1. What's vs 541 Not just with White Ink Compare the size of the images in each instruction manual: GT-782 is twice as big as GT-541. GT-541 GT-782 GT-541 prints a full-color image on white and light-colored garments. You feel nothing on the garment. On the other hand GT-782 has four white print heads to cover the surface of the garment and prints a full-color image on any color of pretreated garments. GT-541 GT-782 Size 1170(W) x 935(D) x 610(H) mm 2662(W) x 1141(D) x 830(H) mm Weight approx. 100 kg (220lb) approx. 230 kg (507lb) Maximum print size x mm (14'x16') x mm (16'x18') Ink CMYK 4: print heads CMYK + WWWW: 8 print heads Print CMYK Single/Double CMYK Single/Double Single White + CMYK Double White + CMYK Pretreatment required No Yes (for White) Receiving next data while... This gap depends on where the color inks are printed: imagine when you print some photo on ordinary office paper and expensive photo paper. The same thing happens here Brother Industries, Ltd. 3 GT-782 Menu GT-782 has two menus: The left menu is for the total operation of printer and CMYK ink maintenance, the right menu is for White ink maintenance. Left Menu See the list below: orange is in left only, gray in right only. * refer to the detail information in the following page. Right Menu Left Menu Right Menu Head Cleaning Head Cleaning Test Print CMYK Test Print White Card Data Load White Retrieval *5 Print Direction *1 Load White *6 Maintenance for CMYK Initial Cleaning Tube Cleaning *7 Cap/Wiper Clean Nozzle Cleaning Head Replacement Auto Cleaning CR Speed Adjust Extra Wipe Set Maintenance for White Initial Cleaning Tube Cleaning *7 Cap/Wiper Clean Nozzle Cleaning Head Replacement Auto Cleaning CR Speed Adjust Extra Wipe Set Total Print of Left Platen Speaker Volume LCD Contrast of Left Panel Whole Update *2 Auto Power-Off *3 Platen Reset of the left Language Temperature Auto Job Delete *4 Total Print of Right Platen LCD Contrast of Right Panel Platen Reset of the right 2010 Brother Industries, Ltd. 4 Version Version * 1 Print Direction GT-541's Uni-Directional print is only available in one design type (arp file). In GT-782, you can set Uni-Directional by printer driver when the printer menu is "AUTO". You can also fix Uni-Directional/Bi-Directional print with this menu. You can see icon on the panel when the print data in GT-782 is going to print Uni-Directionally. * 2 Whole Update Use when the firmware should be upgraded with a CompactFlash. * 3 Auto Power-OFF From environmental point of view, the GT-782 can turn itself off when it is left unused. When the power is OFF, only ERROR LED is on. Turn OFF and ON the power switch for recovery. Default is zero. * 4 Auto Job Delete Print data is deleted after the preset number of prints are done. Default is OFF. * 5 White Retrieval For Morning Maintenance to keep the white ink white, select this first to collect the white ink inside the tubes back into the ink cartridge. It takes 5 minutes (300 seconds) to finish. Do this before shaking the ink cartridge or tube cleaning to save white ink. * 6 Load White After collecting the white ink into ink cartridge, white ink must be loaded again. This menu is available for mixing ink inside the tubes with ink inside the cartridge and refills the tube again. This menu is available when the white ink is "low" but pay attention to the print quality. Refer to "Shake it!" page for more information. Do not use this menu when the tube is really empty, e.g. after tube cleaning. Do Initial Cleaning instead. * 7 Tube Cleaning Refer to "Tube Cleaning for White" page for weekly maintenance to wash away the sinking pigments inside the tubes and Print Heads. It takes about 20 minutes per one print head. A warning "Clean Tube W1 (-W4)" is indicated on the right control panel after a week passes. Tube Cleaning for CMYK is simply three times of Initial Cleaning and mainly for the service engineer Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 4

