Colonies and Coins from the Alpha Bank Collection ( ) Exhibition The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection collaborate once again and organise the Exhibition entitled THE EUROPE OF GREECE: COLONIES AND COINS FROM THE ALPHA BANK COLLECTION, at the Museum s Temporary Exhibitions Gallery from The Exhibition will showcase 121 coins from Greek colonies, of which 116 belong to the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, 3 to the Numismatic Museum of Athens and 2 to a Private Collection. 61 unique artifacts, mainly produced in workshops of Greek colonies. Colonies and Coins from the Alpha Bank Collection Edition The Exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue in Greek and English versions, with introductory texts and entries on all the exhibits. The catalogue is available from the Museums shops, from the ALPHA BANK CULTURE store (40 Stadiou Street), as well as from central bookstores.. Daring Explorers and Pioneer Colonists ( ) Educational Programmes for Primary and Secondary School Students A new educational programme entitled Daring Explorers and Pioneer Colonists is being carried out as of October at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, in the context of the exhibition The Europe of Greece: Colonies and Coins from the Alpha Bank Collection. The programme, which addresses Elementary School students of the last three grades and Gymnasium students, focuses on the voyages and adventures of Greeks, who founded colonies in modern Spain, France, Italy, Albania, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria from the 8th to the 5th century BC. Finally, they play the Game of the Colonists and create their own coins, drawing inspiration from the exhibits. For the purposes of the programme and in order to encourage the participation of children of different ages and interests, two educational leaflets have been designed by museum educator specialists, museologists and archaeologists of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki for Elementary School students of the last three grades and Gymnasium students respectively. Until December 2014, the Educational Programmes were attended by 455 children. Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection 2

3 Coins in the Ancient Greek World ( ) Exhibition On Saturday, 31 May 2014, the exhibition Coins in the Ancient Greek World, presented at the Exhibition Area of the Banknote Museum of the Ionian Bank in Corfu, was concluded. The Exhibition was mounted by the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection and constituted a journey through the history of the Coin from the time of its invention (late 7th/early 6th Century BC) until the end of the Hellenistic period (2nd Century BC). From 6 July 2012 until 31 May 2014, persons visited the Exhibition. Coins in the Ancient Greek World ( ) Educational Programmes for Primary and Secondary School Students In the context of the same title Exhibition at the Banknote Museum of the Ionian Bank in Corfu, were organised educational Programmes from the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection. The educational programmes addressed to children of 5-12 years old were offered free of charge from 6 October 2012 until 27 May ,301 children attended the Educational Programme. MYTH: Ancient and Contemporary Greek Art from the Alpha Bank Collections ( ) Educational Exhibition The Art Collection and the Numismatic Collection Sections of the Bank organise the educational exhibition MYTH: Ancient and Contemporary Greek Art from the Alpha Bank Collections at the Alpha Bank Cultural Centre in Nafplio. School students have the opportunity to discover the world of gods, heroes and mythical creatures of the ancient Greek mythology, while at the same time experiencing the way these figures have been engraved on ancient coins and have been illustrated in works by contemporary Greek artists. 4 With Ariadne s thread, the myth I unfold Educational Programmes In the context of the Exhibition MYTH: Ancient and Contemporary Greek Art from the Alpha Bank Collections presented in Nafplio, an educational programme is being organised, entitled With Ariadne s thread, the myth I unfold. During 2014, the Educational Programme was attended by children. Publication For the purposes of the programme, a museum educator specialist designed two leaflets for school students of Primary and Secondary Education respectively, encouraging the active participation of children of different ages and interests. Event at Serres: History of Coins Macedonia On Monday, 10 February 2014, a lecture entitled History of Coins Macedonia was successfully held at the Public Central Library of Serres. The presentation was given by the Curator of the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, Dr Dimitra Tsangari. The aim of the event was, on the one hand, to present the history of the main transactional means and, on the other hand, to familiarise attendees with the history and the archeological sites of Macedonia, through the region s rich coinage. The event was attended by 280 persons. Publication In the context of the lecture, was published the new version of the same titlie History of Coins Macedonia. Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection 4

5 Event at Kozani: History of Coins Macedonia On Wednesday, 22 October 2014, a lecture entitled History of Coins Macedonia was successfully held at the Koventarion building. The lecture was delivered by the Curator of the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, Dr Dimitra Tsangari. The aim of the event was, on the one hand, to present the history of the main transactional means and, on the other hand, to familiarise attendees with the history and the archeological sites of Macedonia through the region s rich coinage. The event was attended by 150 persons. Participation in the exhibitions: The Greek Kingdoms of Bactria and India at the Numismatic Museum ( ) The Numismatic Museum and the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection jointly were organised the periodic exhibition entitled The Greek Kingdoms of Bactria and India. The Exhibition was presented the most significant coins issued by the rulers of the kingdoms of Bactria and India. Within the framework of the Exhibition, a lecture entitled Unique Coins Issued by the Greeks in Bactria and India was given by Dr Osmund Bopearachchi, Professor at the Paris-Sorbonne University and the University of California, Berkeley, and Director of the Archaeology Department-Hellenism and Eastern Cultures at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS-ENS). 6 Figures, Loved and Idealised: Illustrating Poems by C.P. Cavafy at the Museum of Cycladic Art-N.P. Goulandris Foundation ( ) Coins from the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection in the exhibition Figures, Loved and Idealised: Illustrating Poems by C.P. Cavafy at the Museum of Cycladic Art-N.P. Goulandris Foundation. In this exhibition, alongside archeological objects from eleven Greek museums and Ephorates of Antiquities, three coins from the Numismatic Collection of the Bank were displayed; namely the gold daric, the tetradrachm of king Pyrrhus of Epirus and the rare tetradrachm of king Cleomenes III of Sparta. In the context of the exhibition had been organised educational programmes for schools, workshops for children and families, guided tours and lectures for the public.
