The end of year exam will consists of FIVE questions, arranged in THREE sections as follows: SECTION A: SECTION B: SECTION C: DRAMA Question 1(compulsory): Shakespeare POETRY Questions 3 and 4 PROSE FICTION Questions 5 and 6: Short Story 2. Students are expected to respond to THREE questions only, ONE question from EACH section. 3. They will be expected to write their answers in essay format utilizing either the PEEL (Point, Evidence, Explanation & Link) or the SEAL (State point, Evidence, Analysis & Link) organizational structure. 4. ONLY the texts from the prescribed list for the examination must be used to answer the questions. EACH QUESTION IS WORTH A TOTAL OF 35 MARKS For each question in Sections A, B and C, in addition to the 25 marks awarded for content and argument; a maximum of 10 marks is also allocated for structure, development and competence in mechanics of writing, i.e. Organization and Expression. 1

The Tempest is an exploration of different types of relationships. Write an essay in which you describe TWO different types of relationships in the play. In this essay, you must also discuss ONE theme that is portrayed in any ONE of the relationships described, and examine ONE dramatic technique Shakespeare uses to present relationships in the play as a whole. SECTION B POETRY Answer ONE question in this section. EITHER 2. With reference to the poems Once Upon a Time and Dreaming Black Boy : Write an essay in which you outline what EACH poem is about. In this essay, you MUST examine the poets treatment of a particular theme and its effect on the persona/speaker in EACH poem, and comment on ONE device that is effectively used to present the identified theme in EACH poem. 3
4 OR 3. Choose TWO poems that you have studied from the prescribed list which focus on oppression. Write an essay in which you outline EACH persona s source of oppression. In this essay, you MUST discuss the persona s attitude towards being oppressed in EACH poem, and examine ONE device that is effectively used to explore the theme of oppression in EACH poem. SECTION C PROSE FICTION Answer ONE question in this section. SHORT STORY A WORLD OF PROSE FOR CSEC David Williams and Hazel Simmons- McDonald EITHER 4. The stories Blackout and Berry both portray prejudice. For EACH story, write an essay in which you describe an incident which demonstrates prejudice. In this essay, you MUST also discuss ONE cause of prejudice the MAIN character experienced, and examine ONE technique used by EACH writer to explore prejudice. OR 2. Choose TWO stories from the prescribed list that you have studied in which there is a rural setting. 4
