2 Warnings and Safe Play Instructions CONTINUOUS ADULT SUPERVISION REQUIRED. Most serious injuries and deaths on playground equipment have occurred while children were unsupervised! Our products are designed to meet mandatory and voluntary safety standards. Complying with all warnings and recommendations in these instructions will reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury to children using this play system. Go over the warnings and safe play instructions regularly with your children and make certain that they understand and follow them. Remember on-site adult supervision is required for children of all ages. SERIOUS HEAD INJURY HAZARD Installation over concrete, asphalt, dirt, grass, carpet and other hard surface creates a risk of serious injury or death from falls to the ground. Install and maintain shock absorbing material under and around play-set as recommended on page 3 of these instructions. COLLISION HAZARD Place play-set on level ground at least 6 feet from any obstruction such as a garage or house, fences, poles, trees, sidewalks, walls, landscape timbers, rocks, pavement, planters, garden borders, overhanging branches, laundry lines, and electrical wires. (See OBSTACLE FREE SAFETY ZONE on cover) CHOKING HAZARD/SHARP EDGES & POINTS Adult assembly required. This product contains small parts and parts with sharp edges and points. Keep parts away from children until fully assembled. WARNING LABEL Owners shall be responsible for maintaining the legibility of the warning labels. WARNING STRANGULATION HAZARD NEVER allow children to play with ropes, clotheslines, pet leashes, cables, chains or cord-like items when using this play-set or to attach these items to play-set. NEVER allow children to wear loose fitting clothing, ponchos, hoods, scarves, capes, necklaces, items with draw-strings, cords or ties when using this play-set. NEVER allow children to wear bike or sport helmets when using this play-set. Failure to prohibit these items, even helmets with chin straps, increases the risk of serious injury and death to children from entanglement and strangulation. TIP OVER HAZARD Choose a level location for the equipment. This can reduce the likelihood of the play set tipping over and loose-fill surfacing materials washing away during heavy rains. DO NOT allow children to play on the play-set until the assembly is complete and the unit is properly anchored. WARNING Safe Play Instructions Observe capacity limitations of your play-set. See front cover. Dress children with well fitting and full foot enclosing footwear. Teach children to sit with their full weight in the center of the swing seat to prevent erratic swing motion or falling off. Check for splintered, broken or cracked wood; missing, loose, or sharp edged hardware. Replace, tighten and or sand smooth as required prior to playing. Verify that suspended climbing ropes, rope ladders, chain or cable are secured at both ends and cannot be looped back on itself as to create an entanglement hazard. On sunny and or hot days, check the slide and other plastic rides to assure that they are not very hot as to cause burns. Cool hot slide and rides with water and wipe dry prior to using. Do not allow children to wear open toe or heel footwear like sandals, flip flops or clogs. Do not allow children to walk, in front, between, behind or close to moving rides. Do not let children twist swing chains or ropes or loop them over the top support bar. This may reduce the strength of the chain or rope and cause premature failure. Do not let children get off rides while they are in motion. Do not permit climbing on equipment when it is wet. Do not permit rough play or use of equipment in a manner for which it was not intended. Standing on or jumping from the roof, elevated platforms, swings, climbers, ladders or slide can be dangerous. Do not allow children to swing empty rides or seats. 