5 SECTION 2. GETTING READY TO SEW Extension Table The extension table povides added sewing suface and can be easily emoved fo fee am sewing. Detaching the table: Pull the table away fom the machine. Attaching the table: Push the extension table until it snaps into the machine. Advantages and uses of fee am sewing: Avoid fabic bunching aound the needle when batacking to einfoce pockets, plackets and waistlines. 6 Connecting the Machine to the Powe Supply y w Befoe connecting the powe cod, make sue the voltage and feuency shown on the machine confom to you electical powe. 1. Tun off the powe switch. 2. Inset the machine plug into the machine socket. 3. Inset the powe supply plug into the outlet. 4. Tun on the powe switch to tun on the powe and sewing light. e t Powe switch w Outlet e Machine socket Machine plug t Foot contol y Powe supply plug Foot Contol Sewing speed can be vaied by the foot contol. The hade you pess on the contol, the faste the machine uns. Caution: Do not place anything on the foot contool, othewise the machine will stat advetently. WARNING: While in opeation, always keep you eyes on the sewing aea, and do not touch any moving pats such as the thad take-up leve, handwheel o needle. Always tun off the powe switch and unplug fom the powe supply: when leaving the machine unattended. when attaching o emoving pats. when cleaning the machine. Do not place anything on the foot contol, othewise the machine will un intemittently. 4

7 Pesse Foot Lifte The pesse foot lifte aises and lowes you pesse foot. You can aise it about 0.6 cm (1/4 ) highe than the nomal up position fo easy emoval of the pesse foot o to help you to place heavy fabic unde the foot. w Nomal up position w Highest position To Attach and Remove the Pesse Foot CAUTION: Tun off the powe switch when changing a pesse foot. w To emove Tun the handwheel towad you to aise the needle to its highest position. Raise the pesse foot. Pess the leve on the back of the foot holde. The pesse foot will dop off. To attach Place the pesse foot so the pin on the foot lies just unde the goove of the foot holde. Lowe the foot holde to lock the foot in place. Pin w Goove 5

8 Changing Needle CAUTION: Tun off the powe switch when changing a needle. Raise the needle by tuning the handwheel towad you and lowe the pesse foot. Loosen the needle clamp scew by tuning it counteclockwise. Remove the needle fom the clamp. Inset the new needle into the clamp with the flat side away fom you. When inseting the needle into the clamp, push it up as fa as it will go and tighten the clamp scew fimly with the scewdive. * Check you needles feuently fo babed o blunted points. Snags and uns in knits, fine silks and silk-like fabics ae pemanent and ae almost always caused by a damaged needle. To check the needle Place the flat side of the needle on something flat (needle plate, glass etc.). The cleaance between the needle and flat suface should be consistent. Neve use a bent o blunt needle. 9 Setting Spool Pins The spool pins ae used fo holding the spool of thead in ode to feed thead to the machine. To use, pull up the spool pin. Push down fo stoage. Removing o Inseting the Bobbin Case Open the hook cove. Hook cove Raise the needle by tuning the handwheel towad you. Take out the bobbin case by holding the latch. w Latch w e When inseting the bobbin case, place the hon into the ecess of the hook ace. e Hon 7

10 z Winding the Bobbin x w c 1 Pull the handwheel out. 2 Daw the thead fom spool. Guide the thead aound the bobbin winde thead guide. 3 Inset the thead though the hole in the bobbin fom the inside to the outside. Align the notch of bobbin to the bobbin winde spindle ib w. Put the bobbin on the bobbin winde spindle. 4 Push it to the ight. b v m n 5 With the fee end of the thead held in you hand, depess the foot contol. Stop the machine when it has made a few tuns, and cut the thead close to the hole in the bobbin. 6 Depess the foot contol again. When the bobbin is fully wound, stop the machine. Retun the bobbin winde spindle to its oiginal position by moving the spindle to the left, and cut the thead. 7 Push the handwheel to the left. (oiginal position). Note: Retun the bobbin winde spindle when the machine stops. z Theading Bobbin Case 1 Place the bobbin into the bobbin case. Make sue the thead unwinds in the diection of aow. x 2 Pull the thead into the bobbin case slot. c 3 Daw the thead unde the tension sping and into the delivey eye. * Leave about 10 cm (4 ) of fee thead. 8

