3 HISTORY September 2001, Aix en Provence. Two art lovers decide to leave their managing positions in an international company to follow their passion and propose contemporary art that is finally accessible. In the shade of the Sainte-Victoire, dearly cherished by Cézanne, they open in the old streets of Aix-en-Provence the first Carré d artistes Contemporary Art gallery. Encouraged by their audience s enthusiasm, the brand grows rapidly and today counts more than thirty galleries in France and abroad. Carré d artistes adorns the walls with one-of-a-kind and contemporary artworks that accompanies its clients in the important moments of their life. Love what you do and why you re doing it " Stéphanie Tosi, co-founder and CEO of Carré d artistes remembers how everything started How did the Carré d artistes adventure begin? Even as a little girl, I was passionate with art, attending evening classes at the Fine Arts Academy. Along with devoting myself to my passion, I attended business school and, after several years as Sales Director in an international company, decided to create Carré d artistes with a partner. What motivated your decision? Contemporary art was seen as inaccessible, unfairly reserved for the privileged few. We wanted an audacious and generous concept that directly bonds the artist to their audience in order to encourage the creation, and allow it to be accessible to as many collectors as possible. remains my biggest satisfaction. Julien Rey A DAZZLING journey for a talented artist After meticulously choosing artists for their technique and talent, Carré d artistes works with them on a daily basis, guaranteeing the quality and the visibility for their work in France and abroad. This close relationship has unveiled several young artists such as Julien Rey. Here is the story of a successful partnership. Julien Rey discovered the art of painting 15 years ago without any school or lessons, but out of simple curiosity. While his mother was painting in their house, it awakened his aesthetic side that lead him to a prominent film school. Soon after, he imposed his style: urban sceneries worked with a knife, enhanced by gold touches and inspired from his previous experience as a camera operator. As his works appealed, he rapidly added exhibitions and was discovered by a Carré d artistes agent in September In February, he became part of the Amsterdam exhibition and the online gallery. This was the journey that today allows Julien Rey to live through his talent. He continued to paint every day and try out new techniques, including different textures and perspectives. This daily discipline made him feel more content with his work, daring to try new designs. He liked to say that his paintings are 99% the result of work and 1% the result of talent. The Carré d artistes requirements allowed him to take a giant step in his work. A two-way partnership, as Julien Rey has recently been chosen to adorn the shop windows in all the French galleries for Christmas
