SITING DEVICES 7.1 Controller The controller must be sited in a dry space which meets the ambient conditions described above. 7.2 Unit with internal room sensor In this instance the room sensor is internal; the device has to be installed in a position where it can monitor the true room temperature of the space in question. It must be sited far away from sources of heat such as: windows, radiators and chimneys so that the room temperature can be measured without thermal disturbances. 7.3 Unit with remote (separate) room sensor In this instance the room sensor is external to the device. The room sensor must be installed in a place representing the true room temperature (see section 7.2); whilst the device itself can be installed where it is most convenient, since it is not the device itself which measures the ambient temperature. 8. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Wire in accordance with the diagram and in respect of applicable regulations, using the following cable types: 1.5 mm 2 for the relay control outputs. 1 mm 2 for sensors and for the auxiliary service switches. 1 mm 2 for the P-Loc and power supply; for complex sites see Master MRL 608 C1 Technical Data Sheet, sections 11, 12 and 13. It is advisable not to insert more than two cables in a single terminal of the controller and, if necessary, to use external terminals. 4

5 B RTL 120/520 Eng AM REV COMMUNICATION BUS P-LOC & POWER SUPPLY These matters are dealt with fully in sections 11, 12 and 13 of the B 551 technical specification regarding the Master of the MULTIZONE MRL 608 C1 system. 10. GENERAL FUNCTIONS All the functions ofi RTL 120 and RTL 520 are exactly the same; the two devices differ only in regard to mechanical aspects and to the way they are installed. 11. TEMPERATURE CONTROL The unit is essentially a room temperature controller which can function in several different ways, and with several different configurations, in order to best adapt to the ambient conditions it must control. All the controller's main configuration parameters are set via the Master, which then sends them to the controller Basic control to create the Controller Output The system comprises a basic algorithm for ambient control which is the same in each configuration. This basic controller essentially calculates, without interruption, the CONTROLLER OUTPUT, i.e. the POWER (hot or cold), which the thermal unit (radiator, fan-coil or similar) has to deliver. The basic controller may function in the following modes: PROPORTIONAL + INTEGRAL PROPORTIONAL ONLY INTEGRAL ONLY Choice of the correct option depends on the difficulties the controller may face in operating correctly. The PROPORTIONAL + INTEGRAL mode is usually the best suited. The PROPORTIONAL BAND and/or Integral Time are parameters which require setting. The factory (DEFAULT) settings are usually satisfactory. These parameters are set independently for heating and conditioning control. CONTROLLER OUTPUT (power required) results from the base controller's calculations. CONTROLLER OUTPUT may be processed in various ways to adapt to the thermal unit. The base controller is also provided with a neutral zone (adjustable from 0 to 3 C) as an acceptable room temperature tolerance range within which the thermal unit is not adjusted, in order to avoid too many interventions Control of the output relay The output relay may be controlled in two modes: PURE ON/OFF = the output relay is switched ON when the thermal unit must be switched on and vice versa. PROPORTIONAL ON/OFF= the output relay is controlled cyclically with a programmable cycle duration. This is a more sophisticated way of controlling the thermal unit in order to limit thermal excursions. Factory setting: the output relay is set to PURE ON/OFF (the simplest mode) Volt output proportional to REQUIRED POWER (CONTROLLER). This output is necessary when the thermal unit to control has a Volt input to pilot power issued. For instance: FAN-COIL VENTILATOR SPEED CONTROL SMALL AIR-TREATMENT UNIT VENTILATOR SPEED CONTROL VARIABLE SPEED PUMP SPEED CONTROL BOILER POWER OR TEMPERATURE CONTROL ANY THERMAL UNIT WITH A Volt INPUT This output is proportional to the controller and therefore to the power required of the system at any specific time. A minimum and maximum voltage limit may be set for the output, for instance: to guarantee minimum ventilation even when no thermal power is required to limit the top speed or power to avoid inconvenient noise or draughts Values of the CONTROLLER OUTPUT for ON/OFF of the relay controlled as PURE ON/OFF. To better adapt to different circumstances, the threshold at which the output relay is switched ON and OFF may be set: CONTROL VALUE to switch ON the relay = 90% of the power (factory setting). CONTRO VALUE to switch OFF the relay = 10% of the power (factory setting) Cycle time for ON/OFF of relay controlled as ON/OFF PROPORTIONAL. The cycle time is adjustable: default = 300 seconds Minimum ON and OFF times of output relay. In whatever mode the output relay is controlled you can establish a minimum time for which it must remain ON and a minimum time for which it must remain OFF. This function is very useful to avoid overworking the thermal unit when, for example, it is a wall-mounted gas boiler Heating and conditioning. Control is provided for both heating or for conditioning the room. This control order is received by the Master which has several modes for deciding on the basis of the type of installation and the use. 5