11 c z Theading the Machine Raise the take-up leve to its highest position by tuning the handwheel towad you. Raise the pesse foot. Place a spool on the spool pin as shown, with thead coming fom back of the spool. v b n x 1 Daw the thead into thead guide using both hands. z 2 While holding the thead nea spool, daw thead down into the tension aea and then aound the check sping holde. x 3 Fimly daw the thead up and though the take up leve fom ight to left. c 4 Then daw the thead down and slip it into the lowe thead guide. 5 Daw the thead down and slip it into needle ba thead guide on the left. b v 6 Thead the needle eye fom font to back. n 9 Note : You may want to cut the end of thead with shap scissos fo easie needle theading.

12 Dawing Up Bobbin Thead z 1 Raise the pesse foot and hold the needle thead lightly with you left hand. x 2 Tun the handwheel slowly towad you with you ight hand until the needle goes down and continue tuning the handwheel until the take up leve is at its highest position. Lightly daw up the needle thead foming a loop of the bobbin thead. c 3 Pull 15 cm (6 ) of both theads back and unde the pesse foot. 10

13 Balancing Needle Thead Tension z e y t 1 Coect tension The thead tension is adjusted depending on the sewing mateials, layes of fabic and sewing method. * The ideal staight stitch has theads looked w between two layes of fabic, as illustated (magnifies to show detail). * Fo an ideal zigzag stitch, the bobbin thead does not show on the ight side (top side) of the fabic, and the needle thead shows slightly on the wong side (bottomside) of the fabic. Needle thead (Top thead) w Bobbin thead (Bottom thead) e Right side (Top side) of fabic Wong side (Bottom side) of fabic t Thead tension dial y Setting mak x 2 Needle thead tension is too tight The bobbin thead (bottom thead) will appea on the ight side (top side) of the fabic...loosen the needle thead tension by moving the dial to a lowe numbe. c 3 Needle thead tension is too loose The needle thead (top thead) will appea on the wong side (bottom side) of the fabic...tighten the needle thead tension by moving the dial to a highe numbe. 11

14 Patten Selecto Dial Raise the needle and pesse foot. Tun the patten selecto dial to select the lette at the setting mak. Setting mak Note: Do not tun the patten selecto dial while the needle is in the mateial. 12

15 Stitch Length Dial Tun the stitch length dial to set the desied stitch length at the setting mak. The highe the numbe, the longe the stitch length Setting mak " " is the ecommended setting fo buttonhole stitching. Adjust the dial in the ange when you sew the zigzag stitch. S.S. Set the dial at "S.S." to sew the stetch stitch patten. If the stetch stitch patten is not even, tun the stitch length dial in towad " " to compess it, o "+" to expand it. 13

16 Revese Stitch Button As long as you keep the evese stitch button depessed, the machine sews backwads. Daning Plate To set the daning plate: Position the daning plate with the 3 pins on the bottom. Fit the daning plate pins into the needle plate holes. The feed dogs will show though the daning plate holes. 14

BASIC SEWING Staight Stitch Sewing Patten selecto: A o B w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 2 6 Stitch length: Raise the pesse foot and position the fabic with its edge lining up with a seam guide line on the needle plate. Lowe the needle into the fabic. Lowe the pesse foot and smooth the theads towad the back. Depess the foot contol. Gently guide the fabic along the guide line letting the fabic feed by itself. Fo fastening the end of seams, pess the evese stitch button and sew seveal evese stitches. Raise the pesse foot and emove the fabic, dawing the theads to the back. Daw the theads up and into the thead cutte. The theads ae cut the pope length fo stating the next seam. To change the diection Stop the machine and tun the balance wheel towad you to bing the needle down into the fabic. Raise the pesse foot. Pivot the fabic aound the needle to change sewing diection as desied. Lowe the pesse foot and continue sewing. 15

