1 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TSB # -03 September 4, 0 EHF838K & LHF005K Upgrade The EHF838K & LHF005K are the Bostitch 8 gage and 0 gage flooring nailers. These tools are used to install the thinner solid hardwood and the engineered / laminated tongue and groove flooring. These tools were launched in 009 and one of the features noted were the trip levers that made contact with the tongue of the flooring. These trips featured replaceable plastic no-marring profile tips that would not damage pre-finished flooring. Unfortunately these no- marring profile tips had a tendency to fall off the trips easily and wear quickly when dragged across the tongue for high speed fastening, and once they fell off, the fit was very loose and they would not stay on at all. Kit # 9R955 for use with the EHF838K We have also had many complaints that the tools would cycle erratically or have low power which has been attributed to these trips short stroking and not actuating the trigger valve fully. To rectify this problem the trips have been redesigned with a rounded design that is very similar to our older models that have been in the field for many years. This is a tried and true design and we are confident that this redesign will solve all trip related problems. We have established two conversion kits that provide the instructions and all of the parts that you need to upgrade both of these models. Kit # 9R9553 for use with the LHF005K Please see the attached announcement that has already been distributed to the sales team that describes the updates in much more detail so that they can present these positive changes to their flooring distributors. Service Centers are asked to honor any requests for upgrade from distributors and end users, under warranty. However you should not convert tools sent for other reasons automatically. 2 Upgrade Summary 3. On Certain types of flooring thetool safety (Contact Trip) may get caught under the flooring tongue instead of sliding over. The tool would have to be manipulated slightly to overcome this.. The soft tips could wear as they are slid along the rough edges on the tongue of hardwood flooring 3. Low Fastener lockout may confuse some end users as the tool is slid into the flooring for fastening. Once locked out, components which guided the Contact Trip could be too easily bent or damaged if excessive force was applied. Provide a rounded design which can easily slide over any target flooring. Institute on new tools and as a kit.. Convert to a solid steel contact trip 3. Remove the low fastener lockout and provide new components with better guidance for the whole system

3 EHF838K & LHF05K Upgrade Q & A. Why Change the existing contact trip? Ease of Use The tool did not slide freely into several popular types of flooring. The user should not notice a safety mechanism when engaging flooring. The new all-steel version slides freely over any hardwood configuration intended for 8 or 0 gauge staples. Durability The soft material which was intended to be non-marring, did not last when slid along the hardwood flooring tongue. The new all-steel version is rounded to prevent damage and will last the life of the tool. Why remove the low fastener lock-out feature? Ease of Use the lockout often confused end users as they pushed the tool into the flooring and the tool would not actuate. The tool could incur damage too easily. The user is close enough to the application to easily recognize when the tool is empty. 3. What is the condition of the current stock of EHF838K and LHF05K tools? EHF838K New Stock: New Design shipping as of 9// LHF05K New Stock: New Design shipping as of 8/9/ All repairs and reconditioned tools will be upgraded to the new design from this point forward by your authorized warranty service center. 4. How do I know that I that I have the new design on a new tool shipment? The Outer Sleeve of all kit boxes will be updated. Low nail lockout feature is removed New steel contact trip is shown 5. Will the new design affect the tool s capabilities? EHF838K and LHF05K will engage the most popular types of flooring with less effort and the applications will be expanded to additional flooring products that the previous contact trip design would not actuate in. Tool and fastener recommendations should still be made by the flooring manufacturer or distributor. 6. What about POP and support materials? All POP has been updated to reflect the new design and features.