6 B RTL 120/520 Eng AM REV ADJUSTMENT OF ROOM TEMPERATURE READOUT In some cases it is virtually impossible to find a suitable position for the unit or for the room sensor. In this case, the true temperature of the room may be measured with a quality thermometer, and the reading shown on the unit adjsuted accordigly. This method should be adopted only if the user is confident in the quality of the thermometer, as the sensor for measuring room temperature has a tolerance of less than +/- 0.3 C. 13. INTERNAL OR REMOTE ROOM SENSOR The unit is fitted with an incorporated room sensor. It will also accept an external room sensor when it is necessary to separate the sensor from the local unit. This may be installed in an enclosed panel. This option requires configuration. 14. PERMITTED FUNCTION CHOICES The local unit may be configured in various ways, to tailor it to the user's needs. For example: Change of the main parameters Display and/or change the basic technical parameters Possibility and limits for adjusting the desired temperature Possibility of changing the desired or maximum speed of the fan-coil fan Possibility of choice and/or preparation of the timed programs Various local permissions established by the Master All these local permissions and configurations are fully explained in the Technical Data Sheet for the Master MRL 608 C1, via which the configurations can be made. All configurations made via the Master may also be carried out via a local or remote PC. 15. TIMED PROGRAMS The local unit is provided with a full series of 24-Hour, 7-Day, Annual, special programs chosen by the auxiliary inputs (E) and others indicated in the use instructions. All programs can be created by the Master as well as locally (if permitted). 16. ADJUSTING THE DESIRED ROOM TEMPERATURE & CHOICE OF TIMED PROGRAMS By means of the local unit the user can select the desired program within the limits established by the Master. The user may also adjust the desired room temperature within the terms and limits established by the Master. 17. CREATION OF TIMED PROGRAMS The user may create and/or modify all the timed programs, provided they are within the limits established by the Master. 18. TECHNICAL SETTINGS If permitted, it is also possible locally to intervene locally with a series of checks and settings of technical parameters which are fully explained in the section devoted to screen displays. It is also possible to program a local check for testing the electrical connections. 19. LOCAL CLOCK The local unit is provided with its own 7-day clock, in order so that it may operate even when not receiving the Master centralised clock. The clock functions correctly as long as the unit receives power; when power is cut, the clock must receive the time from the Master to restart. 20. SPECIAL PROGRAMS In addition to the normal timed programs it is possible to provide the local unit with certain other programs CHOSEN PROGRAM RUN FROM AUXILIARY INPUT E1 CHOSEN PROGRAM RUN FROM AUXILIARY INPUT E2 CHOSEN PROGRAM RUN FROM AUXILIARY INPUT E3 ANNUAL PROGRAMS RUN IN 5 PERIODS OF THE YEAR configurable as required. After setting these programs, the user is still allowed an intervention margin in case of emergency VOLT OUTPUT COMBINED WITH THE RELAY OUTPUT These two outputs may be programmed by means via the Master or a PC: RELAY OUTPUT ONLY = the system becomes virtually identical to RTL 110/ Volt OUTPUT ONLY = only the Volt output is active RELAY OUTPUT AND Volt OUTPUT = the two outputs may be used together when required by the thermal unit. The relay Volt output combination is useful, for instance, when the thermal unit to be controlled has a valve which intercepts the vector fluid and a Volt input to progressively pilot the ventilator. 22. SEASON SWITCHING Summer/Winter season switching of the zone (RTL...) may be carried out in three different ways (to be configured on the MRL 608 Master or via computer) 1) AUTOMATIC (compensated part) The zones will be switched as set on the MRL 608 Master, in function of the climate part (A or B) to which they are linked. 2) LOCAL SETTING The zones may be switched individually, acting locally by pressing the keys on RTL..., via the MRL 608 Master, or via computer. 3) INPUT E1 The zones may be switched individually, using the RTL... unit s digital input E1 By connecting a switch to terminals P / E1, the season setting of each single zone may be selected manually: switch open = WINTER; switch closed = SUMMER. 6

Given the high number of possible combinations, it may be useful to compile a Memo to recall them. An example is offered below. The functions are set on certain pages of the Master; the Memo must make reference to these pages. The form is as follows: Description of the function X.X.X where: Description of the function = explanation of the function in question. Example: possibility of choosing programs X.X.X = explanation of the function in question. Example: possibility of choosing programs. = function not allowed = function allowed This Memo is useful for the site manager to recalling the custom settings of each individual local unit, without always having to view them on the Master or on the PC. In the illustrations of the individual screen shots of the local unit these Memos are indicated. 7

16 B RTL 120/520 Eng AM REV POWER CABLE (ASA 2418) FOR RTL 120/520 WITH 24 VOLT AC SUPPLY The RTL 120/520 may be powered by 24 V~ instead of receiving power direct from the Master or from the auxiliary power suppliers. This becomes necessary when you want to use an existing cable system, susitable for the power supply of the RTB... zone unit, of the ZONE system, which are powered by 24 V~. The ASA 2418 twin cable permits the transfer of the ZONE system to the MULTIZONE system without having to change the cables already laid in the site. The cabling of the RTB... zone unit of the ZONE system consists of four wires: 24 Volt ~ phase. 24 Volt ~ neutral. C = hot pole of the C-Bus 0C = cold pole of the C-Bus These are the four cables which run from the UMT 704 Master to the RTB... zone unit, which are powered by 24 V~ and which receive C-Bus from the Master itself.. The site is converted from ZONE to MULTIZONE without changing the existing cabling, as follows: 24 Volt ~ phase 24 Volt ~ neutral C = hot pole of C-Bus which becomes P+ = hot pole of P-Loc 0C = cold pole of C-Bus which becomes P = cold pole of P-Loc BLACK BROWN P = cold pole of P-Loc P+ = hot pole of P-Loc ASA 2418 BLACK P = 0 V Power supply & Bus P-Loc RED G = Power supply RTL... TAKE CARE IN VERIFYING NEUTRAL AND PHASE IN ALL POINTS TO AVOID SHORT CIRCUITING THE 24 Volt ~ LINE. WHEN WIRING IS EXTENDED TO MANY ZONE UNITS, THERE IS A HIGH RISK OF INADVERTEDLY CONFUSING NEUTRAL WITH PHASE AND VICE VERSA: BEFORE POWERING UP, CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS CAREFULLY.