18 e Seam Guide Line The numbes on the needle plate indicate the distance between the cente needle position and the line. The numbes in font ae centimetes. The numbes in back ae factions of an inch. Stop stitching and lowe the needle by tuning the handwheel counteclockwise. 2. Raise the pesse foot and tun the fabic to line the edge with the 5/8 (1.6 cm) seam guide. 3. Lowe the pesse foot and begin stitching in the new diection. Line up the fabic edge facing you with the coneing guide shown. 16

19 w e Zigzag Stitching Patten selecto: C w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 2 5 Stitch length: Simple zigzag stitching is widely used fo ovecasting, sewing on buttons, etc. 17

20 w e Ticot Stitch Patten selecto: D w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 1 4 Stitch length: Place the fabic unde the pesse foot so that the edge is just inside the ight edge of the pesse foot. Guide the wok so the ight hand stitches fall off the edge of the fabic. Note : Be caeful not to cut the stitches. w e Oveedge Stitching Patten selecto: G w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 1 4 Stitch length: S.S. This Oveedge stitch is ideal fo sewing swimwea and stetch velou because it povides the geatest amount of elasticity and stength. Oveedge stitch will be done most successfully when the ight side stitches of zigzag fall slightly off the edge of the fabic. Place you fabic to allow a 1.6 cm (5/8 ) seam. Tim the seam allowance afte sewing. Note : Be caeful not to cut the stitches. 18

21 w e Tiple Stitch Patten selecto: A o B w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 2 6 Stitch length: S.S. The stitch is sewn with two stitches fowad and one stitch backwad foming a seam that does not ip easiiy. Gaments should be basted fo fitting befoe seaming. 19

22 w e Sewing Buttons t Patten selecto: w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 1 3 Stitch length: Any t Daning plate Use the daning plate fo button sewing. (see page 14.) Set the Patten Selecto at B (left needle position). Mak the button placements on the fabic. Position the daning plate onto the needle plate. Place fabic unde the foot. Place the button unde the foot aligning the left hole with the needle point. Lowe the foot. Sew a few stitches to lock the theads. Place a staight pin on top of the button in between the holes. (See illustation) When sewing ove the button and staight pin, a shank will be ceated. Set the Patten Selecto at C. Select the zigzag width to match the holes in the button. Tun the balance wheel to confim coect width. Sew seveal stitches to secue the button to the fabic. Set the Patten Selecto at B. Sew seveal stitches to lock the theads. Cut the theads 20 cm (8 ) leaving a thead tail. Bing the needle thead down though the button hole and wind it aound the thead shank. Daw the thead to the wong side and knot. 20

23 w e Buttonhole Patten selecto: w Pesse foot: Buttonhole foot e Thead tension: 1 5 Stitch length: To adjust buttonhole stitch density: Set the stitch length dial between 0.5 and 1.0 to adjust the buttonhole stitch density. z x 1 Caefully mak buttonhole length on fabic. Place the fabic unde the foot with the buttonhole making unning towad you. 2 Slide both theads to the left. Line up the foot with the top mak on the fabic. Lowe the needle into the gament whee the buttonhole is to stat, and lowe the foot. 3 Set the patten selecto dial at 1. Sew fowad until you each the font making of you buttonhole. Stop sewing at a left stitch. c v b n w m 4 4 Set the patten selecto dial at 2. Sew 5 stitches. Stop sewing at a ight stitch. 5 Set the patten selecto dial at 3. Sew until you each the back making w of the buttonhole. Stop sewing at a ight stitch. 6 Set the patten selecto dial at. Sew a few batacks and aise the needle fom the fabic. Set the stitch length dial to 0 and the patten selecto dial at staight sewing. Sew a few locking stitches Remove the fabic fom the machine and cut the sewing thead. Inset a pin inside the batack. Then cut the opening with a seam ippe. Take cae not to cut the stitches.

