3 Catherine Breer The SIMPL MOMNTS "I want to capture the ordinary moments of life. For it is in these ordinary moments, for a fleeting second, that the extraordinary suddenly appears. I am particularly interested in the play of light on an object and the shadows and highlights that are created. I distill these images to graphic shapes which become the basis for my paintings. 4 Maggi Mason COLLAG OF MUSINGS As an artist, I draw my inspiration from poems, songs, myths, memory and travels around the world. Most of my work comes from my imagination, and sometimes from memories of people and landscapes which have touched me in some way. Oftentimes, the pieces that seem to interest the audience most are the ones I feel most passionate about myself. Making art is a wonderful way of sharing. I would like to suggest to fellow cancer survivors that having a passion, such as creating art, can help to ease and even overcome this difficult disease. 5 myintrospection PAINTD STORIS Art allows us to explore our emotions and feelings sometimes in ways that words cannot. ver since I was a child, art has helped me verbalize my inner voice. This remains the focus of my art work, and the reason behind the name myintrospection. To me, the emotions behind the artwork is more important than the aesthetics. My current pieces are made up of abstract backgrounds that set the mood, and representational foregrounds that tell the stories. These stories reflect viewpoints, feelings, and tiny snippets of life. 6 Catherine Breer TH LOV OF BOATS "I ve always loved painting boats. One day, long ago, someone said to me, Oh, you re the boat lady. After that I don t think I painted another boat for years. But recently I ve come back to an old favorite. Maybe it s something about what boats represent. Freedom, wanderlust, spontaneity, new places and new experiences. I was first drawn to the shapes created by the shadows, but over the past few years I ve also become interested in the play of reflections on the water. Ripples, movement, light, shadow. 7 Catherine Breer ACADIA "I have been coming to Acadia every summer since my children were small. We have always camped at the same campground on Somes Sound. We have hiked the Anvil Trail, eaten popovers at the Jordan House, listened to the waves crash at Thunder Hole, swum at Long Pond, and taken in the view from Otter Cliff. The natural beauty and diversity of Acadia never ceases to amaze me, and has always been an inspiration to me as an artist.