How to Print White with GT-782 How to decide the interface for white Now you are going to print a white image on a black T-shirt with GT-782. How do you make it? Our unique user-friendly printer driver interface defines RGB=254 (R=254, G=254, B=254) as "print white" and RGB=255 as "paper white". Nothing else is necessary. No RIP software, no additional layer. Fill the area with RGB=254 white, open the print menu, select the ink combination and print. That's GT-782 magic!! "Two whites" in image data Generally speaking, when you print a document on white paper with your office printer, with no white ink installed, you understand that a printer prints some ink on any place except white (RGB=255 white) part of the print area. You can express white without printing ink because the paper is white. In this case "paper white" RGB=255 is called transparent, a color with no ink printed. But with white ink we need to define another white: white to print white. This is another function of white. Now we call it "print white". Our idea is to keep paper white "RGB=255 white" transparent, because customers can make print data without thinking of an additional operation. Another idea is to define print white as "RGB=254 white" to print white. So "fill the area with RGB=254 white when you print white" means "to distinguish print white from paper white". Some RIP software requests users to make a transparent layer or one named "white" to distinguish from others. This is another way to distinguish paper white and print white. What do you think if the color is R=255, G=254, B=254 or R=254, G=255, B=254? The answer is that the former color is very, very pale red and the latter one is very, very pale green. So you can see lots of white ink with just a little CMY ink on it. Transparent Color As mentioned above, a transparent color is a color with no ink printed. Our printer driver allows you to select another transparent color. What does this mean? For example, you can select either with or without Black Ink on a black T-shirt, can make a natural gradation from one color to the T-shirt color, etc. There would be lots of hints for a better print Brother Industries, Ltd. 6 (2) Click Advanced button. (1) Check the checkbox Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 6

For example, check the checkbox and select RGB=0 black. Adjust the Tolerance to "0", where the print should start, so that you can use black T-shirt color for black but other dark colors with Black Ink. With these functions, you can fade the gradation naturally by filling the background of the image a little darker (grayer) colors, on whichever color you are going to print. Here is one of the examples: Transparent color: R=0,G=38,B=128, Tolerance=30. Print result on black T-shirt will be as follows. (a simulation by GT File Viewer) 2010 Brother Industries, Ltd. 8 2.Minimum Operation Daily Maintenance Just remember that white ink is just like "Liquid Paper ". You have to shake it and apply it with thick volume on the colored place. This metaphor will help you understand what should be done with white ink. White ink must be shaken once a day before you start the job, after "White Retrieval" and before "Load White". Why? It is simply because the white pigment (TiO2) is heavy and always sinking slowly. The white ink keeps it's whiteness while in use, if not used for more than 48 hours, ink must be shaken to insure that the white ink stays fresh. Ink itself keeps its whiteness while in regular use, but shake it to keep it fresh. So every time you start to print, start with "Daily Maintenance", sometimes we call "Morning Maintenance", "White Retrieval", shaking 4 White Cartridges by turning them upside down and move back and forth so that the sinking white pigments are shaken to separate each other for seconds, and then "Load White". This process moves the white ink back to the cartridges to shake, and then while reloading a little thicker white ink can mix with the one from the cartridge inside the whole tubes and print heads. It takes about 15 minutes for the maintenance: 5 minutes for white ink retrieval (open the tube to move the ink back to the ink cartridge), a few minutes for shaking, and about 7 minutes for loading the white ink again. To mix the ink inside the tubes with ink inside the cartridge, refill the tube again. Load white is available when the white ink is "low" but pay attention to the print quality. You do not have to do Initial Cleaning after White Retrieval or you will waste white ink. Do not load white ink directly into a dry tube, when the tube is empty, e.g. after Tube Cleaning or just before you change the tubes to a new one. Load maintenance solution first by Initial head cleaning menu to load the white ink smoothly. The following two photos are before/after the maintenance [ White Retrieval ] > shake cartridges > [ Load White ] on Monday morning. The left photo shows that all the nozzles of the four print heads are perfect but white ink is just like "water". The right photo shows that W1 head has some missing nozzles but the print is white enough. You can see the difference and how important the daily maintenance is Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 8

after weekend, after auto head cleaning no misfiring but uneven density after "Daily Maintenance" very even white Sometimes some nozzles are missing after Load White is done. This is because white ink is mixed with air while moving through the tube and the air bubbles around the nozzles sometimes block the ink flow. Originally the ink in the cartridge is degassed and normally all the air bubbles in the ink will disappear after 20 minutes or so, but you will have no time to wait. Check the firing with the nozzle check pattern and if the missing nozzles are separate, you do not have to do severe head cleaning. See the following nozzle check print and the whiteness check pattern 'whitenes.arp'. It is because GT-782 has 4 white print heads. misfiring because of air but solid white looks perfect in "whitenes.arp" Do a head cleaning if you see "missing bands" (banding) in the nozzle check pattern W3 in the left photo below, or if you see the white/gray banding in the print (right photo) Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 9

