1 Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging ABOUT THIS COURSE Have a passion for photography? Use that passion to fuel a career and earn money with your camera. This course is flexible and designed to fit the needs of busy photographers looking to further their creativity and business skills, and push their technical camera and image editing skills even further. Photographers study this course to formalise their skills into a trade qualification, or to build a portfolio of professional industry-ready work. This qualification reflects the role of photo imaging practitioners who possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised and technical skills to plan, carry out and evaluation photo imaging services. The qualification applies to a range of industry contexts, including commercial, domestic portrait, media, wedding, illustrative, institutional and art photography. They must be received by the due date. Late submissions will only be accepted if an extension has been granted by your facilitator. Request for extension must be received electronically by your assessor one week prior to the due date. Failure to submit all your required assessments will mean that your result will be W Withdrawn and you will need to re-enrol in the unit when it is next scheduled. CERTIFICATION By successfully completing this course you will receive a nationally recognised AQF Qualification. 3 DELIVERY METHODS Online All teaching and assessment will be completed online DURATION Full-time: 12 months ENTRY REQUIREMENTS There are no academic entry requirements for this qualification; however we recommend that you have completed Year 10 as a minimum and that you possess a Certificate IV in Photo Imaging or related qualification; or have extensive vocational experience in photo imaging. Great candidates for this course have a good photographic eye, can quickly manipulate the camera s manual settings, and a competent image editor in applications like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Camera Raw or Capture One. If this sounds like you, we d love to see your portfolio. As part of the application process, you are required to provide a portfolio. Details of this are outlined below. A portfolio of 10 of your photographic images accompanied by a written explanation of your methods and intentions. 2. Write a review of your portfolio examining how successful you believe you were in realising your initial intentions. 3. What do you believe the interpretation of your work would be by other people? 4. Describe the lighting conditions of some of your images. 5. Include a statement about the type of photography you are interested in and why. 6. How have you managed to bring out the best in your images color and reproduction? 7. Talk about how copyright applies to your images. 8. Talk about a photographic technology or practice you would like to master during your Diploma. 9. What OHS responsibilities, policies and procedures have you had to consider within your own photo imaging practice? 10. If you could tell any story, create any set of images, or photograph any event, what would it be? Why? 11. What is one challenge you ll need to overcome before you can exhibit your work? 12. Talk about a photographer currently working in industry that you admire. What is it about their work that inspires you? 13. When planning a portrait shoot session with a client, what are some important things that must be planned for? 14. Please list the make and model of your camera and lenses (For example, Nikon D750, f4, and ). Where applicants can show evidence of prior qualifications or experience in a related field, there may be an opportunity to apply for recognition to be given for previous study, knowledge, and/or skills resulting from work or life experience relevant to this qualification.