5 At the factory we have added water repellent to the stain. This water repellent decreases the amount of water absorption during rain or snow thus decreasing the tension in the wood. Sunlight will break down the water repellent, so we recommend applying a water repellent on a yearly basis (see your local stain and paint supplier for a recommended product). Failure to do so can affect warranty. Also if storing the product before installation, make sure you store out of direct sunlight in a cool dry place. Selwood Products Limited Warranty Selwood Products states that the product is free from defect in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the original date of purchase. This one (1) year warranty covers all parts including wood, hardware, and accessories. All wood carries a ten (10) year warranty against rot and decay. Refer to the schedule associated with replacement of parts under this Warranty. In addition, the manufacturer will replace any parts within the first 60 days from date of purchase found to be missing from or damaged in the original packaging. This warranty applies to the original owner and registrant and is non-transferable. Regular maintenance is required to assure maximum life and performance of this product and failure by the owner to maintain the product according to the maintenance requirements may void this warranty. Maintenance guidelines are provided in the Owner s Manual provided by Selwood Products. This Limited Warranty does not cover: Labour for any inspection or Labour for replacement of any defective item(s) Incidental or consequential damages Cosmetic defects which do not affect performance or integrity of a part or the entire product Vandalism, improper use, failure due to loading or use beyond the capacities stated in the Assembly Manual. Acts of nature including but not limited to wind, storms, hail, floods, excessive water exposure Improper installation including but not limited to installation on uneven, unlevel, or soft ground Minor twisting, warping, checking, splitting, or any other natural occurring properties of wood that do not affect performance or integrity. Selwood Products states that the product has been designed for safety and quality. Any modifications made to the original product could damage the structural integrity of the unit leading to failure and possible injury. Modification voids any and all warranties and Selwood Products will accept no liability for any modified products or consequences resulting from failure of a modified product. This product is warranted for RESIDENTIAL USE ONLY. Under no circumstance should the product be used in public settings such as schools, churches, playgrounds, parks, daycares and the like. Such use may lead to product failure and potential injury. Any and all public use will void this warranty. 12 Step 2: Wall Assembly This step replaces step 2 of the fort instruction. Continue with fort steps 3 to step 5, then on to step 6 from this instruction. A: To 2 (F13) Posts attach 1 (F8) SL Ground with 4 (H2) 1/4 x 2 Hex Bolts (with lock washer, flat washer andt-nut) and in 1 (F17) End Floor in the top holes with 2 (H2) 1/4 x 2 Hex Bolts (with lock washer, flat washer andt-nut). (fig. 2.1) B: Make sure assembly is square and then in the bottom holes of the (F17) End Floor fasten to (F13) Posts using 2 (LS1) 1/4 x 1-1/2 Lag Screws (with flat washer). 13 Step 6: Floor Frame Assembly This step replaces step 6 of the fort instruction. Continue with fort steps 7 to step 13, then on to step 14 from this instruction. A: From inside of assembly, measure 2-1/8 down from the top of (F17) End Floor on the Swing Wall side (fig. 6.2)and 5/8 down from the top of (F17) End Floor on the Wall side (fig. 6.3), then attach (OL7, OR7, AR11, BR5) Floor Joist using 2 (S4) #8 x 3 Wood Screws per end. 14 Step 14 Cont d: Front Frame Assembly This step is added to step 14 of the fort instruction. Complete and continue with step 15 from this instruction. E: Remove (F7) Wall Board as indicated in fig This board will be re-attached in Step 15. Be sure to keep the board and the screws handy. F: Tight to the floor boards and flush to the outside edges of the (F13) Posts attach 1 (SW7) Wall Back to each (F13) Post and to either (OR2,OL2,AR6) Front Divider or (BR8) Roof Upright, with 6 (S1) #8 x 1-1/8 Wood Screws (fig. 14.1) E: Measure 21-1/4 up from the floor boards on each side of the fort and attach 1 (SW7) Wall Back to each (F13) Post with 2 (S7) #12 x 2 Pan Screws (with 3/16 flat washer) in the top holes and 2 (S1) #8 x 1-1/8 Wood Screws in the bottom holes. 