1 SENSOR PLACEMENT AND Q-TRAINER CONNECTIONS TYPES OF SENSORS Each of the two channels of the EEG require a active sensor which is placed on the head and a reference sensor which is clipped to the ear Active Sensor Reference Ear Clip Sensor Copyright Braincore Therapy

2 TYPES OF SENSORS Sensors are made of different types of metals It is very important that the active and reference electrodes are made of the same metal. If they are not, then you will get the battery effect and a flat line on the screen TYPES OF SENSORS When we do a QEEG with the cap, the sensors in the cap are made of tin and the cap ear clips are also made of tin Each one of these white porcelain sensors is filled with tin Copyright Braincore Therapy

3 TYPES OF SENSORS When we do neurofeedback training, the active sensors and the ear clips are made of silver It is for this reason that we can t use our training ear clips to do a QEEG map!!!! TYPES OF SENSORS In addition to the metal that is used, the sensors may also differ by shape. The active sensors and the ear clip sensors may be shaped like a cup or they may be flat. 6 FINDING SITES Location of each site requires knowing how to find the anchor points and meridians There are 4 Anchor Points Nasion Bottom of the Inion Right Preauricular notch Left Preauricular notch 2 MERIDIANS ON THE SKULL There are 2 meridians on the skull Front Back Meridian nasion to inion through Cz Left Right Meridian left and right preauricular notches through Cz, C3, C4 Copyright Braincore Therapy

7 DISTANCES BETWEEN SITES Front to Back Meridian Measure the total distance of the meridian then take the correct percentage to find the point you are looking for 10% from the anchor points and then 20% increments between each point DISTANCES BETWEEN SITES Left to Right Meridian Measure the total distance of the meridian then take the correct percentage to find the point you are looking for 10% from the anchor points and then 20% increments between each point Copyright Braincore Therapy

8 Measure from Nasion to Inion FINDING Cz Half of that measurement is the location of Cz in the midline FINDING Cz Once you know where Cz is, you can use your thumb to find the rest of the sites Copyright Braincore Therapy

9 The distance from the tip of the adult thumb to the Carpometacarpal joint of the thumb is approximately the same in each individual. We can use the thumb as way to measure from site to site It is not as accurate as measuring but considering the allowable margin of error it works! In the Left Right Meridian and from Cz Go one thumb length down toward the left ear to find C3 Go one thumb length down toward the right ear to find C4 FINDING C3 and C4 Copyright Braincore Therapy

10 From C3 go one thumb length back toward the inion to find P3 FINDING P3 and P4 From C4 go one thumb length back toward the inion to find P4 From P3 go one thumb length back toward the inion to find O1. This should be a ½ thumb length to the left of the inion FINDING O1 and O2 From P4 go one thumb length back toward the inion to find O2. 12 PREPARING THE ACTIVE SITES Find the site Separate the hair Rub with alcohol swab Rub with small amount of Nu Prep Rub with alcohol Rub with Nu Prep Rub with alcohol Dry with napkin Rub a small amount of the 10/20 paste into the site Prep is complete PLACING THE ACTIVE SITE SENSORS Scoop a small amount of 10/20 Conductive Paste into the cup electrode Copyright Braincore Therapy

14 EAR LOBE PREP PROCEDURE Rub with alcohol swab Rub with small amount of Nu Prep Rub with alcohol Rub with Nu Prep Rub with alcohol Dry with napkin Prep is complete Once the prep is complete it is time to attach the ear clips. Copyright Braincore Therapy

15 Inject Gel into the ear clip First inject one sensor then turn it over and inject the other Clip on to ear lobe Be sure not to pinch the ear lobe with the plastic part of the clip Only the metal should be on the ear lobe Copyright Braincore Therapy

16 CONNECTING THE SENSORS TO THE Q-TRAINER DUAL CHANNEL When performing dual site training, all the sensor receptacles will be filled SENSOR CONNECTIONS FOR DUAL CHANNEL GROUND Use Ear Clip on either ear REFERENCE EAR LOBE Use Ear Clip on left ear REFERENCE EAR LOBE Use Ear Clip on right ear ACTIVE SITE ON SCALP Use Cup Sensor on the left side of the head (odd numbered sites ACTIVE SITE ON SCALP Use Cup Sensor on the right side of the head (even numbered sites Copyright Braincore Therapy

17 CONNECTING THE SENSORS TO THE Q-TRAINER SINGLE CHANNEL When performing single site training, the 2+ and 2- receptacles will be empty SENSOR CONNECTIONS FOR SINGLE CHANNEL REFERENCE EAR LOBE Use Ear Clip placed on either ear GROUND Use Ear Clip Placed on opposite ear from reference EMPTY ACTIVE SITE ON SCALP Use Cup Sensor placed on the active site EMPTY Copyright Braincore Therapy

18 Linked Ears Button When this button is pressed the green light below the button lights up on and the signals coming from both reference sensors are averaged together.
