1 Here to There Children love to move from here to there. This week we explore different ways of moving for people, animals, things, our bodies and our imaginations through stories, play, music and games. We look at different modes of travel, including cars, trucks, buses, boats, trains, aeroplanes, hot air balloons, rockets, helicopters, bicycles, horses, sub-marines and walking. Friends are visited, holidays are planned and taken, deliveries are made and we do lots of moving from here to there! 2 MAKE AND DO A Seaside Mural You will need: Large sheet of paper Paint Selection of collage materials Attach the paper to a wall. Divide the paper into 4 sections. Paint the lowest section blue to represent the sea. Paint the section above the sea yellow to represent the beach. Paint the section above the beach green to represent the land. Paint the final section light blue to represent the sky. Use paints and collage materials to add detail to each section. For example: The sea - boats, surfboards, people swimming and sea creatures. The beach - people, pets, umbrellas and shelters. The land - a rocky headland, a lighthouse, a park. The sky - birds, aeroplanes and kites Page 2 of 10

Visit an airport and watch the planes taking off and landing. Look at a map of your neighbourhood. Can you find the street where you live? What else can you find? Paste leaves from your garden onto a long strip of cardboard. Join the ends together and adjust to the size of your head to make a leafy crown. Page 3 of 10

4 MAKE AND DO Leaf Pictures You will need; A collection of leaves in different shapes, colours and sizes Paper Black felt tipped pen Paste Arrange your leaves on a piece of paper. Use your imagination to create different pictures, for example a leaf with a long stalk can have smaller leaves added to it to make a mouse. Once you are happy with your picture, paste your leaves onto the paper to secure them. You can add details with a black felt tipped pen. Page 4 of 10

Cut slits in the side of the box to hold onto and add paper plate headlights. Invite your friends to a picnic in your backyard. Try using chopsticks to eat your dinner. Apply paste to black paper and sprinkle silver glitter on to make a starry sky. You may like to add a rectangle shaped rocket with a triangle shaped top. Blast off! Page 5 of 10

6 MAKE AND DO Fried Rice You will need: Chopping board Selection of vegetables, for example celery, capsicum, shallots Cooked rice Cooked sliced pork Soy sauce Cooking oil Egg and whisk Slice vegetables and pork. Heat oil in a wok or pan. Add vegetables and soy sauce. Cook. Whisk egg in a bowl. Push vegetables to the side of your wok or pan and add egg. When egg is set, cut into ribbons. Add rice and stir. Toss a scarf or bean bag into the air and catch it on different parts of your body, e.g. foot, head, back, knee. Make a broom horse with a gumboot head. Go for a gallop. Combine food colouring and water in an ice cube tray. Make lots of different colours. Place a paddle pop stick in each cube. When frozen use to paint a rainbow. Page 7 of 10

8 MAKE AND DO Make a Sub Sandwich You will need: Long bread roll Cheese, ham, tomato, pineapple and avocado Grate the cheese. Cut the bread roll lengthways. Spread each half with mashed avocado. Place tomato slices on top. Place ham and pineapple on. Top with the grated cheese. Build a Submarine You will need: A box with port holes cut in the sides for the toys to see out. A nose cone made from a plastic colander. A propeller made from 2 semicircles of cardboard - put a slit in the top of one of the semicircles and a slit in the bottom of the other. Place at right angles and slide the 2 pieces together to form the propeller. A cardboard tube periscope made from a long cardboard cylinder and a short cardboard cylinder taped on the top. Pipe Cleaners. Attach nose cone colander to the front of the sub by making a small hole in the box and tying colander on with a pipe cleaner. Attach propeller to the rear using another pipe cleaner through a small hole. Push periscope through a hole cut into the top of the sub. Page 8 of 10

10 MAKE AND DO Golf Ball Paintings in a Tube You will need: 3 bowls of different coloured paint A spoon An empty cardboard cylinder with a lid at either end Paper 3 golf balls Dress up like a Bird Put on a cap and tie on a piece of fabric for wings and go for a fly. Roll the balls into each of the coloured paints. Place the paper in the cylinder. Place the golf balls into the cylinder and secure the lid. Shake the cylinder. Roll the balls out and remove the paper. Page 10 of 10
