18 This is what John Hotchner wrote when he started the Commemorative List in August The same considersations apply for the Definitive List except that D.A. Lux, is the point of contact for changes, additions and deletions to the Definitve List. U.S.Commemoratives Sharing Network (Informal) First Cut: August 17, 2014 For: Specialist Collectors of Individual US Commemoratives who are part of this new informal sharing network. From: John M. Hotchner What: The list is Version 1.0 (August 2014). It includes detail where collectors want FDCs only (FO) or commercial usages only (CO). Changes: Please contact John Hotchner at PO Box 1125, Falls Church, VA , or to report corrections, deletions and additions. I will update the list periodically (with Objective: To have us all help others to locate new material for their collections/exhibits, as they help us. My assumption is that we have all found it difficult to locate, especially, unusual (and even routine) commemorative usages, and one has to go through a lot of covers to add even one new item. Certainly that has been my experience and that of many others who have talked about their experience with me. The list may also serve as a means of deconfliction as it seems that in some cases, there are currently two or more collectors chasing the How: Using this list, we can all help each other by identifying material that others are looking for. There is no central point for exchange. If you come across something that someone else is looking for, please contact them directly. addresses are provided where I have them. Costs and Financial Arrangements are between cooperating collectors. Suggested exchange "policies" are: 1. Anything priced less than $5, buy and pass along to the person on the list. 2. If $5 to $10, buy and ask for reimbursement. If the recipient doesn t want it, take it back. No questions 3. Unless there is a prior agreement on higher purchase prices, if you see an item that is odd enough that another collector might want it, take a photo, it to the person on the list with price and inquire if they want you to purchase for them. Alternatively, if no photo, with written description, etc. Participants agree that these are going to be bilateral exchanges. Both partners to the exchange, whether item for item, or for cash, should be doing this with good will and with clear ground rules between them on more expensive items. Future: If this goes smoothly, I will look to add definitive collectors at some future time, or do a separate list. Anyone who might like to volunteer to maintain such a list would be welcome. Request: Please exercise restraint in circulating copies of this list to the dealer community. The more distribution it gets in the commercial realm, the more likely that the prices of what we are looking for will go up
19 1 The following abbreviations are used in the CO/FO column of this list: FO = collector only desires First Day Covers for the stamp issue CO = collector only desires commercial usages of the stamp issue [blank] = collector desires both First Day covers and commercial usages for the stamp issue List member Robert L. Markovits passed away on December 20, D.A. Lux I am changing Rev status to the form of 17-xx which was suggested by Commemorative list member Ken Nilsestuen. This change implies the list will remain an ongoing concern and will eliminate the need for future alphabetic revision numbers such as XXX or ZZZ. 3 Received word from Gregg Hopkins, Sr. on Dec. 17, 2016 that list member David Bize has passed away. 4 D.A.