The "missing bands" issue above was mainly because of dirty wiper and too wet wiper cleaner. After cleaning and exchanging, everything will be fine. If not so, then clean the Print Head Nozzles with Nozzle Cleaning Kit (see "How to clean Print Heads and the surroundings" page). Please refer to the section "To keep your GT-782 in good condition" and printed GT-782 manual to clean the caps/wiper and replace wiper cleaner for print quality. Pretreatment Why the pretreatment is necessary before printing white ink Pretreatment is inevitable for white ink. Why? Being white for the human eye means that the surface of an object reflects every wavelength of visible rays. If you want to print a white image on a black T-shirt, you would have to cover the fibers with white ink. The pretreatment layer makes a thin cohesive film (like the blue line in the image above) to prevent the white ink from sinking into the fibers. It is very important that the surface should be as flat as possible, to keep the white ink mask as smooth as possible. So be sure to use HEAT PRESS to cure pretreatment with a Teflon sheet, to make the surface flat, 180 C degrees or (356 F degrees) in 35 seconds with high pressure. On the other hand, you do not have to give pressure in curing ink: high pressure may cause "ink explosion", especially with rich white ink under CMYK ink. The sticky surface with Pretreatment (active principle) can be washed. Here is the list of necessary amount of diluted pretreatment. Our recommended dilution is either "weight-equal" or "1:2 volume ratio". For example, when the print condition is a little worse, e.g. print on Polyester-mixed garment like 50/50, then use a little thicker 1:1 Pretreatment. In other cases, dilute it for saving money. If you dilute more thinly than our indications, the diluted Pretreatment cannot be stable in stock Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 10

When you apply manually, especially for the first time, check the weight of the garment until you are trained. Size Standard Platen 14x16 Youth Platen 10x12 Baby Platen 7x8 Large Platen 16x18 Letter / A4 Pocket size ( 10x10 cm ) Amount of Pretreatment 30 g 16 g 8 g 38 g 15 g 3 g Use a spray, a roller, or pretreatment machine. A spray gun (WAGNER CONTROL SPRAY is recommended) it is quick and easy, but more waste and you need space to use it. A roller is available wherever you like, for sleeves, pockets, etc. and has less waste but takes time and needs some skills. To apply our pretreatment in the best way, be sure to use our recommended option. After spraying use a roller to make the surface smooth and wet evenly. or For mass production, a special pretreatment machine should be available, just ask your dealer or Brother for other solutions. Sometimes your heat press won't show you the right temperature. If you feel the white is not white enough, e.g. white ink sinks into the fiber rather than be fixed at the surface, check the temperature first, and then check the amount of Pretreatment you applied. The edge of the heat press is really wet by steam. Do not wet the pretreated surface. If water drains wet pretreated garment again, the active principle will be washed away. You cannot recover those stains perfectly even if you apply Pretreatment again. Keep the temperature of the heat press; it may drop by 10C (20 degrees F) in curing one T-shirt. Sometimes a conveyor oven may be too hot and cause burns on "wet surfaces from steam" on part of the printed garment. Be aware of the temperature control Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 11

Less or even without pretreatment...? Let's see what is happening with no pretreatment. GT-541 CMYK ink sinks into the surface of fibers and is cured with heat (see the left image below). When white ink is printed just like CMYK ink, it will be like the right image: white ink sinks into the fiber and it never reflects enough light. Imagine a glass of milk that looks white, but a drop of milk on a black cloth never looks white, just a dirty stain. Seeing is believing. The following photos are the same print image with /and without pretreatment. You can tell which is which. See the left, white ink will sink through the T-shirt fiber, even to the opposite. You may fail to properly apply pretreatment when you use roller or spray. Then the print will be as follows. Missing the pretreatment causes missing white print. The right photo is an expansion of the pointed area in the left photo 2010 Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 12

Multi-Layer Pretreatment If you want higher quality, try Multi-Layer pretreatment, to apply less, (a little more than a half) pretreatment and cure, then again pretreat and cure. Single-layer pretreatment is good for 100% cotton garment, 2-3 layers for cotton / polyester garment, e.g. 50/50. The reason why polyester-mixed garments are not printed white is that they are thinner than 100% cotton garments. Polyester fiber does not absorb water. Its surface is flat and smooth and there is no place to hold the Pretreatment and the white ink on the surface. To do multi-layer pretreating, it might be better to use a roller for fine control. This process produces some thin but solid layers of Pretreatment on the surface of garment to block white ink from sinking in. It takes time but it works. The point is: 1) Cure the all area at one time in using heat press. Steam should spoil the pretreated surface. 2) Apply the amount of Pretreatment by dividing into 1/3 or 1/2. e.g. 30 g => twice by 15 g. In pretreating 100% polyester garment, sometimes the dye inside may be dissolved by the pretreatment, heat and steam. The feel may be changed because of the heat. Test before you apply. Conclusion in Pretreating: Apply enough pretreatment evenly. Cure pretreatment as flat as possible. Try multi-layer for better print quality Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 13

