1 HARRIS COUNTY Human Resource & Risk Management Houston, TX invites applications for the position of: Forensic Photographer II An Equal Opportunity Employer SALARY: Depends on Qualifications OPENING DATE: 12/27/18 CLOSING DATE: POSITION DESCRIPTION: 01/28/19 11:59 PM This position reports to the Forensic Imaging Director and the Forensic Genetics Laboratory Director. Under the direction of the Forensic Genetics Director, the employee will provide support to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Duties and Responsibilities: Photographic documentation of evidence submitted to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences DNA Laboratory using proper photographic standards for evidence photography. Performs advanced photographic techniques including alternative light source photography to document serology and trace evidence cases. Provides photographic training to DNA laboratory personnel and provide equipment recommendations and solutions as needed. Photographically documents cases in which DNA samples are collected such as sexual assaults, infant deaths, and unknown decedents that will require identification through DNA. Ensures that all images are properly uploaded and provide regular feedback to lab personnel on evidence photographs and equipment troubleshooting. Assists in maintaining a clean and organized lab and supply inventory and perform various technical and administrative tasks to assist DNA analysts. Assists in ensuring the laboratory remains in compliance with the ASCLD/LAB accreditation standards and the FBI Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA testing laboratories. Follows rigorously all Safety, Method Manual, and Quality Assurance / Quality Control protocols. Performs other duties as assigned by the Forensic Genetics Laboratory Director. REQUIREMENTS: Two (2) years of photography related coursework, and Two (2) years of professional photography experience in a hospital, morgue, law enforcement, crime lab, or medical examiner setting, OR successful completion of a forensic photography internship program. Possess a printed or digital portfolio of images utilizing a variety of light sources, lenses, filters, and cameras. (A printed form of portfolio must be attached to the application OR a link for digital form must be provided.) Valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. 1/5
2 Knowledge of photographic processing software. Additional Requirements: Responds to crime scenes on an on-call basis. Ability to climb ladders and bend over for extended periods of time while photographing evidence. Works with laboratory chemicals and various biological fluids potential exposure to blood borne pathogens. Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. and sit or stand for long periods. Has visual acuity sufficient to perceive minute differences and details and to withstand the strain of continued close work. Successfully passes a test for colorblindness. Has manual dexterity sufficient to conduct laboratory tasks as determined by the Forensic Genetics Laboratory Director. Provides a DNA sample to be maintained by the Forensic Genetics Laboratory for quality assurance purposes. COMPLETE TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION NOTE: To qualify for this position, required education, experience, knowledge and skills must be clearly stated on your application's employment history.
