2 Page 2 The Techi s Talks Volume 1, Issue 1 Technology I wake up each morning when my android makes noise. Technically speaking he s just one of my toys. I won t wait for weeks demand it today. Another PS3 game I can t wait to play. Why can t they get a robot to slice the meat. My disappointment I eagerly tweet. Call me lazy but I try to save time. Microwaving my breakfast is not a real crime. I attempt to snap out from my wired realm. It seems like technology is right at the helm. At the checkout I have a clear choice. Use a human or a machine with a voice. Technology A Poem Stuti 10th A Before I dance with my electric toothbrush. Straight for the inbox I dive in a rush. I drive half a block to the grocery store. Technology is friendly and opens the door. I return to my work my game has arrived. My ancestors were truly technology deprived. With the click of a mouse I outsource my work. Through Amazon reviews I search for my perk. I finally use my dry mouth to speak. I m definitely rusty and sound like a freak. Understanding how the human brain categorizes information through signs and language is a key part of developing computers that can 'think' and 'see' in the same way as humans. Hiroyuki Akama at the Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology, together with coworkers in Yokohama, the USA, Italy and the UK, have completed a study using fmri datasets to train a computer to predict the semantic category of an image originally viewed by five different people. The participants were asked to look at pictures of animals and hand tools together with an auditory or written (orthographic) description. They were asked to silently 'label' each pictured object with certain properties, whilst undergoing an fmri brain scan. The resulting scans were analysed using algorithms that identified patterns relating to the two separate semantic groups (animal or tool). After 'training' the algorithms in this way using some of the auditory session data, the computer correctly identified the remaining scans 80-90% of the time. Similar results were obtained with the orthographic session data. A cross-modal approach, namely training the computer using auditory data but testing it using orthographic, reduced performance to 65-75%. Continued research in this area could lead to systems that allow people to speak through a systems that allow people to speak through a computer simply by thinking about what they want to say. Supercomputer.A supercomputer is a computer at the frontline of current processing capacity, particularly speed of calculation. Supercomputers are used for highly calculation-intensive tasks such as problems including quantum physics, weather forecasting, climate research, molecular modeling (computing the structures and properties of chemical compounds, biological macromolecules, polymers, and crystals), and physical simulations (such as simulation of airplanes in wind tunnels, simulation of the detonation of nuclear weapons, and research into nuclear fusion). Supercomputers were introduced in the 1960s and were designed primarily by Seymour Cray at Control Data Corporation (CDC), which led the market into the 1970s until Cray left to form his own company, Cray Research. He then took over the supercomputer market with his new designs, holding the top spot in supercomputing for five years ( ). In the 1980s a large number of smaller competitors entered the market, in parallel to the creation of Mohan Kumar XI A the minicomputer market a decade earlier, but many of these disappeared in the mid-1990s "supercomputer market crash". Today, supercomputers are typically one -of-a-kind custom designs produced by traditional companies such as Cray, IBM and Hewlett-Packard, who had purchased many of the 1980s companies to gain their experience. Currently, Japan's K computer, built by Fujitsu in Kobe, Japan is the fastest in the world.[2] It is three times faster than previous one to hold that title, the Tianhe-1A

The Project Leader Shivani opted to work on this project stating the reason that Hydro-electric Power is a clean source of renewable energy where as the water source is readily available. Brief Design: The generator has 2 parts the rotor and the stator. The generator has a coil and turbine. It is connected to a LED for showing generation of electricity. After completion of the project, the Project Leader demonstrated the project at KVS Gwalior Cluster. The project at THE PROJECT TEAM Gwalior Cluster was selected to be presented at KVS Regional level at Agra. The journey of success started and the project was selected for KVS National Cheldren Science Congress held at Hyderabad. Ultimately the project has made a successful entry to Open national to be held at KV Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. The Project Leader Kumari Shivani The Project Guide: Sh. 5 The Techi s Talks Volume 1, Issue 1 Page 5 *From the corners of Digital Library* Network Centric Warfare (NCW): The Future War Technology It is everybody s conjecture that what will happen tomorrow in the battlefield. Now technology has entered the battlefield, just as it has entered all other fields. We have good reason to believe that what s happening today is indicative of what will be tomorrow. Let s preview the future war in terms of the computerization and the current trends developing in the field of information technology. In the US Army s vision called the future combat system, network will acquire the capability of being setup on the fly to adapt to the progress of a battle. According to DOD (US Department Of Defense) Each person is a network with routing capabilities to everyone else. Think of cascading networks, all IP based that are dynamic and self configured as the troops, advance sensors, commanders and soldiers will all be linked to dynamic network that will adapt to the situation and satisfy the information demands of the battle field. This vision is not far from being realized. The Networked Soldier: The soldier of the future will have the necessary equipments to make him a network enabled Smart Warrior. Using his helmet mounted drop down eyepiece, he will see virtual GPS (Global Positioning System) linked display showing his current location and that of friendly and hostile Units in the area. He