Option Roller for smooth apply Pretreatment machines and sprays are quick and handy, but they scatter pretreatment a lot. If you want to print on sleeves, collars, pockets, then they spray too much for one print. Then you will need this: a roller. To apply enough pretreatment evenly and smoothly, you have to choose something special. The size is 180 mm x 50 mm, the inside diameter is 20 mm. Get a handle for your convenience. The following is a set of my tools: Our special roller, a tray, a small tooth brush for wiping off dusts and threads on the roller, and pretreatment bottle. Here are the steps of pretreating with our special roller. (1) Weight the T-shirt beforehand to find out how much you apply Pretreatment on the garment. Place the roller into pretreatment and make it absorb enough pretreatment. Insert some plate (platen-type) to stop Pretreatment sinking into the back of the garment. (2) Draw the roller softly and remove unnecessary pretreatment 2010 Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 14

(3) Roll back and forth smoothly and slowly. (4) Roll to apply the necessary area. (5) Apply pretreatment again and roll softly in both vertical and horizontal directions. When you are not familiar with this work, there may be un-applied gap on the T-shirt. Roll the roller all over the area several times without dropping the roller. Weigh the T-shirt to know how much you apply pretreatment. Our option roller is very controllable Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 15

(6) Cure with heat press, 180 C degree (356 F degree) in 35 seconds with high pressure so that the surface will be flat. Do not use conveyor oven, we need pressure to make the surface flat. Pay attention to the followings: Take care not to wet the pretreated surface with dropped water. When the roller gets dirty with dust and waste threads, wipe them off with a toothbrush. Put the side of toothbrush softly on the surface and wipe off. Keep the roller wet in pretreatment and put it on a flat place. Do not dry with pretreatment. If there are some dents on the surface then you cannot apply pretreatment evenly. Recommended Spray Quick, but take care the surroundings. Wagner control spray is one method for spraying GT-782 pretreatment manually. It is handy, easy to operate, fine mist control, washability, etc. But a spray spreads the sticky mist all over so confirm the space. Wagner Website: Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 16

(1) Prepare a guard, a thick plate to show the spray area. Better to have a ventilator because everything would be sticky with pretreatment. (2) Weight the T-shirt beforehand to find out how much you apply Pretreatment on the garment. Put a T-shirt on the thick plate (better to put it inside to stop pretreatment sinking to the back cloth) and decide the spray area. (3) Apply evenly and smoothly. It takes about 6-7 seconds for 14x16 area Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 17

(5) Use a clean roller and roll the surface so that the mist will goes into the fibers evenly. Also dusts on the surface will be removed. (6) Cure with heat press, 180 C degree (356 F degree) in 35 seconds with high pressure so that the surface will be flat. Take care not to wet the pretreated surface with dropped water. Do not use conveyor oven, we need pressure to make the surface flat. Take care not to wet the pretreated surface with dropped water. It would spoil your print result Brother Industries, Ltd. 19 Tube Cleaning wash the pigments away before they stick. We recommend doing a tube cleaning once a week, it takes time, but it is necessary to reduce the risks of choking with pigment TiO2. It takes minutes to clean one tube. A lot of air bubbles and the maintenance solution pigments will be easily washed away. Do not leave GT-782 with the white ink inside. If you do not use GT-782 for about two weeks, execute tube cleaning and load maintenance solution inside GT-782 by initial head cleaning menu, and then exchange maintenance cartridge to cap cartridge (option). Do not use filter cartridge for capping; the inside of the needles and tubes may be dried up and clogged. How to execute Tube Cleaning: Confirm first that there is enough room in waste ink tank. Fill the bottle with maintenance solution (500 ml, at least more than 250 ml per one Print Head), tighten the cap and set it in the hole of the maintenance cartridge. Insert the tube of the Maintenance Cartridge to the bottom of the bottle. Retrieve the white ink in the tubes, remove one white ink cartridge and insert maintenance cartridge 2010 Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 19

