It is fully compliant with ITU-T G The GPON ONU triplexes transceiver is with 20-Pin SIL 2.00 x 2.00 inch package with SC/APC connector. The module consists of 1310nm DFB Laser, 1490nm APD detector, 1550nm linear CATV video receiver and WDM filter in a high-integrated optical sub-assembly. The module supports power leveling with 0dB, -3dB, -6dB, the settings with no additional calibration. The power level modes are compliant with the ITU-T G specification and are PASSWORD protected: 1. Mode 0 Normal Operation (Highest Optical Output Power) 2. Mode 1 Optical Output Power is -3dB below Normal Operation 3. Mode 2 Optical Output Power is -6dB below Normal Operation The factory default for the transceiver optical output power is Mode 0. In order to change from Mode 0 to any other Mode it is necessary to load the Password in memory position 7B on page A2 (HEX) and then load data into the 3 memory locations in sequence thereby causing the Power Level to change. The data must be addressed in the sequence presented in the table. If the sequence is not followed the Power Level will not change and it will not be possible to write control bits to the memory location. Once the Power Level is changed it remains at the new state until changed again. If the transceiver is switched OFF and then switched back ON, the Power Level Page 7 of 13

8 setting remains unchanged, that is, the Power Level does not default to Mode 0 due to the switch ON and switch OFF operation. Burst Mode transmitters are active a small percentage of the time (low duty cycle) and the Burst Time can vary from one Burst Period to another. The EOLY-GU-25 monitors the Tx Burst Mode power and the photo detector monitor current (BIAS). The DDMI WARNING and ALARM memory positions and addresses are compliant with the SFF 8472 REV 9.3 specification. The Tx Burst Mode DDMI function is invalid if the Tx operates in Continuous (CW) Mode. Software Control of Tx_ENABLE / Tx_DISABLE The transceiver transmitter can be controlled by the I2C data bus and is compliant with SFF-8472 Rev 9.3 documentation. The Table on Page 10 shows the memory locations that control the transmitter. At POWER ON, the Memory Location 6E (HEX) Bits 6 and 7 are set to 0 thereby enabling the transmitter. When BIT6 is set to 1, the transmitter is shunt down and BIT7 changes to 1. The ALARM and WARNING data include MIN and MAX limits resulting in 8 memory locations for each of the 6 different module parameters. The Table shows the distribution of the information in the memory map. The transceiver constantly measures the 6 parameters and stores the measurements in memory. The real time data is compared with the ALARM an WARNING values and if a measured value equals an ALARM or WARNING value a FLAG is set. The values in the memory map are stored as Two s Compliment or as signed Two s Compliment according to the Page 8 of 13

9 SFP 8472 Rev 9.3 MSA specification. In addition, each parameter is represented by a scaling factor described in the SFP 8472 Rev 9.3 MSA documentation. The RF_OUTPUT SOFT SWITCH is programmed at the factory such that it is ON when power is applied to the EOLY-GU-25. The state of the SOFT SWITCH can be changed any time after power is applied to the EOLY-GU-25 by toggling the SOFT SWITCH control bit ON / OFF bit at memory location 78h as shown in the following table. If the power to the EOLY-GU-25 is toggled OFF then ON, the RF_OUTPUT SOFT SWITCH will automatically reset to ON because the SOFT SWITCH control bit at memory location 78h is ignored during the power ON sequence. Changing the POWER ON control bit at memory address C0h requires the programming sequence presented in the following table. After the programming sequence is complete the program is initialized by toggling the power to the EOLY-GU-25 OFF then ON. During the POWER On sequence the state of memory location 78h is ignored. After the power is applied to the EOLY-GU-25 the RF_OUTPUT SOFT SWITCH can be toggled ON or OFF at memory location 78h.
