4 Getting started with HY101-SWT The considered modem HY101-SWT is a voice-frequency telegraph modem for snap-in mounting on DIN-rail. It is available in the variants SWT1200 (CCITT V.23) with 1200 bit/s and SWT9600 with 9600 bit/s. The built-in power supply has an input voltage range from 24 to 60 VDC. The HY101-SWT provides half-duplex communication on 2-wire line circuits or full-duplex communication on 4-wire line circuits. Switching between these two modes is accomplished by DIP switch 2-W. For data flow control in half-duplex communication the following handshake signals are available at an RS232-D RJ45 jack: RTS, CTS, and DCD (pin assignment to be found in technical data). The RTS signal switches on the sender. This is indicated by the CTS-LED, see picture of front side. When the receiver detects a carrier frequency, it switches on the DCD signal as well as the DCD-LED, see picture of front side. Both LEDs TxD and RxD are off when the corresponding data line is in idle state. When in 4-wire full-duplex mode no RTS signal is available, the sender can be turned on permanently by means of DIP switch C-2. In this case the CTS-LED is also on. The factors of amplification of the receiving amplifier are set by means of DIP switches 10dB, 20dB, 30dB und 40dB. Only one DIP switch at a time is allowed to be in the on state (right position). If no DIP switch is on, the amplification is 0 db. The DIP switches T-T and T-R are switched on, when the HY101-SWT is to be terminated with the line impedance. This is usually the case at both ends of the line. If the HY101-SWT is to be connected in a party-line manner in between, these DIP switches have to be off. The DIP switches 20% and 40% raise the amplitude of the upper sending frequency by 20, 40 or 60 % with respect to the lower frequency. When both switches are turned on, the raise is 60 %. With the DIP switch 20dB the sending power can be reduced by 20 db to avoid clipping of the receiver signal in the central station in the case the distance between central station and the first station in a party-line configuration is rather short. The RTS signal of the data termination equipment has to guarantee leading and trailing times with respect to the transmitted data. The leading time for SWT1200 is 10 ms, for SWT9600 it is 3 ms minimum. The trailing time should not be less than 3 ms in both cases. With some combinations of line characteristic and switching time of the sender it is possible for the receiver to output an isolated bit. This has to be coped with and eliminated by the protocol of the data link layer (layer 2). The user data is not affected by this event. V /14 4 HYTEC Gerätebau GmbH
