1 A Note to Parents The end of the school year is quickly approaching and we know that everyone is busy making fun plans. Once again, we are asking that you encourage your child to spend some hot summer days getting lost in a good book! Research is clear that students who don t read over the summer can regress or lose skills equivalent to a little over two months of learning. As you search for books, please keep in mind your child s independent reading level; this is the level at which s/he can read a text on his/her own with ease. Selecting a book at your child s independent level means that your child can read the story alone and with confidence. What a great way to spend summer days at the beach! Need more leveled books? A great resource for finding leveled books that we use at Wolf Hill is You can even add it as an app to your phone. Another great website, also an app, is goodreads.com. You can look for books by level, or simply get some good ideas! Most importantly, always remember that summer reading is meant to be enjoyable. The attached summer reading list is meant to be a guide for students and parents; your child can select books from other grade lists or even books that do not appear on the list. The important thing is that students read, read, read! As always, please visit Wolf Hill s website to find more information on summer reading. Not only are more books listed (by level), but you ll also find additional copies of the reading log. Happy Reading!
