear pad, when working at greater depths. 200-SPN PWV PWV PWV PWV SPK SPK-0215 Used on Claydon, Knight and others. Used on Knight, Claydon, Horsch and others. Used on Knight, Claydon and others. Used on Simba Great Plains, Knight, Bristow and others. Used on Horsch, Sumo (modified by Sumo) and others. Extended Wear Points In addition to a hardened wear pad, the point on these sweeps runs 1 2 (12mm) lower than the standard sweeps. This increased pitch improves penetration in hard or compacted ground. Other sizes available: 4 (10cm), 10 (25.4cm), 11 (28cm), 13 (33cm), 14 (35.5cm), 16 (42cm) and 18 (46cm). Heavy Duty Points (410 series) 12 (30.5cm) 410-PWV-1208 Used on heavy duty machines such as Kverneland CLD and Pottinger Synkro. 200-PWV PWV-0405 With 4 (10cm) wings (6mm thick on the 0405, 8mm thick on the 0428) and 2¼ (57mm) wear pad. Use the 0428, with the extended heavy-duty wear pad, when working at greater depths. Other heavy duty sweeps available but rarely used. Please enquire. Used with sweeps of 5½ (14cm) upwards. Spreader seed boot spreads seed evenly in a band 4-6 (10-15cm) wide, depending on sweep used. Used with sweeps of 4 (10cm) upwards. Short, straight seed boot spreads seed c.2½ (63mm). Works well with spoons, spikes or any size of sweep. Bean seed boot places the seed in a very narrow band, at a depth which depends on the opener used. Normally used with a knife opener

11 Quick Change Drilling System /// Quick Change Seed Boot Assembly Seeding Openers The quick change drilling system is comprised of four separate components: Seeding Opener, Speed-Loc adapter, Seed Boot Holder and Seed Boot. Choosing the right combination of components is determined by the crop being drilled, and is key to achieving the best results when drilling. The choices available in the Bourgault Tillage Tools range mean that you can always choose the right tool for the job, rather than having to compromise. Adapter Holder Seed Boot Sweeps A sweep is the most frequent seeding opener used on tine drills. The sweep can match the seed boot used: the spreader seed boot is best used with the 4 (10cm) sweep (200-PWV-0400) or 5½ (14cm) sweep (200-PWV-0508); the splitter seed boot would be used with the 200-PWV-0508 or the 7 (18cm) sweep (200-PWV-0708). If a greater width of disturbance is needed while drilling, a wider sweep can be used. Spoons Spoons are very easy-pulling openers giving moderately low soil disturbance if working speed is kept around 7.5 km/h. When used with the straight seed boot, the 2¼ (57mm) spoon (200-SPN-0208) will provide a 2 seed spread and the 3 (76mm) spoon (300-SPN-0308) will give a 3 spread. 200-QCA-4700 Flat-backed 47 1¾ (44mm) bolt spacing. 300-HLD-4700 Flat mounting, 1¾ (44mm) bolt spacing. 300-ATM-1000 Spreader Seed evenly spread in a 4-6 (10-15cm) band. Spikes Spikes may be used as a seeding opener, but only to give extra penetration. They will create more disturbance than spoons. Knives Seeding with knives is commonly associated with drilling beans, though there are many options possible for creating narrow seed channels. The 200-KNF-0810 (pictured left) is a 3 4 (19mm) wide knife which is designed to work ahead of the bean seed boot and create very little disturbance. It has a chrome tip which provides reasonably long wear in non-abrasive conditions. Curved back 47 1¾ (44mm) bolt spacing. Curved back 50 2¼ (57mm) bolt spacing. Curved back mm bolt spacing. 200-QCA HLD-4710 Curved mounting, 1¾ (44mm) bolt spacing. 300-HLD-5010 Curved mounting, 2¼ (57mm) bolt spacing. When used with the 200-QCA Speed-Loc adapter may require an adapter wedge to ensure a good fit (see p.22). 300-ATM-1010 Splitter Seed splits into two even rows that can merge in the centre to give an overall 7 (18cm) band. 300-ATM-1020 Straight Spreads seed c.2 ½ (63mm). 300-ATM-1036 Knife Carbide Knives There are many options for knives fitted with carbide tiles. Not only do they provide extra wear in abrasive soils, they also have a steeper angle of entry into the soil which means they will not lift and pull rocks and stumps to the surface. The 200-KNF-0811 has a 1 carbide tile for shallow drilling, the 200-KNF-0813 (pictured left) has a 3 long carbide zone for extra wear when drilling deeper. Paired Row The Paired Row design allows seed to be delivered in two distinct rows measuring 3 centre to centre while fertiliser is placed in the centre. Carbide placement provides sharp cutting edges for excellent penetration and the Paired Row tip achieves excellent seedbed results. Available with Horizontal seed/fertiliser separation (Advantage) and Horizontal/Vertical seed/fertiliser separation (Advantage Plus) for both C-tine and Horsch 84 o Tine. Paired Row to suit C-tine Advantage: 610-ASY-4020 Advantage Plus: 610-ASY-4081G Multi-Shoot bolt-on Seeding Openers Side-Band The Side-Band design gives double-shoot capability while maintaining low disturbance and precise seed placement. Seed is placed directly behind the tip and fertiliser in a band to one side. These knives have a 3/4 (19mm) carbide tip. The wing on the side of the tip is also protected with carbide. When installing half of the drill should have openers with left side wings (612-ASY-0711) and the other half should have right side wings (612-ASY-0712). Curved back 50 57mm bolthole spacing. Places seed in a very narrow band. Modified for larger bean varieties such as Wizard. 12 Accessories /// The Importance of the Adapter Nuts and Bolts Speed-Loc Accessories The Speed-Loc adapter will not be effective for long if it is not secured to the tine properly. Each adapter has a designated bolt type and size: Imperial (1 2 or 7/16 over-size head ), Metric (M ), Plough or Hexagon (as detailed on Page 8). The casting of the adapter is designed to accept the head and thickness of the designated bolt and it is essential that the correct one is used. Similarly, a corresponding Imperial (1 2 or 7/16 Grade 8 side-locking) or Metric (M12 stover locking) nut must be used to ensure a secure fit to the tine that will not be loosened by vibration. The Ideal Angle For best results and longest wear times Bourgault sweep points should be fitted so the angle of entry into the soil is between 2 and 5 from the horizontal. Speed-Loc Adapters ensure this on most machines, but some may also need one of the angled wedges shown below. Angled Tine Wedges Drivers 2 o = 5mm (200-WDG-0206) 5 o = 11.5mm (200-WDG-0506) 7 o = 16mm (200-WDG-0700) 10 o = 22mm (200-WDG-1006) Used to obtain proper sweep pitch on the tines. Sub-plate (200-QAS-4711) May be required when fitting the 200-QCA adapter to the Kongskilde VFM tine. Speed-Release Tool (200-REL-1010) Used to remove sweep points and drilling openers from Speed-Loc adapters. To check the angle, fit one or two tines with an adapter and sweep, stand the machine on level concrete and measure the height between the back tip of the sweep and the ground.
