2 KALPATARU WALL ART & MIRRORS This wall installation is inspired by the "Kalpataru" a wish-fulfilling divine tree in Indian mythology. This piece celebrates the concept of nature and culture, brought to life by the exquisite skills and craftsmanship of traditional silversmiths and filigree master artisans. The outer frame is inspired by the shape of a "Tulsi" leaf (Holy Basil Leaf), encompassing the elaborate foliage of chaised floral motifs and ivy patterns, crafted in antique brass, brushed copper and green patina. On a closer look, one can discover deeper cultural nuances, for example t h e c o n c e p t o f " S h u b h L a b h " (Auspiciousness & Prosperity), depicted by holy symbols (like the lotus) representing the Devine Trinity of "Ganesha" (God of Fortune), "Lakshmi" (Goddess of Wealth) & "Saraswati" (Goddess of Knowledge). 21 ABUNDANCE COLLECTION A nature inspired collection of table top accessories such as centre pieces, trivets, platters and T lights, completely handcrafted and hand cut by traditional artisans from the north of India. It has been our effort to reinterpret the age old Sanjhi stencils of leaves, plants and flowers as cutwork on a brass base objects that are both decorative and functional in Gulmohar and Mango platter. They are plated in Silver, and can be ordered in Brass or Copper finish too. The Artisans have hand cut each piece using the traditional filigree technique. Cutout filigree is a highly skilled technique of creating intricate designs by cutting out patterns from a metal sheet. This hand crafted process hasn't lost its relevence even today as it can be applied to cutout patterns onto spherical or curved surfaces unlike a lazer cutting machine. Daisy & Hibiscus flower T light are crafted with repoussé, direct contact of the tools used is visible in the result while evidence of the working method is eliminated in other metal craft techniques. 45 Katran Painting: Limited Edition As children we often craved for the window seat in an aircraft. The thrill was to look out at the mesmerising views of the ocean, fields, forests and clouds pass by. Over several years, these views have been slowly changing into urbanised, polluted or decaying landscapes. The idea here is to capture these views so as to not lose them to time and make people aware of how our planet is changing from what it used to be, and urge a desire within the viewer to protect it. Six different areas were worked upon. These views were broken down into basic lines. The lines repeat, overlap and twist around harmoniously to expose the simplistic beauty of these landscapes and sights. UNIQUENESS Since these pieces are made entirely by hand, none of them come out exactly alike. The same combination of the colours and the exact same lines can never be exactly recreated, nor can the same flow of lines. The colours are dependent on the textile wastes that come from the industry and hence will not always match up to the same shade. This view shows the marvelous golden rays of sunlight, visible through a maze of clouds. With increasing glacial melting, several islands are under a threat of drowning. Awareness and a reminder of their beauty and importance can surely make a huge difference. This is an aerial view of a small set of islands standing out amidst the vast ocean home to several unique ecosystems and species. Even the return and increasing popularity of natural methods of agriculture is a very positive sign. 54 Magia Nera C O L L E C T I O N From Manipur, a little state in the easternmost part of India, comes a craft that is both interesting and useful - Longpi Ham, the lustrous black pottery of the Longpi Village. Traditionally Longpi artists make tea pots, mugs and bowls, which are heat and water resistant. They're all black in colour, simple and almost minimalistic. Artisans use their hands to mold these pieces of art. What gives Longpi its appeal is the finish. It is smooth and lustrous. When one touches, the fingers glide over the surface, and leaves one wondering if this is stone, lacquered wood or clay. This effect is due to the presence of crushed stones mixed with clay that are naturally found in the mountains of Manipur. Another interesting feature is the cane weaving done as an embellishment or a design detail. The natural golden color of the cane creates a striking effect over the deep dark surfaces of these products. Unfortunately, the traditional markets of these products are diminishing. By developing new designs, it is our humble effort to present this fascinating craft to the contemporary buyer, hence creating a new market for this age old craft.
