We believe that our project managers can design turn-key robotic solutions to satisfy the wide range of processes involved in this field: from roughing, to finishing, to cutting, ending with handling. We have fine-tuned our experience by supplying our services to companies that, using our machines, have carried out significant restorations or reproductions: our robotic machines have contributed to the restoration of Mysterious Baths by Giorgio De Chirico, in Milan Cathedral, in Sagrada Familia, and in American War cemeteries scattered throughout Normandy.

3 Our policy, our ideas. T&D has also been faced with the difficulty caused by the general economic crisis. Our staff members are driving forward, using spirit of initiative, creativity, and great personal enterprise. During the current year, we have achieved a 20% increase in sales of robotic plants, the majority within the member states of the European Union. A few months ago, we inaugurated our new headquarters in Carrara, where product development is based and where, in a few months time, clients will have the opportunity to train using one of our plants. T&D also means internationalization. In fact, we believe that only the beneficial exchanges with cultural settings and productive sectors abroad pave the way to achieve state-of-the-art products and keep abreast of modernity. 4 How it functions Describing the 3D model is the first step of the productive process of a robot. The model can be directly realized, by using the advanced optional CAD CAM software, which allows also the import of 3D scanned files. Modeling time is proportional to the complexity of the object to be manufactured. To realize the model of a simple vanity top only requires a few minutes. Once realized the model, the tool path is developped by the operator into the CAM environment, using ad-hoc tools library or 1 MODELING 2 TOOL PATH pre-set macro processings. The Lapisystem then shows a 3D simulation of the complete working process, to enable the operator to verify that everything is correct. If necessary the operator can intervene during this step to improve some aspects of the process. Having completed the simulation, the operator then sends the final program to the robot for the processing. 3 3D SIMULATION 4 PROCESSING

5 Artec structured-light 3d scanner system The portable Artec structured-light 3d scanner represents a fast and easy solution to satisfy all scanning needs for reverse engineering of products or artefacts such as: models in chalk, marble, wood, plastic and metal, or animals and human beings. The system is functionally equivalent to other laser scanning systems, but it has an excellent working range and cost ratio, and it is extremely user-friendly. Ephesto is an exclusive software, engineered for robot off-line programming that, thanks to faithful 3D simulation, makes it possible to analyze and quickly solve any placement problems or collisions. Ephesto allows to import APT files, thus emulating a 3/5 axes machine, 3 of which are linear (X, Y and Z), and two are placed on the head of the machine (A and B).

8 Lapisystem Technical scheme. Lapisystem is the robotized production system suitable for all machining processes in the stone workshop. Fast, flexible and easy to use, the Lapisystem is the perfect compromise between the traditional bridge saw and the most advanced CNC. Despite its compact design, it has a large operating envelope of 3.5m high and 7m radius. It can machine all type of stone (granite, marble, sandstone, limestone etc.) and with 6 operating axis it can perform complex 3D machining or more simple edge profiling, drilling, sawing and bevelling. It can be used in the production of sculptures, kitchen worktops, shower trays, solid sinks, bath tubs, fountains, fireplaces and architectural stonework.

11 The T&D Robotics machines can perform bas-reliefs, high reliefs and engraving, we have the right machine for you, such as the space-saving Lapisystem MINI: it doesn t need construction works for installation and in addition it is air-cooled, thus avoiding draining systems for water. All these features mean it is particularly suited for the production of design objects of a limited size or to engrave stone: the milling, contouring and finishing of stone artefacts has never been so easy and fast. Economic, Lapisystem MINI can be used in a profitable manner in both traditional workshops and large companies. 13 T&D Robotics robots will enable you to make statues, basins or to lathe columns of any dimension you wish. You will be able to save sculptors the trouble of roughing out marble or, if you prefer, programme your robot to deliver the finished product. You can start from a virtual elaboration or from a real model. In the case of the latter, size does not pose a problem because you can obtain a file using the 3D scanners supplied by T&D, which you can scale up or down as desired. This is the case of Pedrini Mario & C from Carrara, who recently created a 3.2 metre tall statue of Saint John. The statue was made from a block weighing 12,000 kg using a LAPISYSTEM 15/R30 plant, complete with motorized rotating table. Based on a sketch dating back to the 19th Century, Pedrini created a virtual model of the sculpture using the 3D ARTEC MH scanner; this was then enlarged five-fold and used to carry out the whole sculpting process, allowing the statue of the saint to emerge from the stone. 17 T&D Robotics integrated robotic solutions allow our clients to purchase a plant which is able to perform the complete production cycle of kitchen countertops autonomously, from loading the slab, to unloading and storage, once the machining process has terminated. You can leave the robot to work through the night, and when you return the following morning, eleven kitchen countertops will be ready, in the storage area of the machine. In this manner, you will save space compared to a traditional machine doing the same job and, furthermore, the financial investment will be minor. For some, this could seem like a dream but it is called innovation; the example we have just cited describes the actual machine working in Generelli s laboratory near Lugano. 21 The cost of manual labour is increasingly high and so, ideally, workers should avoid dangerous and routine duties. This is particularly true in the stone processing industry where cutting and handling are currently key topics. Our contribution is to lower the risk associated with these delicate operations. With the use of two of our ABB robots, Cooperative Valverde of Botticino was able to fully automate the process of resin application and reinforcement (with net) of the slabs; including the resin spread, with the use of an innovative multifunctional head, and a vision system unique in its kind.
