2 Description. The Tower Mounted Amplifier DLNA-18 is applied at the Base Stations (BS) of the 18 GSM mobile telephon system. It increases the sensitivity of the BS receiver extending the range of operation and improves the uplink s quality between the MS (user) and the BS as well. These features appear in the given cell with an increased traffic and with a fewer number of the dropped calls compared to the original situation (without the DLNA-18 equipment). The DLNA-18 is mounted near to the antenna inserting between the coaxial cable coming from the BTS and the jumper cable of the antenna. The circuitry is located in a wheatherproof container fitted with the necessary fixing assemblies for the mounting onto a mast. The principle of operation is shown on the following blockdiagram: fd fd ~ Tx Filter fu Rx Filter 1 = Rx Filter 2 fu D Bias -T +14 V D DLNA-18 Tower Mounted Amplifier +15V BTS 18 A Diplexer separates the uplink (fu) and downlink (fd) signals at the coon antenna (ANT) port, consisting of the RX Filter 1 and TX Filter characterised by their high selectivity and low insertion loss. The received signal is amplified by the Low Noise Amplifier, that assures a low noise figure at the ANT port practically not depending on the cable loss of the BTS cable. For the case of an LNA failure or an outage of the D supply a BYPASS cicuit bridges the amplifier preventing the break of the counication.the RX Filter 2 rejects the TX signal arriving from the BTS through the coon BTS port. In the downlink direction the TX signal passes the low loss TX Filter for the ANT port. The D voltage needed for the LNA arrives through the inner conductor of the coaxial cable connecting to the BTS equipment. Passing through the BTS connector it is separated from the 18 signals. The appropriate operation of the LNA can be performed by monitoring the D current in an indoor equipment. In the case of a break off or an overstep of the threshold value the operation changes automatically to the bypass mode. Both the ANT and BTS ports are equipped with 7/16 (f) connectors.

3 The installation of the equipment can be made easily using the existing infrastructure of the base station (mast, antenna, cable). The D supply (+15 V) of the container can be assured either from the BTS equipment (if it posseses with +15V D) or in the case of 48V primary supply an orderable Power Supply and Alarm Unit added with a Bias-T Adapter inserted between the BTS equipment and the cable makes possible to send the required D supply to the outdoor container.