Make sure that air-in cap is closed. Select [ Maintenance ] > [ Tube Cleaning ] and one print head where maintenance cartridge is set. Press [ OK ] to start. After 30 seconds, with the "beep, beep" sound, the message is indicated on the control panel. Uncap (open) the air-in cap and press the OK button. The air goes into the tube and washes away the remaining white ink. It takes about 10 minutes to wash one tube. After washing with air bubbles, only air is put through the tube to remove the bubbles. Follow the control panel and insert the filter cartridge with the slot closed with the seal and press OK button. After all print heads are finished, confirm that the tube cleaning is successfully done (check if the tube before/after the pre-filter is transparent like the photos below). Select "Maintenance" and "Initial Cleaning" to let the white ink in the tube. Do not select Load White, the white ink will not reach the print head. Do not use [ Load White ] instead of [ Initial Cleaning], or white ink will not be loaded enough and heavy misfiring may occur Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 20

To keep your GT-782 in good condition monthly check points With more use, you will have less trouble. Keep the printer in good condition. As you may know, the inside of the inkjet printer is not very clean. Wet ink mist may collect dust and thread around maintenance units and may damage the print quality. So routinely check the inside sometimes before turning ON and keep your GT-782 in good condition. Before you start: Select the menu in [ Maintenance ] e.g. [ Cap/Wiper Clean ] and [ Nozzle Cleaning ] and the maintenance devices will move to a better position for cleaning. Then turn OFF the printer and open the front cover. The checkpoints are the same as GT-541; wiper cleaners, print head caps, wipers, flush plates, the front/back of obstruction sensors, Platen sheets and T-shirt tray Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 21

Wiper Cleaner and Wiper Cleaner Cassette This mechanism is the same as GT-541. The most important point is to keep the wiper cleaner clean "enough to absorb ink", which holds waste ink inside of it to keep the surface of the wiper blade clean, so that print heads can fire properly. In other words, maybe head cleaning may not solve the misfiring and banding. Remember, wiper cleaner cleans the wiper blade, and the wiper blade cleans the print heads. If wiper blade is muddy with waste ink because wiper cleaner is muddy, then how can print heads keep clean? So check the wiper cleaners every time the warning is indicated on the control panel. Use plastic gloves in cap cleaning kit if it is too dirty. Refer to "Maintenance" page in printed manual or instruction manual for "step by step" instructions. Confirm the warning "Cap/Wipe Clean" and check if you should change the new Wiper Cleaner. The machine counts the head cleaning to indicate the timing. If you do not spoil your print, pay attention to Wiper Cleaner. Personal hint: put down the date on Wiper Cleaner then you will find how much time you can use and when to be replaced. Cap Cleaning Kit Be sure to place the wiper cleaner properly into the wiper cleaner cartridge (black body) and put it back into the printer. When the claws are off or wiper cleaner is not inserted to the back position, it will hinder the wiper and another misfiring might occur. If you have not exchanged the wiper cleaner for a long time, please be careful, because waste ink may overflow inside wiper cleaner cassette. Pull it out slowly and carefully not to spill everywhere around the printer Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 22

Caps / Wipers When you exchange wiper cleaner, check the caps and wiper blade as well, with the cap cleaning kit if they are dirty with ink or dust. Check the inside of GT-782 and confirm the conditions. Refer to the step-by-step indications in the printed manual before cleaning. Cap Cleaning Kit Mouth of Flush Plate When ink or dust is mounted high on the top edge of the flush plate, it may touch the surface of the print head during printing, this may cause misfiring and unexpected this lines around the printed area. Wipe off the dirt with a soft wet cloth with water. Front / Back of Obstruction Sensors Check the front/back surface of the obstruction sensor not to damage the printing material when loading. If they are dirty with ink and/or dust, wipe off the dirt with a soft wet cloth with water Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 23

