I look for brands with long standing histories with proven track records of their products withstanding the test of time. I buy Intergrain Ultradeck to restain my outdoor deck each year. I haven't really tried anything else and am not wanting to. Intergrain is great. I look for the water based decking oils that I know work and are reasonably priced A clear stain to bring out the wood grain,maybe a Satin so as not to make it look plastic but still bring out the colour and grain. Wood filler (depending on the state of the wood and again the type of item) 3. A brush to brush of the saw dust 4. a sponge to lightly wet and wipe over the wood to remove remaining dust particles 5. The stain and/or varnish going to be used 6. Any extra items such as screws if some need replacing 7. paint brush or other applicator for the stain/varnish 8. things to clean up after (eg turps etc). I would be guided by the staff in the store as I don't know a lot about timber and timber products Assuming the question asks for the products I would use for wood care and restoration, the most common brand I go to is Wattyl; I prefer their garden furniture oil which I can spray or paint over existing timbre surfaces to protect and shine them.
