3 1978 : Farran Technology Limited (FTL) established by faculty staff from University College Cork, Ireland - 35 years experience in millimeter-wave industry, specializing in products at operating frequencies from 30 GHz to 3 THz : Acquired by Smiths Detection (part of Smiths Group : 4b annual turnover) Security screening ( TADAR ) spun out as separate entity. FTL transferred to Smiths Interconnect 2013 : MBO initiated in Farran and completed in October 2013 now 100% owned and operated by Farran Management Team

6 Backhaul LAN mmwave Broadband Applications Predicting that by 2020 high capacity base stations will typically require backhaul in the 1Gbps range Mobile broadband LTE (4G) & LTE Advanced (5G) will be more widely deployed towards 2020 Mobile Broadband networks will need to evolve to satisfy increasing capacity needs WiGig Ericsson, Alcatel/Lucent, Huawei, Qualcomm, etc Promoting the adoption of multi-gigabit speed wireless communications operating over the unlicensed 60GHz frequency band Apple, Broadcom, Huawei, Intel, Qualcomm, Sony, Samsung, etc
