2 How to check your gauge: With size US 6 (4 mm), needles, CO 22 sts. Work in garter stitch until you have a square; measure how many sts fit across 4 then divide by 4; this is your stitches per inch. If you have more than 5½ sts per inch, your knitting is too tight; unravel and try another swatch on a bigger needle. If you have fewer than 5½ sts per inch, your knitting is too loose, try again with a smaller needle. If you want to live dangerously, you can skip checking your gauge your wrap will still fit. Crescent Wrap Stripe Pattern A crescent wrap in garter stitch stripes worked from the center out in matching halves. Carry the unused color along the side of your work until it is no longer needed. If you weave or knit in your ends as you go, it will cut down on the amount of finishing required. The Details THE MEASUREMENTS 85 long, 10 wide in center, 2¾ wide at each end With A, knit 2 rows (1 ridge). With B, knit 2 rows (1 ridge). SUPPLIES Yarn: Superfine 400 multi pack braid shown in color Smokey 50 g /200 yards each of 5 colors: A 3013 crow B 3077 pewter C 3075 smoke D 3003 granite E 3016 natural With C, knit 2 rows (1 ridge). With B, knit 2 rows (1 ridge). Needles: Knitting needles sized to get gauge. With E, knit 2 rows (1 ridge). With D, knit 2 rows (1 ridge). Other stuff: US G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook Waste yarn With C, knit 2 rows (1 ridge). With D, knit 2 rows (1 ridge). GAUGE 5½ sts and 10½ rows = 1 in garter stitch. 3 How to Knit It LEFT SIDE (as worn) With the crochet hook and waste yarn, use the crochet chain provisional cast-on (see Stitches and Abbreviations) to CO 55 sts with A; this counts as the first row of the stripe pattern. Work even in stripe pattern for 31 more rows, beginning and ending with a WS row. Decrease row (RS): Continuing established stripe pattern, knit to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2 1 st decreased at lower edge (end of RS rows). Continuing in pattern, work 7 rows even. Continuing in pattern, rep the last 8 rows 39 more times 15 sts rem. Work even to end of stripe pattern 448 rows completed. BO all sts. RIGHT SIDE (as worn) Carefully remove provisional CO from left side, and place 55 exposed sts on needle. Join A with RS facing. Work even in stripe pattern for 32 rows, ending with a WS row. Decrease row (RS): Continuing established stripe pattern, k2, ssk, knit to end 1 st decreased at lower edge (beg of RS rows). Continuing in pattern, work 7 rows even. Continuing in pattern, rep the last 8 rows 39 more times 15 sts rem. Work even to end of stripe pattern 448 rows completed. BO all sts. FINISHING Weave in ends if you have not already done so. 4 Stitches and Abbreviations Garter stitch Knit on both RS and WS rows Crochet Chain Provisional Cast-on With waste yarn, place a slipknot on the crochet hook. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook (yarn over) and draw it through the loop on the hook to form the first chain. Rep this step until there are as many chains as needed for the cast-on, plus 8 to 10 extra. Cut the waste yarn and draw the end loosely through the loop on the hook; this is the end from which you will unzip the provisional cast-on later. Starting 3 or 4 chains from the end, insert the knitting needle tip into the back bump of a chain st, wrap the main yarn around the needle, then pull up a loop onto the needle to pick up 1 cast-on st.
