1 USS EXCALIBUR-A USS Excalibur Technical Manual INTRODUCTION This document is intended for the use of players in the Star Trek Role Playing Game campaign run by Owen E. Oulton. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Characters are officers aboard the Federation starship USS Excalibur NCC-1705-A in the year 2297, approximately a year after the events of the opening sequence of Star Trek Generations. The Ship: The Starship Excalibur-A is a Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser refit identical in nearlyevery respect to the USS Enterprise as it appeared in Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country. Although it refers to details from the FASA Star Trek Role Playing Game and Transwarp Drive, the Shane Johnson book Mr. Scott s Guide to the Enterprise shall be considered otherwise authoritative for this campaign. USS Excalibur Cutaway Technology: Technology for the campaign is consistent with STVI:TUC; Phaser pistols of several types are current issue. The Excalibur carries Type II phasers similar to those used in STIII: The Search for Spock as well as assault phasers seen in STV: The Final Frontier and STVI:TUC. A rifle kit is also available for the assault phaser. Communicators are similar to the series version, as seen in STIII:TSFS and tricorders are also the same as those seen in that movie. Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser USS Excalibur: The United Space Ship Excalibur, registry number NCC-1705-A, is as noted, a refit Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser, at present one of Starfleet s largest starship classes. The Excalibur is metres in length and masses 190,000 tonnes. It is armed with Type VIII phaser banks and Mk. IV photon torpedoes and is equipped with deflector shields. One minor difference from the Enterprise-A is that it ships one more photon torpedo launcher, this one firing aft. It features the latest model transporters, tractor beams and seven shuttlecraft. The ship has a crew complement of 430. The ship was commissioned in 2246, and served with distinction from in the Four Years War against the Klingon Empire. 2 Shuttlecraft Shuttlecraft are ubiquitous in starfaring cultures, used when high volume or subspace conditions preclude the use of transporters. Shuttles are small sub-light vessels, capable of low warp speeds. The Excalibur carries four of Starfleet s newest class of shuttlecraft, the Type 5 Standard Shuttle. In keeping with the name of the ship, the shuttles are named after knights from the Arthurian romances. Horizontal Jefferies Tube Captains Ready Room The Captain spends much of his non-bridge time in an office known as the Ready Room. This room contains a desk, a computer console and a cot on which he can catch short naps to remain alert. The Captain s Quarters The Captain s Ready Room Main Engineering Main Engineering, also called the Engine Room, Houses the Matter/ Antimatter Reactor Assembly, or MARA, which generates power to drive the massive Warp Engines at FTL velocities. A small alcove to one side houses the dilithium matrix, and a vertical shaft funnels deuterium and antideuterium into the M/ARA. A long horizontal conduit funnels energised plasma from the M/ARA to the nacelle pylons to power the Warp Engines. Although the Engine Room is safe to enter without protective gear, for safety from the long-term effects of radiation and the effects of accidental venting of plasma and noxious gasses, Engineering personnel usually wear shielded garments.