will be able to switch the display to watch live video feeds from UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) coming via a secure data link. His Rifle mounted TWS (Thermal Weapon Sight) will not only help him identify enemy positions in the dark but also pass on the same information to allied units on the network. The soldiers utilize data fed in by sensors like UAVs, Aircrafts, Satellites and other sensors to identify important targets and detect potential traps or hostile units. He won t fire unless absolutely necessary, rather relying on combat robots or UAVs to do the job. The all Important Network: Sensors: these include objects that generate useful information (such as pictures or radar image). The objects can include satellites that provide images of particular area. UAVs that generate real time images of an area, and so forth. Commanders: Military commanders get a broad view of what s going on by collating the information sent by the sensors. So they make decision depending on the situation and information available. Shooters: Troops on the battlefront do the actual shooting. It could be a squad of soldiers, robots, tanks, aircrafts or even a single ship. The commander to perform the set action guides these. Conventional warfare: In a conventional war setup radio communication cannot only be intercepted by the enemy, it is also dependent on ambient geography. More over a commander

6 The Techi s Talks Volume 1, Issue 1 Page 6 receiving information via various sources has to collate that information and make a mental picture of the situation. A conflicting information can hamper decision making in such a situation commander has to rely on experience and gut feeling. In air combat the radars are a must for any fighter aircrafts. Switching on your radar gives away your position to the enemy so during most air combat scenarios fighters keep their radars off, being guided by ground based radars or AWACS (airborne warning and control system). In addition to pilots, AWACS have controllers who have the detail about all aircraft within their radar cover. These controllers can inform friendly pilots about enemy movement and help them plan their tactics. A radar operator or AWACS controller uses radio to communicate with the pilots.the pilots have to create a mental picture of their position relative to enemy aircraft and plan their approach. Air combat is highly dynamic due to high speeds involved. And it takes time for a pilot to create a mental picture.if during this time the enemy aircraft makes a sudden change in their path, the radar operator will need to update the pilot about it and the pilot will need to scrap his earlier idea and start from scratch. Network Centric Warfare (NCW): IN NCW secure data links on the aircraft and ground station would be installed, and they would be linked via satellite. In this case the radar operator can share visuals in real time. Instead of creating a mental picture, pilot will have an exact idea of enemy location, and can plan their approach quicker to gain the upper hand. 8 The Techi s Talks Volume 1, Issue 1 Kendriya Vidyalaya No.4 Air Force Station Maharajpur Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) PH: kv4afs@yahoo.com We are on the Web- Parallel Universe Theory And Science A physicist by the name of Alan Guth came up with a parallel universes theory based on many observations. References to his theory are called inflationary universe or inflationary theory of cosmology. Professor Guth is currently the Victor F. Weisskopf Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Many of Professor Guth s peers believe that his theory is correct. He believes that when the universe began, instead of a gravitational pull to keep things together, there was a reverse type of gravitation working and instead repelled everything from it, which he coined a false vacuum. As scientists have proven our world is constantly expanding, this theory seems plausible. Another part to Professor Guth s theory allows that at the time of the big bang, the false vacuum began to decay, creating amazing amounts of particles. These particles are the same as those which began our universe. According to his theory, the universe is much larger than anyone had predicted. If this theory is true, these extra particles started as the decay became bubbles, much like the bubble he believes began our universe. The more the false vacuum decayed the more bubbles it created. If this astounding theory is true, it would prove the existence of many universes, all of which would appear to have the same properties and abide by the same law of physics. Because this theory can t fully be proven, there is speculation as to what these other universes hold. There are two main ideas as to what these different universes may contain. The first is that these universes are the same in matter and physical laws as our universe. The exception being that due the varying degree with which they were created, it allowed for these other worlds to have every possible combination of particles available. In other words, these worlds would operate by the same principles but would have every possible number of combinations there are. For example, the oceans would be where our continents are and vice versa, on and on. The second idea is that the other worlds would potentially be different in that they may not operate in the same way as ours does. A three dimensional world may not be what the norm is. While both of these ideas are plausible, the first allows for the belief in parallel universes, the idea that any given person can exist at the same time in more than one place. If, as humans, we were able to tap into the power of traveling to these other universes, we would be able to meet our other selves. While this is a truly powerful thing to think about, one can imagine the possibilities it holds. If your own individual beings could meet and each one had different experiences, think of the intelligence and knowledge you could pass from one to another. Each one would have different experiences and different outcomes. In one world you could be a doctor, in another world a politician, in another world a drug addict. The options would be virtually limitless. Neeraj Sharma XI-Sci Go to Previous Page