24 w e Blind Hem Stitch Patten selecto: E o F w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 2 4 Stitch length: 1 3 z [A] w [B] w z On heavyweight fabics that avel, the aw edge should be ovecast fist. Then fold the hem, as illustated, leaving 1/4 (0.7 cm) of the hem edge showing. Wong side of the fabic w 1/4 (0.7 cm) x x Position the fabic, so that the needle at its leftmost position just pieces the edge of the fold. c c Afte hemming is completed, pess togethe both sides of the finished hem. The top side of the fabic should show only the blind stitches. 22

25 w e SECTION 4. DECORATIVE STITCHES Shell Tuck Patten selecto: G w Pesse foot: Buttonhole foot e Thead tension: 6 8 Stitch length: 2 3 Place the folded edge along the slot of foot. The needle should fall off the edge of the fabic on the ight foming a tuck. w e Stetch Stitch Pattens Patten selecto: A G w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 1 4 Stitch length: S.S. If fowad and evese feeds become unbalanced due to the type of fabic, estoe the balance by tuning the stitch length dial as follows: If pattens ae compessed, tun the dial towad +. If pattens ae dawn out, tun the dial towad. (See Page 27.) 23

26 w e Smocking Patten selecto: D w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 1 4 Stitch length: S.S. With the stitch length at 4, sew staight stitching lines 1 cm (3/8 ) apat, acoss the aea to be smocked. Knot the theads along one edge. Pull the bobbin theads and distibute the gathes evenly. Secue the theads at the othe end. Sew the decoative stitch between the gatheing stitches. Pull out the gatheing stitches. Note: Loosen the needle thead tension to make gatheing easie. 1 cm (3/8 ) w e Appliue Patten selecto: C w Pesse foot: Zigzag foot e Thead tension: 1 4 Stitch length: Baste (o fuse with ion-on fabic joine) appliue pieces on the fabic. Stitch aound the appliue making sue the needle falls along the oute edge of the appliue. When sewing cones, lowe the needle down into the fabic. Raise the pesse foot and pivot the fabic to the ight o left. 24

27 w SECTION 5. CARE OF YOUR MACHINE Dismantling and Assembling Shuttle Race Unit Note :Tun off the powe switch and/o unplug the machine. To dismantle shuttle ace unit: Raise the needle to its highest position and open the hook cove. Open the hinged latch of bobbin case and take it out of the machine. Open the hook ace ing holdes and emove the shuttle ace ing. Remove the hook. * Clean the hook ace with a bush and a soft dy cloth. t e Bobbin case w Shuttle ace ing holde e Shuttle ace ing Shtuule t Shuttle ace u y To assemble shuttle ace unit: Shuttle the hook by the cente pin and fit it caefully back into the shuttle ace, foming a pefect cicle with the shuttle dive. Attach the shuttle ace ing making sue the bottom pin fits into the notch. Lock the shuttle ace ing by tuning the holdes back into position. Inset the bobbin case. y Pin u Notch Cleaning the Feed Dog WARNING: Tun off the powe switch and/o unplug the machine befoe cleaning the feed dog. Remove the needle and the pesse foot. Remove the needle plate set scew and emove the needle plate. With a bush, clean out dust and lint clogging the feed dog teeth. Reset the needle plate. 25

28 Sewing Light The sewing light is located behind the face plate. To change the bulb, take the face plate off the sewing machine by emoving the set scew. Unplug the powe supply befoe changing the bulb. To emove, tun the bulb to the left. To attach, tun the bulb to the ight. WARNING: The bulb could be HOT. Potect you finges when handle it. 26

29 Toubleshooting Condition The needle thead beaks. Cause 1. The needle thead is not theaded popely. 2. The needle thead tension is too tight. 3. The needle is bent o blunt. 4. The needle is incoectly inseted. 5. The fabic is not being dawn to the back when sewing is finished. 6. The thead is eithe too heavy o too fine fo the needle.