Platen Sheet This cotton sheet is for holding a printed material flat. In addition, it catches the small mists of ink coming through the material as well. When the edges are loose and the surface wears out, peel it off and put a new one. If you feel is hard to peel off, warm the surface with hair dryer to loose the adhesive tape. T-shirt tray There must be much dust mounted at the back corners. Wipe off the whole surface sometimes. After closing the Front Cover At the end, check the inside of waste ink tanks, especially the one for white, or your floor might suffer from waste ink flood... How to clean Print Heads and the surroundings Use the same Nozzle Cleaning Kit for both CMYK and White Print Heads. Wash Liquid is a kind of soap to wash away the clogged ink. Maintenance Solution is special for White Print Heads and Tubes. Use it in Tube Cleaning and GT-782 setup (white ink does not run through the dry tubes so we need to load Maintenance Solution beforehand). Also Cap Cleaning Kit with Wiper Cleaner are the common parts with GT-541, and GT-782 (both Print Heads). Nozzle Cleaning Kit ("round-head white-stick" type) Select [ Menu ] [ Maintenance ] and [ Cap/Wiper Clean ] then turn off the printer. Open the Front Cover and see around the heads: nozzles might be spoiled with ink supplied by the print head cap Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 24

Wet the surface of the Print Head (nozzle plate) with Wash Liquid. Then rub softly the nozzle plate to loosen and remove ink and debris from the nozzle plate until the nozzle plate is clean. Do not push the Clean Applicator hard to the nozzle surface. Check the angle: Before: "Missing bands" occurs in Magenta and Black. After: You can see the nozzles. After cleaning, do Powerful Head Cleaning to remove Wash Liquid and air bubbles inside the nozzles. If the Error "WPC removed" occurs, it means "Wiper Cleaner Cassette is not properly set." Turn off the printer, open the Front Cover, and set the Wiper Cleaner Cassette properly. After that, even if you did not clean all of the Print Heads, please do the "4 color normal" head cleaning because the Print Heads were left in the air Brother Industries, Ltd. 26 Installation of Printer Driver Just like other office printers, GT-782 can print image data after you install GT-782 Printer Driver in your PC. But there are some unique advantages: GT-782 has two types of printer driver. A printer driver to connect directly with USB 2.0 cable: Brother GT-782 A printer driver to save print data as "arp" file. : Brother GT-782 FileOutput By saving in the print data (extension ".arp") you can check the Printer Driver settings, ink cost and the previews. If you print without checking with File Viewer, then your image might be printed badly. Save the print data with Brother GT-782 File Output and check the details by changing the background color (see the bottom), turn ON/OFF the checkbox "Show White Image" and "Show Highlight". To find the "255 white hole", change the background color to something very vivid (e.g. red, green) and then check "Show White Image". This is the easiest way. Check the white data by changing the background color. ink cost One click to send data to connecting GT(s). Detail Check! Oh, no! Ready to print! Check the print file before you print! Some bitmap data (mainly compressed jpg file) has lots of aliasing (staircasing) and jaggy dots Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 26

Color Settings for proper color reproduction Color management is very important for your easy and less-stress operation with the color printer. If you use Microsoft Office applications then you do not have to care much about the colors. But with professional image processing applications like Adobe and Corel, then you need to do proper color settings for each application software, and the versions of them. The information is described in your Instruction Manual and TIPs and TRICKs in Owner Login page in the US Website. For example the following capture is for Adobe Photoshop CS. After you decide to use GT-782 (and GT-541 too), go to the Color Settings menu and set Working Spaces RGB: srgb IEC The menu depends on the versions. IMPORTANT!!! Be sure to select srgb in RGB working space. Check those checkbox ON then you can control the color conditions in opening the file. OK! Color Settings in Adobe Photoshop CS Refer to Instruction Manual or Cookbook for further information Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 27

Firing Adjustment and White/Color Alignment If you want to print good, adjust your printer right. A print result is good when the printer works good, mainly the print heads fire ink at the right position on the print medium. To do this, the most important thing is Alignment. Check the standard/nozzle check pattern if the four print heads align properly. The second is platen height and levelness. The third and most controllable thing is the timing of firing, which you can adjust by following menu. Adjust the Firing and White/Color Alignment when you change Platen sheet, Print Head(s), or when you use the platen that is not originally-attached in bi-directional printing. If the timing of firing is not well adjusted, not only the printer prints a single line double, but also solid area would be printed with dirty grains, like a print result on "lower" platen with wider gap. Select [ Brother GT-782 Tools ] in your PC and select [ GT-782 Maintenance ]. Be sure to adjust firing first and then align the both print heads. Brother GT-782 Maintenance top menu: Though it takes many steps but they are for your print result Brother Industries, Ltd. All Rights Reserved. 28

Test Data and Useful Tools Test data for GT-782 are not in Printer Driver but in [Brother GT-782 Tools]of your PC. GT-ColorChart is upgraded. This data can be printed either by GT-541 or GT-782. If you want to check with white ink, or with different settings, open PDF image file in Useful Tools and print.
