2 Materials Debbie Bliss Rialto DK in shades and amounts: A O33 Charcoal 2x 50g B 078 Oyster 2x 50g C 065 Pale pink 2x 50g D 004 Grey 2x 50g E 066 Vintage pink 2x 50g 4.0mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain correct gauge/tension) 3.5mm crochet hook Needle for fastening off loose ends 10x small buttons for cushion fastening. Tension/Gauge 24 stitches x 24 rows to 10 cm square. Row/height tension is not critical as each piece can simply be worked until the required length from foundation chain is reached. If using this pattern to make a 45cm square pad the correct stitch tension will be important. Notes This cushion is designed to fit a 45cm square cushion pad. If you want to make the cushion for a larger or smaller pad you will need to adjust the number of stitches and rows accordingly. The cushion is made from two identical pieces for front and back. No seam allowance is included in the front and back pieces because the seam is worked on the outside of the cushion with what will become the wrong sides when the cushion is complete facing each other. Instructions (make 2 identical pieces, one for front, one for back) The cushion I made uses a colour block pattern. Instructions to achieve the same size blocks of colour are given below: Work 20 rows D Work 18 rows C Work 19 rows A Work 18 rows E Work 21 rows B Work 12 rows D 2

3 Please note that should you wish to work a different colour pattern you may need to adjust the amounts of yarn required in each colour. Using the larger of your two hook sizes and the colour you choose to start with, make a foundation chain of 108. Work in crochet moss stitch as follows: Row 1: Work 1 DC into second chain from hook. *Chain 1, skip next chain, work 1 DC into next chain. Repeat from * to last 2 stitches. Work 1 DC into each of last 2 stitches. Chain 1 and turn. Row 2: Work 1 DC into first DC. Work 1 DC into first chain space. *Chain 1, skip next DC, 1 DC into next chain space. Repeat from * to end of row, ending with 1 DC into last DC. Chain 1 and turn. Row 3: Work 1 DC into first DC. *Chain 1, skip next chain, work 1 DC into next chain. Repeat from * to last 2 stitches. Work 1 DC into each of last 2 stitches. Chain 1 and turn. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 45cm from foundation chain (or length required for your cushion pad). Making up Weave in all loose ends. NOTE: Please read ahead to end of pattern before beginning making up. 3

4 For each of side of the cushion cover, work a row of double crochet around the border of the entire piece: When working across the bottom (foundation chain) edge of the piece you will need to work into the bottom loop of your original foundation chain ensuring that you place stitches in the loops which form the bottom of the DCs of the first row, and in the loops which sit below where you worked 1 chain in the first row. When working across the top edge of the piece, you will need to work stitches into both the DCs from that row AND the 1 chains or chain spaces in that row. When working across the sides of the piece, aim to work 1 DC into the side of each row. Holding the two pieces of the cushion with what will become the wrong sides facing each other, and working in to the rounds of double crochet that you have just worked around all four sides of both pieces, stitch the pieces together by working 1DC into each stitch of both pieces. Use the diagram below as a guide and note that edge 2 is left open and will hold the fastening. 4 Top of piece Start at this corner 3 1 Bottom of piece 2 Opening & fastening will be placed along this edge Using the above diagram as a guide, start at one corner as indicated. Once you have stitched the two pieces together along edge 1 and have turned the corner to edge 2, stop and using 4

5 pins or stitch markers to make positions for 10 buttons on one of your two pieces, spacing them evenly. You can now continue to work your round of DC along edge 2 BUT DO NOT work into both pieces. As you work along edge 2, when you reach the button positions you have marked, work 1DC, 3 chain, 1DC into next DC. The 3 chain will form a loop to fasten the buttons. When you reach the end of side 2 and turn the corner to side 3 you will need to begin to stitch both pieces together again as you did along side 1. Continue to do this until you have worked around the entire cushion cover leaving only side 2 open. Fasten off. Stitch on buttons opposite the button loops you have worked on side 2, insert your cushion and admire your handiwork! 5
