In most control cabinets, the main sources of noise are motor starters, contactors, relays, and switching gear. For this reason, many manufacturers of these devices supply ''surge suppressers'' which mount directly on the noise source, for example, on the coil of a control relay or motor starter). For those devices that do not have accessory ''surge suppressers,'' resistance-capacitance RC) circuits and/or voltage limiters such as metal oxide varistors MV) may be added when and where needed. continued next page Form Page 1 of 5

2 Good Wiring Practices Follow good wiring practices as defined in the Noise Suppression section of the device Product manual. Pay particular attention to the following issues with regard to the parts supplied in this kit. Bring external wires into the case from the knockout closest to the targeted board connector. void routing wires across any of the printed circuit boards. Route external wires away from the instrument case. o not mount the instrument near large motors or transformers or other sources of excessive electrical noise or fields. This kit contains Cable Suppression Cores P/N ) to be used for noise suppression in CE Mark applications. Refer to the Instruction supplied with the Cable Suppression Cores kit for wiring installation instructions. Process Motors or other inductive loads can be a source of electrical noise. External MVs and Resistor Capacitor Snubbers may have to be added to assist the instrument in noise suppression: See Figure 1 for use of MV s and Snubbers in a circuit. See Table 1 for a list of kit parts available for use in noise suppression. Solid State Relays may have to be substituted for mechanical relays: See Figure 2 for use of Solid State Relays in a circuit. See Table 2 for a list of kit parts available for use in noise suppression. In Position Proportional motor applications, the instrument may have to be assisted in noise suppression: See Figure 3 for use of noise suppression in a Position Proportioning circuit.