15 Step 15: Front Wall Assembly This step replaces step 15 of the fort instruction. Complete and continue with step 15 cont d from this instruction. A: Tight to the floor boards with the bevelled edges facing out and to the top, attach 13 (F5) Cedar Wall against each (SW5) Wall Back using 4 (S0) #8 x 7/8 Truss Screws per (F5) Cedar Wall. The 2 outside boards should be flush to outside edge of each (F13) Post. The boards should be evenly spaced with the gap between boards 1/4, not exceeding 1/2. (fig. 15.1) B: Re-attached (F7) Wall Board from previous step tight to the last (F5) Cedar Wall. (fig. 15.1) F13 Bevelled edge faces out Re-attach (F7) Wall Board. 17 Step 16: Wall Assembly This step works in combination with step 16 of the fort instruction. A: Use Step 16 of your fort specific roof instruction to install the SW Roof Side, Roof Side, Side Roof. B: Install 2 (PB1) 1/4 x 3/4 Pan Bolts (with lock washer, flat washer and t-nut) into (F17) End Floor. The bolts are installed from the outside of the fort and t-nuts are installed from the inside of the fort. (fig. 16.1) C: Install 2 Hole Plugs on each (F13) Post, 1 Hole Plug per side in each hole as shown in fig Note: Keep the opening clear, do not install any other boards in this step and do not follow Step 16 cont. Proceed to Step 1 of this instruction. 18 Step 1: Assemble SL Brace A: Remove both (H2) 1/4 x 2 Hex Bolts from the floor end leaving the t-nut installed. (fig. 1.1) B: Attach (SW5) SL Brace using 2 (H13) 1/4 x 3-1/2 Hex Bolts. (fig. 1.2) C: Attach (SW5) SL Brace using 1 (S4) #8 x 3 Wood Screw. 19 Step 2: Assemble Spiral Wave Slide A: Assemble the top, middle and bottom sections using the tongue and groove as a guide. Push together until snaps engage. (fig. 2.1 & 2.2) B: Complete subassembly by securing sections with 2 (S8) #12 x 3/4 Pan Screws per section in the middle holes and 2 (S6) #12 x 1 Pan Screws per section in the outside holes. See fig. 2.2 for accurate screw placement. 20 Step 3: Assemble Slide Supports Part 1 A: Attach 1 (SW4) SW Block to each (SW3) SL Upright and (SW1) Short Upright using 2 (S3) #8 x 2-1/2 Wood Screws per block. (fig. 3.1) B: Attach (SW2) SL Support to (SW3) SL Upright with 2 (S4) #8 x 3 Wood Screws. 21 Step 3: Assemble Slide Supports Part 2 Warning! Digging can be dangerous if you do not check first for underground wiring, cables or gas lines. C: Dig two, flat bottom, 8 wide by 6-1/2 deep holes as shown inf fig. 3.2 and 3.3. Place Slide Support Assembly in hole #1, making sure that it is level and plumb to fort. (fig. 3.2) D: Refill hole #1 halfway with soil and compact making sure (SW2) SL Support stays level with fort. Finish filling and compacting. (fig. 3.2) Note: (SW1) Short Upright will be placed in hole #2 after attaching the slide to the fort. 22 Step 3: Assemble Slide Support Part 3 Pre-drill pilot hole using a 1/8 drill bit before installing lag screw. A: Place slide on slide supports and on (SW5) SL Brace making sure slide is 3 from SL Brace end. (fig. 3.2) B: Refill hole #2 halfway with soil and compact making sure (SW1) Short Upright stays plumb. Finish filling and compacting. (fig. 3.1) C: Attach (SW2) SL Support to Post using (LS3) 1/4 x 3 Lag Screw (1/4 Flat Washer) (fig. 3.1 & 3.3) Fig. 3.1 Note: There must be a minimum of 18 obstacle free clearance on each side of the slide as the child goes down the slide. 23 Step 4: Attach Slide Part 1 Pre-drill all pilot holes using a 1/8 drill bit before installing pan screws. A: Attach slide to (SW5) SL Brace using 4 (S7) #12 x 2 Pan Screws. (fig. 4.1) B: Attach the bottom of the slide Mid Section to (SW2) SL Support with 1 Spiral Wave Bracket and 2 (S6) #12 x 1 Pan Screws as shown in fig. 4.2 & 4.3. 25 Step : Attach Slide - Part 3 Complete this step then complete the rest of the steps in the fort instruction starting with Step 17.
