Technicolor Braid materials 22 (2½"-wide) strips for braid rows 1¼ yards black print for sashing and inner border 7 8 yard dark green print for outer border ½ yard green print for binding Fons & Porter Hexagon Ruler or template material 3½ yards backing fabric Twin-size quilt batting Cutting If you are not using the Fons & Porter Hexagon Ruler, make a template from the pattern on page 3. Measurements include ¼" seam allowances. Border strips are exact length needed. You may want to make them longer to allow for piecing variations. From 2½"-wide strips, cut a total of: 190 half-hexagons. NOTE: Cut half-hexagons with the Fons & Porter Hexagon Ruler using solid black and yellow cutting lines for a 2" finished half-hexagon. From black print, cut: 4 (3"-wide) lengthwise strips. From strips, cut 2 (3" 42") side inner borders and 2 (3" 41½") top and bottom inner borders. 4 (2"-wide) lengthwise strips. From strips, cut 4 (2" 42") sashing strips. From dark green print, cut: 5 (4½"-wide) strips. Piece strips to make 2 (4½" 47") side outer borders and 2 (4½" 49½") top and bottom outer borders. From green print, cut: 6 (2¼"-wide) strips for binding. Braid Assembly 1. Trim top and bottom of pieced row as shown to complete 1 Braid Row (42" long). 3. Make 5 Braid rows. Quilt Assembly 1. Lay out Braid rows and black print sashing strips as shown in Quilt Top Assembly Diagram on page 3. Join to complete quilt center. 2. Add black print side inner borders to quilt center. 3 Finishing 1. Divide backing into 2 (1¾-yard) lengths. Cut 1 piece in half lengthwise to make 2 narrow panels. Join 1 narrow panel to wider panel. Remaining panel is extra and can be used to make a hanging sleeve. 2. Layer backing, batting, and quilt top; baste. Quilt as desired. Once the half-hexagons are cut, you can keep stitching braids forever. Make them as long as you want.

Join 2 half-hexagons as shown in Photo A. You are starting at the top of braid row. 2. Continue adding half-hexagons as shown (Photos B and C).

Once the half-hexagons are cut, you can keep stitching braids forever. Make them as long as you want. There is very little wasted fabric compared to the usual 45 braid. A B 1.
